    Bible Teaching of the Day

Concentrate on the Cross – Part 11

The Bible gives the good news that Jesus paid the price for our sin (Ephesians 1:7), yet in many ways we still suffer the consequences of our sins. For example, a drug dealer may become a Christian in prison, but that doesn’t mean he will be released from prison the next day—he will still experience the consequences of his past sin. A born-again Christian who falls into adultery may lose his family, his career, etc.—even after he confesses and forsakes his sin, the consequences of his sin remain. Coming to Christ does not erase the temporal effects of sin; rather, our salvation guarantees that we will not face the eternal consequences of sin.

The consequence of sin is death (Romans 6:23a). As sinners, we deserve to be eternally separated from God and His holiness. On the cross Christ paid the penalty of our sin with His own blood. He who knew no sin was made to be sin on our behalf (2 Corinthians 5:21). On the basis of Christ’s perfect sacrifice, those who believe are no longer under God’s condemnation (Romans 8:1).

It’s important to understand that, when the believer in Christ experiences consequences for sin, it is not because he is under God’s condemnation (Romans 8:1), His wrath (1 Thessalonians 5:9), or His retribution (2 Thessalonians 1:8). Believers are under God’s grace (Romans 6:15). Jesus took the wrath of God upon Himself (Isaiah 53:10). Sin’s consequences still experienced by believers could be classified in one of these ways:

Universal consequences. Some of sin’s consequences are experienced perpetually by every human being on earth, because we are all children of Adam. We all have weeds growing in our gardens, we all face natural disasters, we all get sick and grow old, and we all eventually die physically (Romans 5:12). As sinners living in a sinful world, there’s no avoiding these consequences of original sin.

Natural consequences. We live in a world of cause and effect, where the law of sowing and reaping is in full effect. Some of sin’s consequences are built-in and practically guaranteed, no matter if the sinner is saved or unsaved. The Bible warns that sexual immorality is a sin committed against one’s own body (1 Corinthians 6:18). “Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned?” (Proverbs 6:27). If you steal something, you should expect to get caught and face the natural consequences that follow the sin of theft. If you resist arrest when you get caught, you pile on more consequences. Sowing and reaping.

Instructional consequences. Very likely, God allows some of sin’s consequences to remain in our lives to teach us the heinous nature of sin and to remind us to depend upon God’s grace. Sin is a serious enough problem for God to have sent His Son into the world to die. We dare not take sin lightly. In the face of sin’s consequences, we humble ourselves and seek God’s kingdom and righteousness all the more (see Matthew 6:33). When Ananias and Sapphira were disciplined for their sin, it was instructive for the church: “Great fear seized the whole church and all who heard about these events” (Acts 5:11). See also 1 Corinthians 5:5 and 1 Timothy 1:20.

Disciplinary consequences. Some of sin’s consequences are the result of God’s treating us as a father should his children. There’s a difference between a penalty for sin and discipline for sin. As God’s children, we experience discipline designed to guide us back to the right path. “My son, do not make light of the Lord’s discipline, and do not lose heart when he rebukes you, because the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and he chastens everyone he accepts as his son” (Hebrews 12:5–6; cf. Proverbs 3:11–12). Note how many of God’s children undergo discipline: “everyone” (Hebrews 12:8). We are all wayward at times. God’s purpose in allowing us to experience disciplinary consequences of sin, true to His nature, is perfect: “God disciplines us for our good, in order that we may share in his holiness” (Hebrews 12:10).

The church of Corinth provides an example of Christians facing the disciplinary consequences of their sin: in partaking of the Lord’s Table in an unworthy manner, they brought God’s displeasure: “That is why many among you are weak and sick, and a number of you have fallen asleep” (1 Corinthians 11:30). We see similar disciplinary action taken in 2 Samuel 12. Even after David confessed his sin and was forgiven, God allowed certain consequences to befall David and his household (verses 11–14).

God allows us to experience some of the temporal consequences of sin to show His love for us. If God never disciplined His straying children, He would not be a good Father. If we were never disciplined or never suffered the consequences for our wrong action, we would never learn right from wrong. We tend to learn from our mistakes more readily than we learn from our successes.

Praise the Lord for His goodness. He allows us to experience the temporal consequences of sin (for our own good). But He has saved us from the eternal consequences of sin. Jesus paid the penalty for our sins so we will never experience the second death, which is the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14). Believers in Christ are promised that the curse and consequences of sin will be completely removed one day, and “nothing will hurt or destroy in all my holy mountain” (Isaiah 11:9, NLT).

Spreuke 3:11–12).

    Today’s Devotional

This one verse I see quoted a lot these days. I’ve seen it on Facebook, Instagram, and profiles. I’ve seen it being quoted in church, at Gospel Raleigh’s and just about everywhere else Christians gather. I’ve seen it on Bible bags, notebooks, posters and even scratched out on the doors of public toilets. The verse taken from Jeremiah 29:11reads, “For I know the purposes which I am purposing for you, says Jehovah; purposes of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”

But this verse is not a “free for all”, it is not a “name it and claim it” verse, it is not a promise to every person out there.  No, this verse applies to the children of Israel and can be applied to those, believing in the God of Israel.

However, Jeremiah 29:11 cannot and should not be read as a stand alone verse. We should also take cognizance of verses 12 and 13. It reads, “Then you shall call on Me, and you shall go and pray to Me, and I will listen to you. And you shall seek Me and find Me, when you search for Me with all your heart.”

How dare we call upon or stand upon God’s promises, claim His good will, receive every blessing when we are not prepared to call upon Him, pray to Him, seek Him or search for Him with all our heart?

With all our heart? Yes, with all that is inside of us, all our mind, all our soul, and all of our will?

God’s plan or God’s purpose will only come to fruition when we seek the Lord as instructed in Zephaniah 2:3, Matthew 6:33 and Isaiah 55:6-7 which reads, “Seek Jehovah while He may be found; call on Him while He is near. Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; and let him return to Jehovah, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon.”

Let us remain in Him so He may remain in us. Let us be grafted into vine so we may bear much fruit. (See John 15:4-8) Let us continually seek God’s face, seek His Holy Presence and then we may receive the Lord’s blessing as contained in Jeremiah 29:11.

IMMIMENT WAR? Khameini Orders Iran’s Military on High Alert

Israel is preparing for a potential large-scale missile attack from Iran, as security coordination with the US continues to grow, says Israeli official.

Israel is gearing up for the possibility of a massive Iranian ballistic missile attack targeting the Jewish State, a senior Israeli official told Channel 14 on Sunday evening.

“We are preparing for the option that Iran will make a mistake and attack us with hundreds of missiles,” the official told the outlet, stressing that Jerusalem and Washington are partnering to mitigate the threat to Israeli civilians.

“The security cooperation between Israel and the US has been stepped up, and it’s the best it’s ever been,” the official continued.

“The additional [THAAD ballistic missile air defense] battery that was received yesterday is part of that effort.”

Referring to US President Donald Trump’s repeated attempts to engage in direct talks with Iran regarding its nuclear program – overtures which have been repeatedly shot down by Tehran – the official said that Washington’s patience is running out.

Iran’s Supreme Leader recently placed the country’s security forces on their highest level of alert, suggesting that Tehran believes an attack on its nuclear facilities is imminent.

In April 2024, Iran launched hundreds of explosive drones and missiles at the Jewish State.

The attack resulted in minor damage to the Nevatim Air Force base in the southern Negev Desert.

A seven-year-old Bedouin girl was injured by shrapnel during the attack, suffering a serious head wound and requiring hospitalization for an extended period.

Six months later, in October 2024, Iran once again attacked Israel with hundreds of ballistic missiles.

The attack is believed to be the largest ballistic missile barrage in military history.

The bombing sent virtually all residents of Israel into bomb shelters.

That attack resulted in the death of one person – a Gazan man who was living in the Palestinian Authority-controlled city of Jericho.

A large piece of falling shrapnel killed the man as he walked in the street.

Signs of the Times in the News

    Australia: Heading for jihadist conflict?

The happy-go-lucky country of Australia, located at the far end of the globe, away from the geopolitical turmoil in Europe and the Middle East, is a peaceful and pleasant place to live – or should be.

Most immigrants seem to have assimilated comfortably, enjoying generous benefits such as state-sponsored medical care, welfare packages, high wages, vast open spaces, and low crime.

Life is good in Australia, with thousands of applicants from all over the world keenly seeking a better life in the sun. Although with a relatively small population of some 25 million, four of its cities are currently rated among the world’s top 20 most livable.

However, an undercurrent of extremist Islam exists within Australia’s Middle Eastern community.

This development exploded into the headlines when, in January 2025, a serious firebomb attack on a Jewish childcare facility in Sydney took place, not surprisingly causing horror among the peaceful community.

When innocent children are threatened with death, it can be said that the jihadist-Islamist crisis in the country has finally arrived.

Antisemitic acts had, in fact, become common in Australia before January, with more than 2,000 incidents in 2024 alone. They included 65 physical assaults and 600 cases of verbal abuse.

According to Mike Burgess, the Australian Security Intelligence Organisation’s director-general for security, “Jewish Australians are increasingly conflated with the state of Israel, leading to an increase in antisemitic incidents.”

“The Israel-Gaza conflict has exacerbated antisemitic incidents in Australia,” Burgess also said, thereby “giving extremists an excuse to escalate threats and violence… communal violence is expected to rise over the next five years, further straining social cohesion.”

Egypt Breaks The 1979 Peace Treaty With Israel, What’s Next?

Israel has begin to sound the alarm over Egyptian violations of the Camp David Peace Treaty signed between Israel and Egypt by increasing the amount of tanks and troops in the Sinai desert. These troops are conveniently placed near to the Gaza Strip.

As the IDF continues to take more land in the Gaza Strip – expelling the so called “civilians” from each area, Israel’s Defense Minister Yisrael Katz issued what is being perceived as a final warning to Hamas and the overwhelming population in Gaza that support it.

    Introduction to the BibleBible Summary

    Summary of the Book of
    Leviticus
    Author:
Moses was the author of the Book of Leviticus. Full article: Who wrote the book
of Leviticus? Who was the author of Leviticus?
Date of Writing: The Book of Leviticus was written between 1440 and 1400 B.C.
Purpose of Writing: Because the Israelite’s had been held captive in Egypt for 400 years,
the concept of God had been distorted by the polytheistic, pagan Egyptians. The
purpose of Leviticus is to provide instruction and laws to guide a sinful, yet redeemed
people in their relationship with a holy God. There is an emphasis in Leviticus on the
need for personal holiness in response to a holy God. Sin must be atoned for through
the offering of proper sacrifices (chapters 8-10). Other topics covered in the book are
diets (clean and unclean foods), childbirth, and diseases which are carefully regulated
(chapters 11-15). Chapter 16 describes the Day of Atonement when an annual sacrifice is made for the cumulative sin of the people. Furthermore, the people of God are to be
circumspect in their personal, moral, and social living, in contrast to the then-current
practices of the heathen roundabout them (chapters 17-22).
    Key Verses:
Leviticus 1:4, “He is to lay his hand on the head of the burnt offering, and it will be
accepted on his behalf to make atonement for him.”
Leviticus 17:11, “For the life of a creature is in the blood, and I have given it to you to
make atonement for yourselves on the altar; it is the blood that makes atonement for
    one’s life.”
Leviticus 19:18, “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD.”
Brief Summary: Chapters 1–7 outline the offerings required of both the laity and the
priesthood. Chapters 8–10 describe the consecration of Aaron and his sons to the
priesthood. Chapters 11–16 are the prescriptions for various types of uncleanness. The
final 10 chapters are God’s guidelines to His people for practical holiness. Various feasts were instituted in the people’s worship of God, convened and practiced according to God’s laws. Blessings or curses would accompany either the keeping or neglect of God’s commandments (chapter 26). Vows to the Lord are covered in chapter 27.
The primary theme of Leviticus is holiness. God’s demand for holiness in His people is
based on His own holy nature. A corresponding theme is that of atonement. Holiness
must be maintained before God, and holiness can only be attained through a proper
    atonement.
Foreshadowings: Much of the ritualistic practices of worship picture in many ways the
person and work of our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ. Hebrews 10 tells us that the Mosaic Law is “only a shadow of the good things that are coming” by which is meant that the daily sacrifices offered by the priests for the sin of the people were a representation of the ultimate Sacrifice—Jesus Christ, whose sacrifice would be once for all time for those who would believe in Him. The holiness imparted temporarily by the Law would one day be replaced by the absolute attainment of holiness when Christians exchanged their sin for the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Practical Application: God takes His holiness very seriously, and so should we. The
trend in the postmodern church is to create God in our own image, giving Him the
attributes we would like Him to have instead of the ones His Word describes. God’s
utter holiness, His transcendent splendor, and His “unapproachable light” (1 Timothy
6:16) are foreign concepts to many Christians. We are called to walk in the Light and to
put away the darkness in our lives so that we may be pleasing in His sight. A holy God
cannot tolerate blatant, unashamed sin in His people and His holiness requires Him to
punish it. We dare not be flippant in our attitudes toward sin or God’s loathing of it, nor
should we make light of it in any way.
Praise the Lord that because of Jesus’ death on our behalf, we no longer have to offer
animal sacrifices. Leviticus is all about substitution. The death of the animals was a
substitute penalty for those who have sinned. In the same way, but infinitely better, the
sacrifice of Jesus on the cross was the substitute for our sins. Now we can stand before a God of utter holiness without fear because He sees in us the righteousness of Christ.

Inleiding tot die Bybel – Bybel Samevattings

    Opsomming van die boek
    Levitikus

boek Levitikus geskryf?
Ek is die HERE.”
