Mark 14:32 And they came to a place which was named Gethsemane: and he saith to his disciples, Sit ye here, while I shall pray.
33 And he taketh with him Peter and James and John, and began to be sore amazed, and to be very heavy;
34 And saith unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful unto death: tarry ye here, and watch.
35 And he went forward a little, and fell on the ground, and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him.
36 And he said, Abba, Father, all things are possible unto thee; take away this cup from me: nevertheless not what I will, but what thou wilt.
37 And he cometh, and findeth them sleeping, and saith unto Peter, Simon, sleepest thou? couldest not thou watch one hour?
38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak.
39 And again he went away, and prayed, and spoke the same words. Anything is possible with God, just pray.
Pray with other believers, and be one in prayer.
Prayer will guard you against, plans of the enemy. Follow the 12 steps to Heaven and Heaven will open up to you Luke 3:21. Now when all the people were baptized, it came to pass, that

Bible Teaching of the Day

Concentrate on the Cross – Part 18

The idea that Golgotha had a twin significance—as the site of Jesus’ death and as Adam’s burial place—stems from an ancient legend fueled by medieval allegory and various theological considerations.

The notion that Jesus was crucified on top of the tomb of Adam crops up fairly early in Christian history. Origen, Chrysostom, and Jerome all make reference to the idea—although, notably, none of those three ever conceded the truth of the tale. Epiphanius of Salamis (c. 315—403) wrote that “our Lord Jesus Christ was crucified on Golgotha, nowhere else than where Adam’s body lay buried. For after leaving Paradise, living opposite it for a long time and growing old, Adam later came and died in this place, I mean Jerusalem, and was buried there, on the site of Golgotha. This was probably the way the place, which means ‘Place of a Skull,’ got its name, since the contour of the site bears no resemblance to a skull” (Panarion, Book I, §45, “Against Severians”).

Jewish tradition says that Adam was buried in Hebron, in the Cave of Machpelah, the same place where Abraham and his family were later buried (see Genesis 49:30–31). There are a couple of different Islamic legends that also deal with Adam’s final resting place. According to one tradition related by Ibn Kathir, Noah took Adam’s remains on board the ark with him and later reburied Adam in Jerusalem.

A Christian tradition—the one mentioned by Origen, et al.—places the tomb of Adam in Jerusalem immediately beneath the place where Jesus’ cross stood. In some versions of the story, Adam’s burial site is called the Cave of Treasures. Today in Jerusalem, along the Via Dolorosa, there is a small room near the Stone of Unction before Station 14 called the Chapel of Adam, where Adam was supposedly buried. To the east of the chapel, through a window, what is known as the Golgotha Rock is visible. The rock is cracked (a feature attributed to the earthquake mentioned in Matthew 27:51). According to the story, the crack allowed Jesus’ blood to drip down into Adam’s grave, onto Adam’s skull—and in this way redeeming the first man.

During the Middle Ages, a couple different legends intertwined to form a complicated history of the cross upon which Jesus died. The Legend of the Holy Rood Tree starts after the fall. As Adam lies on his deathbed, his son Seth goes back to Eden hoping to find something to give life to his father. The angel guarding Eden denies Seth entrance, of course, but he does give Seth three seeds from the Tree of Life to bury with Adam. Those seeds grow after Adam’s death, and the wood from those trees is used throughout biblical history for everything from healing the waters of Marah to building a bridge for the Queen of Sheba. Eventually, the same tree is used to make Jesus’ cross. The cross is set up over Adam’s tomb; so, by coincidence, the tree is back to the place where it originally grew.

Many painters of the Renaissance alluded to the legend that Jesus was crucified over the tomb of Adam. Greek Orthodox icons featuring the crucifixion almost always include Adam’s skull situated below Jesus’ cross. Many artists, including Carlo Crivelli, Andrea Solario, Philippe de Champaigne, Rogier van der Weyden, Jacobello Alberegno, Fra Angelico, Hans Wertinger, Marcello Venusti, and Pesellino, used the same imagery, placing a skull at the base of Jesus’ cross. So Adam’s tomb is a common motif in classical paintings of Jesus’ crucifixion.

The legend that Adam’s tomb was beneath the place where Jesus was crucified is just that—a legend—but there are some theological truths that make the legend appealing. Adam is the one who brought death into the world, and Jesus Christ brought life through His death (Romans 5:12, 15–17). In fact, Jesus is called “the last Adam” in 1 Corinthians 15:45. It is the blood of Christ, shed on the cross, that redeems fallen mankind from the curse of Adam. The “old man” has been superseded by the “new man” (Ephesians 4:20–24, NKJV). Because of Christ’s sacrifice, death has been defeated (1 Corinthians 15:55–57).

The exact place of Jesus’ crucifixion is uncertain. The place of Adam’s burial is impossible to ascertain, as the Bible gives no hint. Classical art may depict the bones of Adam as a symbol of death, placing the cross of Christ as a victorious ensign over a defeated foe, but we do not take such artistic flourishes literally. Jesus was very likely not crucified on top of the tomb of Adam.

Today’s Devotional

“IF YOU CAN ONLY BELIEVE”

Got any rivers you think are uncrossable?
Got any mountains you can’t tunnel through?
God specializes in things thought impossible
He does the things others cannot do.

Depressed, broken or torn to pieces? God specializes in the impossible! Not feeling well; are you sick or dying? God specializes in the impossible! Financially struggling, sequestered or even bankrupt? God specializes in the impossible! Children lost; straying from God or yourself? God specializes in the impossible! Drugs, alcohol, molestation or other problems in the family? God specializes in the impossible! Spiritually lost, outside of God’s will? God specializes in the impossible!

There is a worldly view that says: “If you believe, you can achieve it” or “If you believe, you can do it” Maria Carrey herself sings:

Oh yes, there can be miracles when you believe
Though hope is frail, it’s hard to kill
Who knows what miracle you can achieve when you believe
Somehow you will, you will when you believe

And for some strange reason the song found its way into the church and is sung as if it were gospel. But faith is not about what you can achieve. Faith also does not give us supernatural power to do something. True faith should be in God. We are taught that faith sees the solution and not the problem. Faith sees health and not illness, sees prosperity and not adversity. And yet, when we believe like that we often become involved in one of the greatest errors of our time because any faith that is not based in God is actually unbelief. Faith must at all times revolve around Christ, put God in focus. Instead of seeing the solution rather than the problem, we should see Jesus the Problem Solver. Instead of seeing healing rather than illness, we should see Jesus the Healer. Instead of seeing prosperity rather than adversity, we should see Jesus the Provider. Believing in anything or anyone else is nothing but idolatry, an affront to God and our Lord Jesus Christ through whom all things are possible.

Having faith in our faith is a far cry from believing in God. Believing in yourself is a far cry from believing in Jesus. Thinking that positive confession will make a difference is almost like believing that the devil will lead you to God.

Let’s take a quick look at Mark 9:23 And Jesus said to him, “If you can believe, all things are possible to him who believes.” Unfortunately, we have mistakenly come to believe that we can achieve anything by just believing, when faith is unqualified and unfocused. The verse may not and cannot be read alone but must be read together with verse 22 where the man says: “But if you can do anything, have mercy on us and help us.” The man therefore doubts Jesus a little and says: “if it is possible or if you are able.” Then Jesus answers him by saying: “If you can believe.” By this, Jesus confirms that the man must believe that He (Jesus) can. The faith needed is therefore faith that says: “I believe You (Jesus) can. I know that all things are possible for You therefore I do not rely on my faith but on You who are able to do all things”

Spurgeon once said: “The best sermons are sermons which are fullest of Christ. A sermon without Christ as its beginning, middle and end is a mistake in conception and a crime in execution.” I want to state the following unequivocally: “The best faith is faith which is fullest of Christ. Faith without Christ as its beginning, middle and end is a mistake in conception and a crime in execution”

God specializes in the impossible and He can do what no other can do except by putting our faith in Him, in God through Jesus Christ, our Savior.

Vandag se Bemoediging

“AS JY NET KAN GLO”

Got any rivers you think are uncrossable?
Got any mountains you can’t tunnel through?
God specializes in things thought impossible
He does the things others cannot do.

Depresief, gebroke of stukkend geskeur? God spesialiseer in die onmoontlikke! Voel U nie goed nie; is U siek of sterwend? God spesialiseer in die onmoontlikke! Finansiëel sukkelend, gesekwistreer of selfs bankrot? God spesialiseer in die onmoontlikke! Kinders verlore; weggedwaal van God of jouself? God spesialiseer in die onmoontlikke! Dwelms, drank, molestasies of ander probleme in die familie? God spesialiseer in die onmoontlikke! Geestelik verlore, buite God se wil? God spesialiseer in die onmoontlikke!

Daar is ‘n wêreldse beskouing wat sê: “As jy glo kan jy dit bereik” of “As jy glo, kan jy dit doen” Maria Carrey sing selfs:

Oh yes, there can be miracles when you believe
Though hope is frail, it’s hard to kill
Who knows what miracle you can achieve when you believe
Somehow you will, you will when you believe

Die man twyfel dus ‘n bietjie in Jesus en sê: “as dit moontlik is of as U in staat is.”

Spurgeon het eens gesê: “The best sermons are sermons which are fullest of Christ. A sermon without Christ as its beginning, middle and end is a mistake in conception and a crime in execution.” Ek wil die volgende onomwonde stel: “The best faith is faith which is fullest of Christ. Faith without Christ as its beginning, middle and end is a mistake in conception and a crime in execution”

INTRODUCTION TO THE GOSPEL ARTIST

MEET ” The Collingsworth Family

The Collingsworth Family is a Southern Gospel/Inspirational group started by Phil and Kim Collingsworth and features their family as the group. They are currently signed to gospel label Gaither Music Group. Phil and Kim have four Children (Brooklyn Rose), (Courtney Noel), (Phillip Jr.), and (Olivia Diane).

History
Phil and Kim both came from a Christian upbringing. They met in high school and married upon graduating high school. Kim recalls, “We had our first date when I was 16, and he was 21. Poor guy, he had to wait on me to grow up. We were so in love and really wanted to get married. So, I decided to cram four years of high school into three so I could graduate from high school in 1986. The same year he would graduate from college. That plan worked well.”

Ministry
Phil and Kim Collingsworth started in the music ministry when they were musicians at a church camp in Petersburg, Michigan, in August 1986. The two performed as a duo for 14 years, balancing gigs with raising children and Phil’s job at a life insurance agency. In 2000, they made the decision to tour full time. That’s also when their children — 10, 9, 6 and 2 at the time — became permanent members of the act.

Phil and Kim have provided music presentations for church camps and extended-length revival campaigns. They have also held the positions of Minister of Music at Hobe Sound Bible Church in Hobe Sound, FL, and Director of the Music Division at Union Bible College and Seminary in Westfield, Indiana. Phil was Dean of Enrollment Management at his alma mater, God’s Bible School and College, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Career
The Collingsworths signed with Crossroads Entertainment and Marketing in 2003. In 2009, the Collingsworth Family signed with then new Christian label Stowtown Records.

In 2014, The Collingsworth Family recorded two live projects in Spartanburg, South Carolina. Majestic, a live CD and DVD from piano performer Kim Collingsworth and friends stemmed from a show in Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium with a crowd of more than 2,300 over a 5-hour concert. A DVD, We Will Serve the Lord, was released in October, 2014.

In 2018, they released their album Mercy and Love, a collection of covers and new songs.

The group’s influence extends beyond the United States. In 2003, they performed in Kosovo, where more than 6,500 U.S. Army personnel heard their Christmas concerts at two military bases. In 2004, they gave a concert in the Cayman Islands.

Recognition
The Collingsworth Family received the 2007 Harmony Award in the New Artist of the Year category from the Southern Gospel Music Guild.[4] Their album The Best of The Collingsworth Family – Volume 1 was nominated for Best Roots Gospel Album in the 2018 Grammy Awards.

Bible Prophecy in the News

Judea & Samaria are Key to the Next Stage of Jewish Redemption

This Passover, as we celebrate our ancient redemption from Egypt, we must open our eyes to the modern redemption unfolding in our very own homeland — Judea and Samaria. In this powerful interview, I speak with Rabbi Tuly Weisz of Israel365 who shares why standing up for our biblical heartland today is not just political — it’s spiritual, it’s redemptive, and it’s our generation’s calling. Israel365 is also running a new party in the World Zionist Congress to ensure the global Jewish community and institutions place more of a focus on Judea & Samaria and looking after all Jews.

Introduction to the Bible – Bible Summary

Summary of the Book of 2
Samuel

Author: The Book of 2 Samuel does not identify its author. It could not be the Prophet
Samuel, since he died in 1 Samuel. Possible writers include Nathan and Gad (see 1
Chronicles 29:29).
Date of Writing: Originally, the books of 1 and 2 Samuel were one book. The
translators of the Septuagint separated them, and we have retained that separation ever
since. The events of 1 Samuel span approximately 100 years, from c. 1100 B.C. to c. 1000
B.C. The events of 2 Samuel cover another 40 years. The date of writing, then, would be
sometime after 960 B.C.
Purpose of Writing: 2 Samuel is the record of King David’s reign. This book places the
Davidic Covenant in its historical context.
Key Verses:
“Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be
established forever” (2 Samuel 7:16).
“But the king covered his face, and the king cried with a loud voice, O my son Absalom,
O Absalom, my son, my son!” (2 Samuel 19:4).
“”The LORD is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer; my God is my rock, in whom I take
refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation. He is my stronghold, my refuge and my
savior—from violent men you save me. I call to the LORD, who is worthy of praise, and I
am saved from my enemies” (2 Samuel 22:2-4).
Brief Summary: The book of 2 Samuel can be divided into two main sections—David’s
triumphs (chapters 1-10) and David’s troubles (chapters 11-20). The last part of the book
(chapters 21-24) is a non-chronological appendix which contains further details of
David’s reign.
The book begins with David receiving news of the death of Saul and his sons. He
proclaims a time of mourning. Soon afterward, David is crowned king over Judah, while
Ish-bosheth, one of Saul’s surviving sons, is crowned king over Israel (chapter 2). A civil
war follows, but Ish-bosheth is murdered, and the Israelites ask David to reign over
them as well (chapters 4-5).
David moves the country’s capital from Hebron to Jerusalem and later moves the Ark of
the Covenant (chapters 5-6). David’s plan to build a temple in Jerusalem is vetoed by
God, who then promises David the following things: 1) David would have a son to rule
after him; 2) David’s son would build the temple; 3) the throne occupied by David’s
lineage would be established forever; and 4) God would never take His mercy from
David’s house (2 Samuel 7:4-16).
David leads Israel to victory over many of the enemy nations which surrounded them.
He also shows kindness to the family of Jonathan by taking in Mephibosheth, Jonathan’s
crippled son (chapters 8-10).
Then David falls. He lusts for a beautiful woman named Bathsheba, commits adultery
with her, and then has her husband murdered (chapter 11). When Nathan the prophet
confronts David with his sin, David confesses, and God graciously forgives. However, the
Lord tells David that trouble would arise from within his own household.
Trouble does come when David’s firstborn son, Amnon, rapes his half-sister, Tamar. In
retaliation, Tamar’s brother Absalom kills Amnon. Absalom then flees Jerusalem rather
than face his father’s anger. Later, Absalom leads a revolt against David, and some of
David’s former associates join the rebellion (chapters 15-16). David is forced out of
Jerusalem, and Absalom sets himself up as king for a short time. The usurper is
overthrown, however, and—against David’s wishes—is killed. David mourns his fallen
son.
A general feeling of unrest plagues the remainder of David’s reign. The men of Israel
threaten to split from Judah, and David must suppress another uprising (chapter 20).
The book’s appendix includes information concerning a three-year famine in the land
(chapter 21), a song of David (chapter 22), a record of the exploits of David’s bravest
warriors (chapter 23), and David’s sinful census and the ensuing plague (chapter 24).
Foreshadowings: The Lord Jesus Christ is seen primarily in two parts of 2 Samuel. First,
the Davidic Covenant as outlined in 2 Samuel 7:16: “Your house and your kingdom will
endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever” and reiterated
in Luke 1:31-33 in the words of the angel who appeared to Mary to announce Jesus’
birth to her: “He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. The Lord God
will give him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob
forever; his kingdom will never end.” Christ is the fulfillment of the Davidic Covenant; He
is the Son of God in the line of David who will reign forever.
Second, Jesus is seen in the song of David at the end of his life (2 Samuel 22:2-51). He
sings of his rock, fortress and deliverer, his refuge and savior. Jesus is our Rock (1
Corinthians 10:4; 1 Peter 2:7-9), the Deliverer of Israel (Romans 11:25-27), the fortress to
whom we “have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us” (Hebrews 6:18
KJV), and our only Savior (Luke 2:11; 2 Timothy 1:10).
Practical Application: Anyone can fall. Even a man like David, who truly desired to
follow God and who was richly blessed by God, was susceptible to temptation. David’s
sin with Bathsheba should be a warning to all of us to guard our hearts, our eyes, and
our minds. Pride over our spiritual maturity and our ability to withstand temptation in
our own strength is the first step to a downfall (1 Corinthians 10:12).
God is gracious to forgive even the most heinous sins when we truly repent. However,
healing the wound caused by sin does not always erase the scar. Sin has natural
consequences, and even after he was forgiven, David reaped what he had sown. His son
from the illicit union with another man’s wife was taken from him (2 Samuel 12:14-24)
and David suffered the misery of a break in his loving relationship with his heavenly
Father (Psalms 32 and 51). How much better to avoid sin in the first place, rather than
having to seek forgiveness later!

Inleiding tot die Bybel – Bybel Samevattings

Opsomming van die Boek van 2
Samuel
Skrywer:
Moontlike skrywers sluit
O my seun Absalom, o Absalom, my seun, my seun!” ( 2 Samuel 19:4 ).
“”Die HERE is my rots, my vesting en my redder; my God is my rots by wie ek skuil, my
skild en die horing van my verlossing. Hy is my vesting, my toevlug en my redder – van
geweldenaars, julle red my, ek roep die HERE aan, wat lofwaardig is, en ek word verlos
van my vyande” ( 2 Samuel 22:2-4 )
verkrag. As weerwraak vermoor Tamar se broer Absalom Amnon.

    plaag (hoofstuk 24).
Voorafskaduwings: Die Here Jesus Christus word hoofsaaklik in twee dele van 2
Samuel gesien.
