There are six very good reasons why you should study Bible prophecy.

  1. Nearly a Third of the Bible is Prophecy

Some 31% of the Bible is God letting mankind know what the future holds. And I’m not just talking about the writings of the Major and Minor Prophets and the book of Revelation. If you don’t want to read prophecy, then you also have to skip the Psalms, Jesus’ own teachings in the Gospels, and pretty much all the books by Peter, Paul, Jude and John.

The Apostle Paul warned Christians, “Do not despise prophecies.” He even confirmed that “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God” and so that must also include the prophetic writings. And, even Jesus throughout the Gospels and Revelation, recited prophecies from the Old Testament and taught new ones. To top it all off, Jesus promised a blessing for those who read and obey the prophecies in the book of Revelation.

So, if prophecy is so important to Jesus, then shouldn’t it be important to Christians as well?

  1. The Focus of Prophecy is Jesus Christ

Bible prophecy is in the end all about Jesus. Jesus declared He must fulfill prophecy so that “…all things must be fulfilled which were written in the Law of Moses and the Prophets and the Psalms concerning Me.” The angel of Revelation 19 even equated the testimony of Jesus with prophecy, declaring “…Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.”

If Jesus did not fulfill even one of the 109 distinct First Coming prophecies about the Messiah, then He couldn’t be who He claimed to be — the Savior.

Fulfilled prophecy validates Jesus’ claim to divinity and being our Savior.

  1. Fulfilled Prophecies Prove the Bible is Truly God’s Word

The Bible is unique in being prophetic. There is no religious book, not by Buddha or Krishna or Mohammed or anyone else, ever written which contains so much prophecy. And, I’m not talking about general prophecies about the future, but super specific prophecies such as the Messiah would descend from the line of David, be born in Bethlehem, be killed by crucifixion, and be raised from the dead three days later.

The actual fulfillment of all these prophecies and over a hundred more proves the Bible truly is the Word of God, and so we can put our faith in what it teaches.

  1. Bible Prophecy Motivates One to Holy Living

The Prophets and Apostles didn’t just relay God’s messages about the future, but they also gave powerful messages concerning living morally. For example, Romans 13 encourages, “…the day is at hand. Therefore let us cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armor of light.”

When the people obeyed prophetic teachings, they grew spiritually. 1 John 3 declares, “…when He [Jesus] is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”

They became better people, being less self-centered and more God-centered. 1 Peter 4 admonishes, “But the end of all things is at hand; therefore be serious and watchful in your prayers… have fervent love for one another… minister to one another, be good stewards…”

When a person is more heavenly minded they’ll be more generous because they’re investing in eternity. 2 Peter 3 advises, “But the day of the Lord will come… Therefore, since all these things will be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy conduct and godliness, looking for and hastening the coming of the day of God…”

And, the people became much better at discerning truth from falsehoods. Luke 21 warns, “But take heed to yourselves, lest your hearts be weighed down with carousing, drunkenness, and cares of this life, and that Day come on you unexpectedly…”

  1. Bible Prophecy Energizes Christians to Evangelize

Knowing that we’re quickly running out of time before Jesus returns, Christians when they study Bible prophecy become motivated to get out there and tell people about the Good News of Jesus Christ.

Fulfilled Bible prophecies actually are an excellent apologetics tool for defending the faith. And, the Gospel is very attractive to people wanting to know what the future holds.

  1. Bible Prophecy Provides Hope for the Future

When the world seems to be careening into chaos and you wonder if God’s still around, Bible prophecy tells us God certainly is still in control. In the light of Bible prophecy, these crazy current events finally make sense. They’re all leading up to one big thing — Jesus Christ’s return.

And when Jesus returns, He wins! And when Jesus wins, believers in Christ, well, we win as well! So, when you live a life of anticipating victory, you too can have hope for the future.

Summary

So in summary, to reject Bible prophecy means skipping almost a third of the Bible. The focus of prophecy is Jesus Christ. Fulfilled prophecies prove the Bible is truly God’s Word. Prophecy motivates Christians to holy living, to evangelism, and to have hope about the future.

The Apostle Peter warned, “that scoffers will come in the last days, walking according to their own lusts, and saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming?’” Will that be you? No! Or, will you embrace the wonder that Is Jesus Christ, the focus and fulfillment of Bible prophecy?

Daar is ses baie goeie redes waarom jy Bybelprofesieë moet bestudeer.

  1. Die Fokus van Profesie is Jesus Christus

Bybelprofesie gaan uiteindelik alles oor Jesus.

Johannes 3:6

Gebed

Here.

Bible Teaching of the Day

We should read and study the Bible because it is God’s Word to us. The Bible is literally “God-breathed” (2 Timothy 3:16). In other words, it is God’s very words to us. There are so many questions that philosophers have asked that God answers for us in Scripture. What is the purpose to life? Where did I come from? Is there life after death? How do I get to heaven? Why is the world full of evil? Why do I struggle to do good? In addition to these “big” questions, the Bible gives much practical advice in areas such as: How can I be a good friend? What is success and how do I achieve it? How can I change? What really matters in life? How can I live so that I do not look back with regret? How can I handle the unfair circumstances and bad events of life victoriously? What do I look for in a mate? How can I have a successful marriage? How can I be a good parent?

We should read and study the Bible because it is totally reliable and without error. The Bible is unique among so-called “holy” books in that it does not merely give moral teaching and say, “Trust me.” Rather, we have the ability to test it by checking the hundreds of detailed prophecies that it makes, by checking the historical accounts it records, and by checking the scientific facts it relates. Those who say the Bible has errors have their ears closed to the truth. Jesus once asked which is easier to say, “Your sins are forgiven you,” or “Rise, take up your bed and walk.” Then He proved He had the ability to forgive sins (something we cannot see with our eyes) by healing the paralytic (something those around Him could test with their eyes, see Matthew 9:1-8 and Mark 2:1-12). Similarly, we are given assurance that God’s Word is true when it discusses spiritual areas that we cannot test with our senses by showing itself true in those areas that we can test, such as historical accuracy, scientific accuracy, and prophetic accuracy.

We should read and study the Bible because God does not change and because mankind’s nature does not change; it is as relevant for us as it was when it was written. While technology changes, mankind’s nature and desires do not change. We find, as we read the pages of biblical history, that whether we are talking about one-on-one relationships or societies, “there is nothing new under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). And while mankind as a whole continues to seek love and satisfaction in all of the wrong places, God—our good and gracious Creator—tells us what will bring us lasting joy. His revealed Word, the Bible, is so important that Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 8:3 in response to one of Satan’s temptations in the wilderness: “Jesus answered, ‘It is written: “Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God”’” (Matthew 4:4). In other words, if we want to live life to the fullest, as God intended, we must listen to and heed God’s written Word.

We should read and study the Bible because there is so much false teaching. The Bible gives us the measuring stick by which we can distinguish truth from error. It tells us what God is like. To have a wrong impression of God is to worship an idol or false god. We are worshiping something that He is not. The Bible tells us how one truly gets to heaven, and it is not by being good or by being baptized or by anything else we do (Isaiah 53:6; John 14:6; Romans 3:10-18; 5:8; 6:23; 10:9-13; Ephesians 2:1-10). Along this line, God’s Word shows us just how much God loves us (John 3:16; Romans 5:6-8). And it is in learning this that we are drawn to love Him in return (1 John 4:19).

The Bible equips us to serve God (2 Timothy 3:17; Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12). It helps us know how to be saved from our sin and its ultimate consequence (2 Timothy 3:15). Meditating on God’s Word and obeying its teachings will bring success in life (Joshua 1:8; James 1:25). God’s Word helps us see sin in our lives and helps us get rid of it (Psalm 119:9, 11). It gives us guidance in life, making us wiser than our teachers (Psalm 32:8, 119:99; Proverbs 1:6). The Bible keeps us from wasting years of our lives on that which does not matter and will not last (Matthew 7:24-27).

Reading and studying the Bible helps us see beyond the attractive “bait” to the painful “hook” in sinful temptations, so that we can learn from others’ mistakes rather than making them ourselves. Experience is a great teacher, but when it comes to learning from sin, it is a terribly hard teacher. It is so much better to learn from others’ mistakes. There are so many Bible characters to learn from, some of whom can serve as both positive and negative role models at different times in their lives. For example, David, in his defeat of Goliath, teaches us that God is greater than anything He asks us to face (1 Samuel 17), while his giving in to the temptation to commit adultery with Bathsheba reveals just how long-lasting and terrible the consequences of a moment’s sinful pleasure can be (2 Samuel 11).

The Bible is a book that is not merely for reading. It is a book for studying so that it can be applied. Otherwise, it is like swallowing food without chewing and then spitting it back out again—no nutritional value is gained by it. The Bible is God’s Word. As such, it is as binding as the laws of nature. We can ignore it, but we do so to our own detriment, just as we would if we ignored the law of gravity. It cannot be emphasized strongly enough just how important the Bible is to our lives. Studying the Bible can be compared to mining for gold. If we make little effort and merely “sift through the pebbles in a stream,” we will only find a little gold dust. But the more we make an effort to really dig into it, the more reward we will gain for our effort.

Waar kom ek vandaan? Waarna soek ek in ‘n maat?

As sodanig is dit net so bindend soos die natuurwette.

Today’s Devotional

The Bible tells us that the Israelites were to eat only unleavened bread every year during Passover as a commemoration of the Exodus from Egyptian bondage. Since the children of Israel left Egypt hastily, they did not have time for the bread to rise, so it was made on that very first Passover without leaven, also known as yeast. In describing this bread and why it was eaten, the Bible informs us of the following: “Do not eat it with bread made with yeast, but for seven days eat unleavened bread, the bread of affliction, because you left Egypt in haste—so that all the days of your life you may remember the time of your departure from Egypt” (Deuteronomy 16:3). Further commands regarding the eating of unleavened bread are found in Exodus 12:8; 29:2; and Numbers 9:11. To this day, in Jewish homes, the Passover celebration includes unleavened bread.

According to the Hebrew lexicon, the term unleavened bread is derived from the word matzoh, which means “bread or cake without leaven.” The lexicon also states that matzoh is in turn derived from a word which means “to drain out or suck.” In referring to this second Hebrew word, the lexicon states, “In the sense of greedily devouring for sweetness.” So it is quite possible that unleavened bread, while it may have been heavy and flat, may also have been sweet to the taste.

In the Bible, leaven is almost always symbolic of sin. Like leaven that permeates the whole lump of dough, sin will spread in a person, a church, or a nation, eventually overwhelming and bringing its participants into its bondage and eventually to death (Galatians 5:9). Romans 6:23 tell us that “the wages of sin is death,” which is God’s judgment for sin, and this is the reason that Christ died—to provide a way out of this judgment for sin if man will repent of his sins, accept Christ as his Passover sacrifice, and have his heart changed so that he can conform his life to what God commands.

(Matt 27:46).

Feeling Abandoned:

The Bible gives us many examples of people who acted in faith despite their feelings of abandonment. Abram felt that God’s promise of an heir had not been fulfilled (Genesis 15:2-3).

The Psalmist felt ignored in his trouble (Psalm 10:1). Job’s problems were so great that he thought God might even kill him (Job 13:15). And Jesus from the cross cried out, “My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?” (Matt. 27:46). Yet in every case God has been shown to be faithful (Gen. 21:1-7, Ps. 10:16, Job 38:1 – 42:17; Matt. 28:9-20).
Although Satan may try to tempt you to think you are forsaken, God is always near. He never forsakes His own. “God has said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb. 13:5). We can say with boldness, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid” (v. 6).

God is always near despite our fears.

Bible Prophecy in the News

Canada ‘rewarding Hamas’ with Palestinian state recognition

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney announced Wednesday that Canada will officially recognize a Palestinian state at the UN General Assembly in September, following similar moves by the United Kingdom and France.

“Canada has long been committed to a two-state solution, an independent, viable and sovereign Palestinian state living side by side with the State of Israel in peace and security,” Carney said during a press conference.

The prime minister added that Canada “condemns the fact that the Israeli government has allowed a catastrophe to unfold in Gaza,” and said the decision was made “because the Palestinian Authority has committed to lead much-needed reform.”

However, the Palestinian Authority (PA) has refused to end its pay-for-slay program, which provides financial rewards to terrorists convicted of murdering Israelis, along with payments to their families.

Carney also claimed that PA President Mahmoud Abbas pledged to hold long-overdue elections—an indication, he said, that the Palestinian leadership is embracing democracy.

Abbas, who has served as PA president since 2006, was initially elected to a four-year term but has repeatedly canceled elections over the past 16 years. Widely unpopular among Palestinians, Abbas remains in power without a democratic mandate.

Germany demands progress on Palestinian statehood as Portugal set to recognize Palestinian state.

Portugal has decided to recognize unilateral Palestinian statehood in September, the country’s foreign minister announced Thursday, while Germany is demanding progress toward the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Portuguese Foreign Minister Paulo Rangel told the SIC news site that his country will recognize unilateral Palestinian statehood in September, alongside at least 14 other countries, including France, the UK, and Canada.

“This was agreed upon by all of us. President Macron doesn’t decide alone, and we follow suit,” Rangel said. “It’s a matter we’re deciding together. ”

Germany, which has thus far declined to back unilateral Palestinian statehood, called for progress toward the establishment of a Palestinian state while warning against “unilateral steps,” without specifying whether this comment was directed at Ramallah’s bid for recognition or Israeli plans to apply sovereignty in Judea and Samaria.

“Germany will continue to advocate that Hamas finally sets free the hostages, which include German nationals, is disarmed and no longer exerts political influence in the Palestinian territories,” German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said before departing for Israel on Thursday.
