Biblical Christianity relies on the Bible to understand true faith. It is counter to cultural Christianity, which does not truly adhere to the faith or the Bible. Biblical Christianity bases its doctrine on the Bible alone. Cultural Christianity may be based on family background, personal experience, country of residence, or social environment—what the Bible says is secondary. Cultural Christianity produces nominal believers who label themselves as Christians but who allow culture to define their convictions. Biblical Christianity produces true believers who use God’s Word to understand salvation and what it means to be a Christian.

Biblical Christianity adheres to the fundamentals of the Christian faith, as found in the Bible:

1) The Triunity of God: the one God exists eternally in three Persons.
2) Jesus Christ is fully man and fully God. His death was the substitutionary sacrifice for sinners, and He rose again bodily.
3) Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Christ alone.
4) The sixty-six books of the Bible are God’s Word, inspired, inerrant, and sufficient for living a godly life.
5) Jesus Christ is coming again to judge sin and rule the world.

Any departure from these points represents a departure from biblical Christianity.

The words we have in both the Old and New Testaments are described as God’s very words (Job 23:12; Psalm 119:9; Isaiah 55:11; John 6:63; 2 Timothy 3:16–17). The apostle Paul commends the believers in Thessalonica for accepting what he shared as God’s words to them: “And we also thank God continually because, when you received the word of God, which you heard from us, you accepted it not as a human word, but as it actually is, the word of God, which is indeed at work in you who believe” (1 Thessalonians 2:13). Jesus Himself exemplified the importance of God’s Word. When He was tempted, He relied on Scripture to defeat Satan, saying, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God’” (Matthew 4:4). This is the example the early Christians followed in their faith.

In the days of the early church, there was no such thing as cultural Christianity. Believers were in many ways counter-cultural, transformed by Christ’s resurrection and the Holy Spirit. They studied the Scriptures (Acts 17:11). They were biblical Christians. Whereas cultural Christianity is comfortable and focused on cultural issues, biblical Christianity produces believers who are willing to die for their faith based on what the Bible says. Biblical Christianity is historic Christianity.

A true Christian has received Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior (John 1:12). He believes that Christ has paid the penalty for his sin (2 Corinthians 5:21). He trusts in Jesus’ resurrection. Jesus said that anyone who wishes to become His disciple must “deny himself, take up his cross daily, and follow me” (Luke 9:23). A biblical Christian knows what that looks like because he bases his life on God’s Word, not on cultural norms.

The Protestant Reformation brought a revival of biblical Christianity. For centuries the Roman Catholic Church had made its traditions superior in authority to the Bible, which resulted in many practices contrary to the Bible. Sola scriptura was the cry of the Reformers. Sola scriptura means that Scripture alone is authoritative for the faith and practice of the Christian. The Bible tells us that God’s Word is true, God-breathed and complete (2 Timothy 3:16), and we are warned not to go beyond what is written (1 Corinthians 4:6). The Reformers were calling Christians back to biblical Christianity.

Today, true Christians are still rightly dividing the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15) and calling people to biblical Christianity. In a world where people want to redefine everything, we must hold firm to the truth that God’s Word endures forever (Isaiah 40:8; Mark 13:31). Our faith should be based firmly on what He has revealed to us in His Word. Christianity that is not biblical is not true Christianity.

Hulle was Bybelse Christene. Bybelse Christendom is historiese Christendom.

Bible Verse and Prayer for Today

It is not enough to turn from evil. We can clean the putrid things out of our lives and hearts, but if we do not actively pursue what is good, then a worse evil can rush into the void, and our second condition becomes worse than the first (Matthew 12:43-45). So, let’s be people who turn from evil, become eager to do what is good, and with a passion choose to “wage peace.”

Prayer

O Father, please let me be an instrument of your peace. Where there is hatred, use me to share your love and grace. Where there is injury, sin, and brokenness, please use me to bring healing, forgiveness, and comfort. Please, Abba Father, use me to do your good work in my broken world as I seek to live at peace with all people. In Jesus’ name, I pray. Amen and Amen.

Gebed

O Vader, laat my asseblief 'n instrument van u vrede wees. In Jesus se Naam, bid ek. Amen en Amen

Bible Teaching of the Day

a Biblical list of Sins

We often think that our lives can be simplified if we just have a checklist to follow. We have shopping lists, to-do lists, wish lists, and more. Surely, if God wants us to have success in living for Him, there must be a list in the Bible of sins to avoid. When we look to the Bible, we certainly do find lists of sins, but we also discover that the lists never seem to end.

From the very beginning, God told man what was right and wrong. To Adam in the Garden, God said, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die” (Genesis 2:16-17). When the children of Israel came out of Egypt, God established His Law with them at Mount Sinai. The Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:1-17) were not the whole law, but a summary of all that God had to tell them. The entire books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy are devoted to revealing to the Israelites God’s laws. Jewish rabbis say that there are 613 laws in the Torah (Books of Moses). Of those, 365 are in the “thou shalt not…” category.

What are some examples of these sins? From the Ten Commandments we have false worship, idolatry, misusing God’s name, violating the Sabbath, dishonoring parents, murder, adultery, stealing, lying/libel, and coveting. In the Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5–7), Jesus took some of these same sins to a new level. Regarding murder, Jesus said, “Anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment…. But anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell” (Matthew 5:22). Regarding adultery, Jesus said, “Anyone who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart” (Matthew 5:28). In Galatians 5:19-21, we are told, “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like. I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.” Just these brief lists will give most people plenty of things to work on for a lifetime. In addition to the various lists that can be found in Scripture, we are told in 1 John 5:17 that “all wrongdoing is sin.” Not only does the Bible tell us the things not to do, but in James 4:17, we are informed that anyone “who knows the good he ought to do and doesn’t do it, sins.”

When we try to compile a list of sins, we find ourselves buried under the guilt of our own failures because we discover that we have sinned far more than we realized. The Scriptures inform us, “All who rely on observing the law are under a curse, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who does not continue to do everything written in the Book of the Law’” (Galatians 3:10). While that statement might seem self-defeating, it is actually the best news possible. Since we can never fully keep God’s Law, there must be another answer, and it is found a few verses later: “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us, for it is written: ‘Cursed is everyone who is hung on a pole.’ He redeemed us in order that the blessing given to Abraham might come to the Gentiles through Christ Jesus, so that by faith we might receive the promise of the Spirit” (Galatians 3:13-14). The Law of God, or the lists of sins that we find in the Bible, serve as a tutor to “lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith” (Galatians 3:24).

Today’s Devotional

Being a Good Christian

Wouldn’t it be great if the Christian life had a check list? A recipe of sorts to provide instructions that we could follow to ensure we were being “good Christians”? Few things in life really work that way. In fact, even recipes followed exactly don’t always turn out. They fail to account for effects of the weather, slight differences in ingredients, variance in oven temperatures, or a number of other factors. And “good” is in the taste buds of the eater. So what does it take to be a good Christian?

Many will say that it means reading your Bible daily, praying at least twice a day, serving at church, tithing, supporting a missionary, evangelizing, and the like. These are all great activities for Christians, but they are not what the Christian life is all about.

A Christian is someone who has been made new in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17) and restored to relationship with God. The Christian life is about getting to know God, enjoying Him and bringing Him glory (Isaiah 43:7; 2 Corinthians 3:18; John 17:1–5, 22). It is true that when we know God certain actions will naturally result. Jesus said, “You are my friends if you do what I command” (John 15:14). But before that He said, “I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. . . . Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. . . . This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete” (John 15:1–11). Obedience—living the “good Christian” life—flows from a loving relationship. And obedience helps us remain in God’s love and therefore experience His joy.

Being a “good Christian” is not about performing certain actions. It is about growing in love for Christ and allowing His Holy Spirit to transform our hearts and lives. Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2), the recipe-writer and taste-tester for our lives. As we seek to know God and glorify Him, we also get to enjoy Him (Psalm 73:25—26). The good Christian knows God, enjoys God, and grows in grace.

Min dinge in die lewe werk regtig so.

Jesus het gesê: “Julle is my vriende as julle doen wat ek beveel” (Johannes 15:14). . . . Bly in My, soos Ek ook in julle bly. . . . Dit is tot eer van my Vader dat julle veel vrugte dra deurdat julle my dissipels is. Soos die Vader My liefgehad het, so het Ek julle ook liefgehad. Bly nou in my liefde. As julle my gebooie bewaar, sal julle in my liefde bly, net soos Ek die gebooie van my Vader bewaar het en in sy liefde bly.

Waar Kom Ek Vandaan ?

Where Do I Come From?

Someone asked me something that made me think deeply. Since Adam and Eve were white, where did black people come from? I said that we don’t know what color Adam and Eve were and asked why he thought they had to be white. He said that’s what he always saw in the church library, in Bibles and children’s books. It upset me and made me wonder if he didn’t think he was inferior and maybe not even created by God.
All people were created by God and therefore all are equally worthy. That is what the apostle Paul told the people of Athens: “God made from one man … every nation of men, to dwell on all the face of the earth” (Acts 17:26). Darrel Bock writes in his commentary on the book of Acts that we are all of one blood.
This statement would have been very difficult for the people of Athens to accept, because they considered themselves a special group of people called barbarians. However, since we all descended from Adam and Eve, no race or group of people is inferior and of less importance than others.
We all stand in awe before our Lord and Creator who gives to all life and breath (Acts 17:25). Blessed before God, we can all praise and glorify Him.

Every created life on earth
is our God’s handiwork.
If we respect his creation,
we are strengthened in faith.

God loves each of us, as if we were the only person on earth.

Signs of the Times

The Crypto Crash Was Just A Dress Rehearsal For What’s Coming Next

When everyone’s chasing the same thing, danger isn’t far behind. The markets have become a mirror of our herd instincts-moving not by wisdom or discernment, but by imitation.
