Hosted by TruLight Ministries – The Place of Truth

“The truth will set you free” is a common saying in academic circles that want to promote academic freedom and the power of learning. Many universities have this statement emblazoned on a sign near the entrance of a building. But “the truth will set you free” did not originate in academia; Jesus said it in John 8:32. In context, Jesus’ statement has nothing to do with classroom learning. In fact, John 8:32 speaks of a higher form of knowledge than is capable of being learned in a classroom.
Jesus had just finished a speech at the temple where He delineated differences between Himself and His listeners. “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am he, you will indeed die in your sins” (John 8:23–24). The result of Jesus’ message was that “even as he spoke, many believed in him” (verse 30). Then, in verse 31, Jesus begins to speak just to those who had believed.
“Jesus said, ‘If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples’” (John 8:31). True discipleship is more than intellectual assent; those who are “really” followers of Christ will “hold to” His Word. That means they will not only accept His teachings as truth, but they will also obey His teachings. Action is proof of faith (cf. James 2:17).
True disciples of Jesus believe that He speaks the truth about God and the Scriptures. They also know that He is who He claims to be. Back in verse 25, the people asked Jesus who He was, and He responded, “Just what I have been telling you from the beginning.” There may be a tinge of exasperation in His response; He had repeatedly made known that He was the Messiah, the one they had anticipated for many years.
Verse 32 begins with, “Then you will know the truth.” “You” refers to those who are true disciples of Jesus. True disciples will know the truth. More than that, their eyes are opened to a greater understanding of the truth (cf. 1 John 5:20).
The truth Jesus’ disciples receive brings with it freedom. Jesus continues, “And the truth will set you free” (verse 32). At that point in history, the Jews were under the rule of the Roman government. Even though Rome gave them an exceptional amount of autonomy, they were keenly aware of the Roman presence around them in the form of soldiers, governors, and empirically appointed kings. When Jesus said the truth would set them free, however, He was not talking about political freedom (though the following verses indicate that’s how the Jews took it). Jesus provides the best commentary for His own statement in verse 34. Jesus explains, “Very truly I tell you, everyone who sins is a slave to sin.” Being a slave to sin is the ultimate bondage.
The freedom Jesus offers is a spiritual freedom from the bondage of sin—that is, release from the lifestyle of habitual lawlessness. He continues with an analogy: “Now a slave has no permanent place in the family, but a son belongs to it forever” (verse 35). The people would have understood Jesus to mean that they were not members of God’s family, despite their biological relationship to Abraham (verse 37), because they were slaves to sin. If they were to become disciples of Jesus, they would know the truth of their condition and the truth about Christ, and Jesus would set them free. Believers would be freed from their bondage and brought into the family of God.
Jesus is the Truth (John 14:6). Knowing the Truth will set one at liberty—free from sin, free from condemnation, and free from death (Romans 6:22; 8:1–2). Jesus came to proclaim liberty to the captives (Luke 4:18). “Live as people who are free, not using your freedom as a cover-up for evil, but living as servants of God” (1 Peter 2:16, ESV).
“Jesus het gesê: ‘As julle aan my leer vashou, is julle waarlik my dissipels’” (Johannes 8:31).

Bible Verse and Prayer for Today
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!
—Romans 6:15
Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
This matching verse to Romans 6:1-2 serves as a great reminder that sin is no longer our master and no longer our choice (Romans 6:14). We choose to live for God with every fiber of our being and loathe the life of sin that once held us in bondage to defeat. So, with the Holy Spirit’s power at work in us, our lives are being transformed to become like Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18).
My Prayer…
Dear God, my Father; precious Jesus my Lord; Holy Spirit, my inner companion and holy fire; please stir in me a holy passion to be the person of righteous grace you have created me and redeemed me to be in Jesus. I refuse to go back to the old way of sin. I choose to live in grace, by faith, empowered by the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, I rejoice in grace. Amen and Amen
My Gebed…
In Jesus se Naam, verheug ek my in genade. Amen en Amen

Bible Teaching of the Day
In 2 Timothy 3:7 false teachers are described as “always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth” (ESV). This verse warns that it is possible to pursue knowledge in vain. Without spiritual grounding in Christ, a person will never arrive at a knowledge of the truth.
In context (2 Timothy 3:1–5), Paul describes the moral decadence evident in the last days. Some people appear godly but deny the power of godliness (verse 5). Some will “work their way into people’s homes and win the confidence of vulnerable women who are burdened with the guilt of sin and controlled by various desires” (verse 6, NLT). And they will be “always learning and never able to arrive at a knowledge of the truth” (verse 7, ESV). Knowledge of the truth here is more than intellectual assent; it is God’s revelation in Christ, who is “the way, and the truth, and the life” (John 14:6, ESV).
To arrive at a knowledge of the truth, we must do more than accumulate facts about Christ. It’s not enough to learn religion; we must have faith in Christ. Commentator Albert Barnes stated the problem this way: “Nothing is more common than for persons to be very busy and active in religion, and even to ‘learn’ many things about it, who still remain strangers to the saving power of the gospel” (comment on 2 Timothy 3:7, Notes on the Bible, 1834).
Knowing the truth involves having a personal relationship with Christ: “This is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent” (John 17:3, ESV). How can we know Christ unless we immerse ourselves in God’s Word? Jesus told His disciples, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31–32, ESV). A hardened heart cannot receive or know Christ.
Many people fail to arrive at a knowledge of the truth because of spiritual blindness. In 2 Corinthians 4:4, Paul writes, “The god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ” (ESV). Unbelievers do not submit to God’s revelation in Christ because of pride. However, believers trust the Lord with all their hearts and do not lean on their own understanding (Proverbs 3:5–6). Believers know that “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight” (Proverbs 9:10, ESV).
The Holy Spirit helps believers to arrive at a knowledge of the truth. In John 16:3, Jesus promised, “When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth” (ESV). The Spirit illuminates Scripture and reveals Christ. Reading and studying the Bible will not produce fruitful results without the Spirit’s help. He guides us toward the truth so we can trust and obey Christ.
Arriving at a knowledge of the truth is not a simple intellectual or academic exercise; it requires growing and maturing in the faith. James 1:22 states, “Be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (ESV). Genuine knowledge transforms our lives: “Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them” (John 13:17). Paul prays for the Colossians to “be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord” (Colossians 1:9–10, ESV). Knowing the truth changes how we think, speak, and act.
To know the truth, we must heed the gospel message and trust in Christ, who saves and sanctifies us. We must humble ourselves, rely on the Holy Spirit, and live the truth. Second Timothy 3:7 warns of the futility of intellectual pursuits without God. It calls us to pursue a deeper relationship with God that renews our minds and spirits. This can only be done through the Word and the power of the Holy Spirit: “Sanctify them in the truth,” Jesus prayed, “your word is truth” (John 17:17, ESV).

Today’s Devotional
In order for something to be declared true, it must be discoverable, transcultural, unchanging, unaffected by attitude, absolute, and knowable. For example, 2+2=4 is a truth that can be discovered (not created by one person), transcends all cultures, never changes, cannot be affected by feelings, is absolute in its factualness, and is knowable by all of humanity.
These same qualities and attributes can be ascribed to the God of the Bible. God is truth. He made Himself discoverable throughout history and through the Bible (Exodus 8:10); He transcends all cultures in His very attributes (Job 38); His existence cannot be affected by our feelings or attitudes (Psalm 25); He is absolute as the Alpha and Omega (Revelation 1:18); and He is knowable through Scripture and personal revelation by the Holy Spirit (John 16:13).
The ultimate revelation of God and therefore of truth is Jesus Christ. He is the visible image of the invisible God (Colossians 1:15). “Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father,” Jesus said (John 14:9). In the same conversation, Jesus equated Himself with truth: “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6; cf. John 1:17).
Since truth itself is part of and proceeds from the nature of God, and all truth is bound up in Jesus Christ, then, yes, all truth is God’s truth. If something is discovered to be true, like 2+2=4 or that love is the ultimate virtue (1 John 4:8), then that truth can only come from the God of truth, as revealed in the Bible.
Pontius Pilate famously asked Jesus, “What is truth?” (John 18:38). In His conversation with Pilate, Jesus said, “You say that I am a king. In fact, the reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me” (John 18:37). And that’s when Pilate, who found himself between a rock and hard place politically, asked his famous question.
The truth was standing right in front of Pilate. Jesus, the only Son of God, was speaking truth to him at that very moment. The truth wasn’t a theory or an equation or proof; truth was God in the flesh dwelling among us. Anyone who wants truth that is unalterable (as it should be by nature) must find it in the person of Jesus Christ.
Philosophers, intellectuals, and even artists have tried to name truth apart from Jesus Christ, and it’s popular to speak of “my truth” or “your truth” as opposed to a universal truth. Whole generations have rejected absolute truth in the postmodern mindset. But truth is what conforms to reality, and if something is true, it is true for all people for all time in all places.
Creation speaks to the absolute truth of God through Jesus Christ: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
All truth is God’s truth. When a mathematician works with Euler’s equation or when a biologist discovers a new species of animal, he is dealing with fundamental truths of how God designed the world. Johannes Kepler, a German astronomer who is called “the father of celestial mechanics,” is credited with describing his study of the universe as “thinking God’s thoughts after him.” Kepler understood that all truth is God’s truth.
In a world full of relativism, lies, and half-truths, it’s good to know that truth exists. To embrace God, as revealed in Jesus Christ, is to embrace truth.
God is waarheid.
(Johannes 18:38).
Hy was in die begin by God.
Alle waarheid is God se waarheid.

No Foul Language:
A while ago, an Emmy Award-winning actress took a courageous stand and walked out of the hall in the middle of the annual American Music Awards. What was the reason for her action? She had become increasingly upset and disillusioned by the foul language used and the questionable comments made, as well as the behavior of the presenters and participants. She said the evening was an insult and humiliation to anyone with the slightest bit of self-respect.
Tragically, foul language was also common in Paul’s day. He warned the Christians in Ephesus to put away coarse language or filthy language (Eph. 5:4; Col. 3:8). These expressions and language of their “old life” (1 Cor. 6:9-11) no longer fit their new identity in Jesus Christ. Instead of foul language, these new Christians’ speech was to be characterized by wholesome words. These words would also “benefit the hearers” (Eph. 4:29). The Holy Spirit would help them to guard their language and to use words that could be a blessing to others (John 16:7-13). We are called to live in such a way that we reflect Jesus, and especially through our words. May our words always testify of gratitude and be a blessing to others!
Our words always give definite clues
Whether our life is new, and our actions.
May the Holy Spirit keep us from sin
So that we may know, the Lord is there!
Foul language is the evidence of an impure heart!

Bible Prophecy in the News
When the Stones Cry Out – Real Places From the Old Testament Unearthed

From the crumbling walls of Jericho to Hezekiah’s secret tunnel and the ancient stronghold of King David, the land of Israel is alive with stories the Bible recorded thousands of years ago and archaeology is confirming them. Each stone, each passage, each artifact tells a story of faith, obedience, and God’s providence in history.
Two-State Solution

The United Nations General Assembly convened on Friday, voting overwhelmingly to support the “New York Declaration,” a resolution outlining “tangible, time-bound and irreversible steps” toward a two-state solution between Israel and the Palestinians, without the involvement of Hamas. While the resolution represents a significant shift in the international approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which for the first time, the UN explicitly condemns Hamas’s October 7, 2023, terrorist attack while simultaneously demanding the terror organization’s complete removal from Gaza’s leadership, Israel rejected the declaration, calling it a prize for the terrorist organization.
The United Nations General Assembly’s overwhelming endorsement of a resolution calling for Palestinian statehood represents a deeply misguided approach that rewards terrorism and undermines genuine prospects for peace. With 142 countries voting in favor of this non-binding declaration, the international community has once again demonstrated its willingness to ignore the fundamental realities on the ground and hand Hamas a strategic victory.
The declaration states that the war must end and Hamas must disarm and submit to the Palestinian Authority, which will run the Palestinian state.
The Two-State Solution would create an unprecedented militarized Arab state inside Israel’s borders, ethnically cleansed of Jews, with its capital in an exclusively Muslim Jerusalem. This would require a return to the ceasefire lines drawn up after the defensive 1967 Six-Day War that are considered to be indefensible against an Arab threat. The UN resolution violates the Oslo Accords which require any resolution concerning Judea and Samaria to be the result of bilateral negotiations between Israel and the Palestinians.

“Charlie Sent Me”: Thousands Return To Church After Kirk’s Death

The shocking assassination of Charlie Kirk at Utah University has done more than rattle a nation-it has jolted thousands awake. Suddenly, questions of eternity, purpose, and truth are not just whispered-they’re shouted. And this Sunday, America saw something few expected: revival.
Across the country, churches overflowed. Sanctuaries were bursting, parking lots jammed, pastors left astonished as people poured in. While no one can yet count how many new faces walked through those doors, social media painted a vivid picture: it was thousands. And they weren’t there out of curiosity alone. They came for something deeper. They came to honor Charlie Kirk in the best way possible-by turning their hearts toward the God Charlie proclaimed.
What a legacy. Even in death, Charlie has accomplished what he prayed for in life: a generation shaken free from apathy, searching for hope, and daring to believe again in the God who changes lives.
Social Media Tells the Story
The testimonies are staggering. In the days following Kirk’s death, post after post revealed lives being redirected, hearts being stirred, and souls confessing their need for God.
“It’s been about 15 years since I’ve been to church and actually meant it. With what happened to Charlie Kirk, his image and message has reached me and I have made the decision that I am going back to church to find Jesus.”
“Multiple coworkers I talked with today said that, after seeing videos of the assassination on Wednesday, they are convicted to start going back to church on Sunday. This is part of Charlie Kirk’s legacy.”
“This man, in his death, has given me some kind of spiritual propellant into Christianity. I’ve never owned a Bible, but I am literally about to buy one.”
“My first day going to church is this coming Sunday and I’ll be bringing my kids.”
“Born Christian, turned Atheist around 10 years ago. For the first time in that long I prayed… I’m going to church soon to get back in touch with our Father. Charlie’s offered me another chance to renew my faith.”
PASTOR DIRK SAYS
Yes there are a shocking Movement in the Christian Ranks after this Public Murder . But this Move is in the Wrong Direction . Like the FULL Trump Administration . Fruitful No More: The Spiritual Roots Of Our Global Birth Rate Crisis

We are living through a quiet but devastating crisis – one not measured in wars or famines, but in the absence of children. Across much of the world, and especially in nations that once stood proudly on Christian foundations, birth rates have fallen far below the level needed to sustain society.

Rosh Hashanah 2025
Rosh Hashanah is a two-day observance and celebration that begins on the first day of Tishrei, which is the seventh month of the ecclesiastical year. The holiday itself follows a lunar calendar and begins the evening prior to the first day. In contrast to the ecclesiastical lunar new year on the first day of the first month Nisan, the spring Passover month which marks Israel’s exodus from Egypt, Rosh Hashanah marks the beginning of the civil year, according to the teachings of Judaism, and is the traditional anniversary of the creation of Adam and Eve, the first man and woman according to the Hebrew Bible, as well as the initiation of humanity’s role in God’s world.

Gospel of Luke. The Gospel of Matthew places Jesus’ birth in the time of Herod I. This is affirmed by the Gospel of Luke (1:5–31), but it subsequently correlates the birth with the census (2:1–5): In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered.
The Census in Luke
- Luke’s Account: According to the Gospel of Luke, Caesar Augustus decreed a census that required everyone to return to their hometown for registration. Joseph and his pregnant wife Mary traveled from Nazareth to Bethlehem, where Jesus was born
What time of year was the census taken in Bethlehem?
Generally a census would take place after the harvest season, around 22 Sept – 24 Sept during Rosh Hashanah when it would not seriously affect the economy, the weather was good and the roads were still dry enough to allow easy travel… Luke’s account of the census argues strongly against a December date for The Messiah’s birth

As the month of Elul draws to a close and we stand on the threshold of Rosh Hashanah, the Torah portion of Nitzavim (Deuteronomy 29:9–30:20) arrives with perfect timing.
What will Happen this year During Rosh Hashanah to Israel and their Enemies?
Yes, the National Security Council of Israel issues advisories recommending increased security measures during periods like Rosh Hashanah. While specific advisories for Rosh Hashanah 2025 are not available yet, the historical context and a recent increase in threats suggests a heightened state of alert is probable.
Here’s why:
- Official Advisories: The National Security Council of Israel (NSC) issues travel warnings and often recommends increased precautionary measures, especially during holidays and periods of heightened tension.
- Increased Threats: Recent terrorist attacks, such as the one in Jerusalem on September 8, 2025, underscore the daily threats Israel faces. The World Jewish Congress notes that the “same hatred that fueled the October 7 massacre has not gone away,” emphasizing the need for vigilance and the continued efforts of Israel’s security services.
- Holiday Significance: Holidays are often targets for attacks due to the high concentration of people. Therefore, security services are expected to increase their efforts and alert status.
