The 25th of December is not the Real Birth Day of Jesus
Christmas is not the Birthday of Jesus , It started as a Saint Nicholas Day – The Truth about XMAS – Throughout history, many legends about Saint Nicholas have circulated around the world, bringing us the character we know today as Santa Claus. But who was the man behind the fictional character of Santa Claus?
Nicholas was born in the third century in the Roman Empire’s province of Lycia in modern Turkiye (Turkey). According to tradition, he was a man full of generosity and conviction. He was born to wealthy parents who left him their fortune when they died. Instead of squandering his inheritance on himself, he used it to help those in need. He even exposed a corrupt government official who hoarded grain to push its price higher.
While many have preserved stories of Nicholas’ righteous acts, few know of his sufferings for Christ.
Sometime after the Roman emperor Diocletian took power in A.D. 284, he instigated a horrific persecution of Christians. Nicholas was imprisoned for refusing to deny Jesus as God. According to Eusebius’ Church History, an edict ordered all church leaders arrested. Prisons were so full of Christians that there was no room for actual criminals. Diocletian destroyed churches and burned Scriptures, and the killing of Christians became a form of entertainment for the Romans.
Diocletian aimed to finish off the church for good, but the courage of believers martyred for their witness had caused many others to place their faith in Christ. Having failed, Diocletian abdicated the throne in A.D. 305. According to one source, he returned home to be a cabbage farmer.
Nicholas was released from prison and is believed to have died around A.D. 343, on December 6, a date that is celebrated today as “Saint Nicholas Day” in nations such as Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

What is the real date of the Birth of Jesus?
History convincingly shows that December 25 was popularized as the date for Christmas, not because Christ was born on that day but because it was already popular in pagan religious celebrations as the birthday of the sun.
The biblical accounts point to the fall of the year as the most likely time of Jesus’ birth.
But is it possible that December 25 could be the day of Christ’s birth?
“Lacking any scriptural pointers to Jesus’s birthday, early Christian teachers suggested dates all over the calendar. Clement… picked November 18. Hippolytus … figured Christ must have been born on a Wednesday … An anonymous document[,] believed to have been written in North Africa around A.D. 243, placed Jesus’s birth on March 28” (Jeffery Sheler, U.S. News & World Report, “In Search of Christmas,” Dec. 23, 1996, p. 58).
A careful analysis of Scripture, however, clearly indicates that December 25 is an unlikely date for Christ’s birth. Here are two primary reasons:
- We know that shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:7-8).
Shepherds were not in the fields during December. According to Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, Luke’s account “suggests that Jesus may have been born in summer or early fall. Since December is cold and rainy in Judea, it is likely the shepherds would have sought shelter for their flocks at night” (p. 309).
Similarly, The Interpreter’s One-Volume Commentary says this passage argues “against the birth [of Christ] occurring on Dec. 25 since the weather would not have permitted” shepherds watching over their flocks in the fields at night. - Jesus’ parents came to Bethlehem to register in a Roman census (Luke 2:1-4).
Such censuses were not taken in winter, when temperatures often dropped below freezing and roads were in poor condition. Taking a census under such conditions would have been self-defeating.
Given the difficulties and the desire to bring pagans into Christianity, “the important fact then … to get clearly into your head is that the fixing of the date as December 25th was a compromise with paganism” (William Walsh, The Story of Santa Klaus, 1970, p. 62).
Did Jesus Christ birth occur on December 25th? Can we even know when Christ was born? Should we really be celebrating His birth?
If Jesus Christ wasn’t born on December 25, does the Bible indicate when He was born?
The biblical accounts point to the fall of the year as the most likely time of Jesus’ birth, based on the conception and birth of John the Baptist.
Since Elizabeth (John’s mother) was in her sixth month of pregnancy when Jesus was conceived (Luke 1:24-36), we can determine the approximate time of year Jesus was born if we know when John was born. John’s father, Zacharias, was a priest serving in the Jerusalem temple during the course of Abijah (Luke 1:5). Historical calculations indicate this course of service corresponded to June 13-19 in that year ( The Companion Bible, 1974, Appendix 179, p. 200).
It was during this time of temple service that Zacharias learned that he and his wife Elizabeth would have a child (Luke 1:8-13). After he completed his service and traveled home, Elizabeth conceived (Luke 1:23-24). Assuming John’s conception took place near the end of June, adding nine months brings us to the end of March as the most likely time for John’s birth. Adding another six months (the difference in ages between John and Jesus) brings us to the end of September as the likely time of Jesus’ birth. ‘n Ruk nadat die Romeinse keiser Diocletianus in 284 n.C. aan bewind gekom het, het hy ‘n verskriklike vervolging van Christene aangehits. Nikolaas is gevange geneem omdat hy geweier het om Jesus as God te ontken. Volgens Eusebius se Kerkgeskiedenis het ‘n edik gelas dat alle kerkleiers in hegtenis geneem word. Gevangenisse was so vol Christene dat daar geen plek vir werklike misdadigers was nie. Diocletianus het kerke vernietig en Skrifte verbrand, en die doodmaak van Christene het ‘n vorm van vermaak vir die Romeine geword.
Diocletianus het ten doel gehad om die kerk finaal uit te roei, maar die moed van gelowiges wat vir hul getuienis gemartel is, het veroorsaak dat baie ander hul geloof in Christus geplaas het. Nadat hy misluk het, het Diocletianus in 305 n.C. die troon geabdikeer. Volgens een bron het hy huis toe teruggekeer om ‘n koolboer te word.
Nikolaas is uit die tronk vrygelaat en daar word geglo dat hy omstreeks 343 n.C. op 6 Desember gesterf het, ‘n datum wat vandag as “Sint Nikolaasdag” in lande soos Duitsland, Switserland en Nederland gevier word.
GELUKKIGE VERJAARSDAG JESUS – 23 SEPTEMBER
Wat is die werklike datum van die geboorte van Jesus?
Die geskiedenis toon oortuigend dat 25 Desember as die datum vir Kersfees gewild gemaak is, nie omdat Christus op daardie dag gebore is nie, maar omdat dit reeds gewild was in heidense godsdienstige vieringe as die geboortedag van die son.
Die Bybelse verslae dui op die herfs van die jaar as die mees waarskynlike tyd van Jesus se geboorte.
Maar is dit moontlik dat 25 Desember die dag van Christus se geboorte kan wees?
“Sonder enige skriftuurlike aanduidings na Jesus se verjaardag, het vroeë Christelike onderwysers datums regoor die kalender voorgestel. Klemens … het 18 November gekies. Hippolytus … het gereken dat Christus op ‘n Woensdag gebore moes gewees het … ‘n Anonieme dokument wat glo in Noord-Afrika omstreeks 243 n.C. geskryf is, het Jesus se geboorte op 28 Maart geplaas” (Jeffery Sheler, U.S. News & World Report, “In Search of Christmas,” 23 Desember 1996, bl. 58).
‘n Noukeurige ontleding van die Skrif dui egter duidelik daarop dat 25 Desember ‘n onwaarskynlike datum vir Christus se geboorte is. Hier is twee primêre redes:
Ons weet dat herders in die velde was om hul kuddes op te pas tydens Jesus se geboorte (Lukas 2:7-8).
Herders was nie gedurende Desember in die velde nie. Volgens Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, dui Lukas se verslag “op dat Jesus moontlik in die somer of vroeë herfs gebore is. Jesus se ouers het na Betlehem gekom om in ‘n Romeinse sensus te registreer (Lukas 2:1-4).
Sulke sensusse is nie in die winter geneem nie, toe temperature dikwels onder vriespunt gedaal het en paaie in ‘n swak toestand was. Om ‘n sensus onder sulke toestande te neem, sou selfvernietigend gewees het.
Gegewe die probleme en die begeerte om heidene tot die Christendom te bring, “is die belangrike feit dan … om duidelik in jou kop te kry dat die vasstelling van die datum as 25 Desember ‘n kompromie met heidendom was” (William Walsh, The Story of Santa Klaus, 1970, bl. 62).

As Jesus Christus nie op 25 Desember gebore is nie, dui die Bybel aan wanneer Hy gebore is?
Die Bybelse verslae wys na die herfs van die jaar as die mees waarskynlike tyd van Jesus se geboorte, gebaseer op die bevrugting en geboorte van Johannes die Doper.
Aangesien Elizabeth (Johannes se moeder) in haar sesde maand van swangerskap was toe Jesus verwek is (Lukas 1:24-36), kan ons die benaderde tyd van die jaar bepaal wanneer Jesus gebore is as ons weet wanneer Johannes gebore is. Pastoor Dirk bevestig dat die 23ste September die werklike geboortedatum van Jesus Christus, sy Verlosser, is, want groot dinge gebeur elke jaar op die 23ste September in Israel!
Jesus het nooit in die woord (die Bybel) genoem dat ons sy verjaarsdag moet vier nie! Maar dis menslik om die geboortedatum van diegene vir wie ons lief is, te vier! So gelukkige verjaarsdag Jesus!

This September, the world will take one more dangerous step toward disaster. The Beginning of the LAST DAYS
At the United Nations General Assembly, a growing coalition of nations—once counted as friends of Israel—will formally push to recognize a Palestinian state. Canada. France. The United Kingdom. Nations who once stood against terrorism are now preparing to reward it with legitimacy, flags, and U.N. seats.
Make no mistake: this is not about peace. It’s about power. It’s about appeasing an ideology that has raised its children to hate Jews and murder Israelis. And it’s about something even more sobering for believers: this is another step to fulfilling bible prophecy.
The Major Powers Behind the Push
France, co-chairing a UN summit with Saudi Arabia, has confirmed it will recognize a Palestinian state this September. Canada—once a bold ally of Israel—has caved under pressure, linking recognition to vague “reforms” within the Palestinian Authority. And the UK has issued an ultimatum: either Israel halts its operations in Gaza and abandons future annexation efforts, or London will proceed with recognition.
These decisions are not occurring in isolation. Ireland, Norway, Spain, Slovenia, and others joined the chorus in 2024. By this fall, more than 147 of the 193 UN member states will recognize a Palestinian state—roughly 75% of the global community.
In other words, the world is uniting to divide the land of Israel.
Dividing the Land = Defying the Lord
For those who take the Word of God seriously, this is no small diplomatic debate. Scripture warns—repeatedly—that dividing the land of Israel is a direct provocation against God’s purposes.
“I will gather all nations and bring them down to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. There I will put them on trial for… dividing up my land.” —Joel 3:2
“On that day I will make Jerusalem a burdensome stone for all people… and all who try to lift it will hurt themselves.” —Zechariah 12:3
In their rush to impose a “solution,” the nations are sowing the seeds of divine wrath. They believe they are peacemakers, but in reality, they are playing with fire—eternal fire.
This international movement eerily resembles the prophesied global alignment against Jerusalem. And though the final chapter of history has not yet arrived, we are watching the table being set.
Practical and Moral Dangers of a Palestinian State
This is not just spiritually reckless—it’s politically insane. Here are five reasons why the creation of a Palestinian state in today’s conditions will only lead to more violence, not peace:
1. A Generation Taught to Hate
The Palestinian Authority has spent decades glorifying violence, naming schools after terrorists, and broadcasting genocidal messages on state-run media. The children of Gaza and the West Bank have not been raised for peace—they’ve been raised for martyrdom. Creating a state under this education system is not justice. It is state-sponsored hatred.
2. Terrorism Will Get Closer, Not Further
After Israel withdrew from Gaza in 2005, it got rockets in return. Do we really believe that creating a terror state right next to Jerusalem will bring quiet? Recognition will embolden radicals, not restrain them. The frontline will move from the border to the bedroom communities of Tel Aviv.
3. The Palestinian Authority Pays Killers
Yes, you read that right. The PA operates a “pay for slay” policy—giving monthly stipends to the families of terrorists who kill Jews. This isn’t just an evil practice—it’s taxpayer-funded jihad. And yet the West is rushing to bless this regime with full statehood.
4. The West Is Rewarding Bloodshed
Hamas attacked Israel on October 7, 2023, slaughtering 1,200 people and kidnapping over 250. In response, what has the international community done? Sanctioned Israel. Condemned its defense. And now, rewarded the ideology that made those attacks possible by granting its supporters the keys to a nation.
5. No Real Difference Between PA and Hamas
Let’s be clear: while Hamas fires the rockets, the Palestinian Authority writes the checks and cheers from the sidelines. The ideological difference is minimal. Both parties reject the Jewish state’s right to exist. Both promote “return” fantasies that mean the destruction of Israel. Recognition won’t elevate moderates—it will hand radicals a microphone.
6. Jerusalem Will Be the Next Battleground
A recognized Palestinian state will not be satisfied with the West Bank. The heart of their campaign has always been Jerusalem—particularly East Jerusalem and the Temple Mount. Once statehood is secured, international pressure will mount to divide the Holy City. That, according to Zechariah 14, is the line God Himself will not allow the nations to cross without consequences.
The Clock Is Ticking
We are living in days of global deception. What is being sold as “peace” is in fact the reward of terrorism. What is being presented as diplomacy is, in truth, a direct challenge to God’s covenant with Israel.
The nations of the earth may gather to vote, legislate, and divide—but the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob will not be mocked. His promises still stand. And those who seek to divide what He has declared indivisible will find themselves facing something far more fearsome than public opinion: the judgment of the Lord of Hosts.
Let the Church be watchful. Let the people of God be vocal. And let every believer remember: the fate of nations is not determined in the United Nations—but in the throne room of Heaven.

Die Groot Moondhede Agter die Druk
Frankryk, wat medevoorsitter is van ‘n VN-beraad met Saoedi-Arabië, het bevestig dat hulle hierdie September ‘n Palestynse staat sal erken. Kanada – eens ‘n dapper bondgenoot van Israel – het onder druk geswig en erkenning gekoppel aan vae “hervormings” binne die Palestynse Owerheid. En die Verenigde Koninkryk het ‘n ultimatum gestel: óf Israel staak sy operasies in Gaza en laat vaar toekomstige anneksasiepogings, óf Londen sal voortgaan met erkenning.
Hierdie besluite vind nie in isolasie plaas nie. Ierland, Noorweë, Spanje, Slowenië en ander het in 2024 by die koor aangesluit. Teen hierdie herfs sal meer as 147 van die 193 VN-lidstate ‘n Palestynse staat erken – ongeveer 75% van die wêreldgemeenskap.

Verdeling van die Land = Tart die Here
Vir diegene wat die Woord van God ernstig opneem, is dit geen geringe diplomatieke debat nie. Die Skrif waarsku – herhaaldelik – dat die verdeling van die land van Israel ‘n direkte provokasie teen God se voornemens is.

“Op daardie dag sal Ek Jerusalem ‘n swaar klip maak vir al die volke… en almal wat dit probeer optel, sal hulself seermaak.” —Sagaria 12:3
In hul haas om ‘n “oplossing” op te lê, saai die nasies die saad van goddelike toorn. Hulle glo hulle is vredemakers, maar in werklikheid speel hulle met vuur – ewige vuur.
Hierdie internasionale beweging lyk griezelig na die geprofeteerde wêreldwye belyning teen Jerusalem. En hoewel die laaste hoofstuk van die geskiedenis nog nie aangebreek het nie, kyk ons hoe die tafel gedek word.
Praktiese en Morele Gevare van ‘n Palestynse Staat
Dit is nie net geestelik roekeloos nie—dit is polities waansinnig. Hier is vyf redes waarom die skepping van ‘n Palestynse staat in vandag se omstandighede slegs tot meer geweld sal lei, nie tot vrede nie:
- ‘n Generasie wat geleer word om te haat
Die Palestynse Owerheid het dekades lank geweld verheerlik, skole na terroriste vernoem en volksmoordboodskappe op staatsbeheerde media uitgesaai. Die kinders van Gaza en die Wesoewer is nie vir vrede grootgemaak nie—hulle is vir martelaarskap grootgemaak. Die skep van ‘n staat onder hierdie onderwysstelsel is nie geregtigheid nie. Dit is staatsgeborgde haat.
- Terrorisme Sal Nader Kom, Nie Verder Nie
Nadat Israel in 2005 uit Gaza onttrek het, het hulle vuurpyle in ruil daarvoor gekry. Glo ons werklik dat die skep van ‘n terreurstaat reg langs Jerusalem stilte sal bring? Erkenning sal radikale versterk, nie beperk nie. Die frontlinie sal van die grens na die slaapkamergemeenskappe van Tel Aviv beweeg.
- Die Palestynse Owerheid Betaal Moordenaars
Ja, jy het reg gelees. Die PA bedryf ‘n “betaal vir doodmaak”-beleid – wat maandelikse toelaes gee aan die families van terroriste wat Jode doodmaak. Dit is nie net ‘n bose praktyk nie – dit is belastingbetaler-befondsde jihad. En tog jaag die Weste om hierdie regime met volle staatskap te seën.

Hamas het Israel op 7 Oktober 2023 aangeval, 1 200 mense afgeslag en meer as 250 ontvoer. Wat het die internasionale gemeenskap in reaksie hierop gedoen? Israel gesanksioneer. Sy verdediging veroordeel. En nou die ideologie wat daardie aanvalle moontlik gemaak het, beloon deur sy ondersteuners die sleutels tot ‘n nasie te gee.

Kom ons wees duidelik: terwyl Hamas die vuurpyle afvuur, skryf die Palestynse Owerheid die tjeks en juig van die kantlyn af. Die ideologiese verskil is minimaal. Beide partye verwerp die Joodse staat se reg om te bestaan. Beide bevorder “terugkeer”-fantasieë wat die vernietiging van Israel beteken. Erkenning sal nie gematigdes verhef nie – dit sal radikale ‘n mikrofoon gee.

’n Erkende Palestynse staat sal nie tevrede wees met die Wesoewer nie. Die kern van hul veldtog was nog altyd Jerusalem—veral Oos-Jerusalem en die Tempelberg. Sodra staatskap verseker is, sal internasionale druk toeneem om die Heilige Stad te verdeel. Dit, volgens Sagaria 14, is die lyn wat God self nie sal toelaat dat die nasies sonder gevolge oorsteek nie.
Die Horlosie Tik
Ons leef in dae van wêreldwye misleiding. Wat as “vrede” verkoop word, is in werklikheid die beloning van terrorisme. Wat as diplomasie aangebied word, is in werklikheid ‘n direkte uitdaging aan God se verbond met Israel.
Die nasies van die aarde mag bymekaarkom om te stem, wetgewing te maak en te verdeel—maar die God van Abraham, Isak en Jakob sal nie bespot word nie. Sy beloftes staan steeds. En diegene wat probeer om te verdeel wat Hy ondeelbaar verklaar het, sal hulself in die gesig staar met iets veel meer vreesaanjaends as die openbare mening: die oordeel van die Here van die Leërskare.
Laat die Kerk waaksaam wees. Laat die volk van God hardop wees. En laat elke gelowige onthou: die lot van nasies word nie in die Verenigde Nasies bepaal nie—maar in die troonkamer van die Hemel.
Die 80ste sitting van die Verenigde Nasies se Algemene Vergadering (UNGA 80) sal op 9 September 2025 open, met die Algemene Debat wat op 23 September 2025 by die VN-hoofkwartier in New York begin. Hierdie jaarlikse geleentheid dien as ‘n sleutelforum vir al 193 lidstate om globale kwessies te bespreek en internasionale beleide te ontwikkel.
Today’s Devotional
The doctrine of the virgin birth teaches that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. That is, when Mary conceived Jesus, she had never had sexual intercourse. Jesus’ birth, therefore, was truly miraculous. The virgin birth of Jesus is a crucially important doctrine and one that the Bible plainly teaches in Matthew 1:23 and Luke 1:27, 34.
Let’s look at how Scripture describes the virgin birth. The angel Gabriel visits the Virgin Mary to bring her the news that she would be the mother of the Messiah. Mary asks, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:34, ESV). Gabriel’s reply indicates the miraculous nature of the conception: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35). The angel points not to any human act but to the Holy Spirit and the power of God as the agency of Jesus’ birth. Jesus would properly be called the Son of God.
Gabriel later repeats the news to Joseph, betrothed to be married to Mary: “What is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20). Joseph needed this information because, “before they came together, [Mary] was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:18). Accepting God’s word on the matter, Joseph proceeded to take Mary as his wife, but she remained a virgin until after Jesus was born: “He did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son” (Matthew 1:25).
The gospel writers are judicious in their wording to maintain the doctrine of the virgin birth. In his genealogy of Jesus, Luke mentions that Jesus was “the son (as was supposed) of Joseph” (Luke 3:23, ESV). In his genealogy, Matthew carefully avoids calling Joseph the father of Jesus; rather, he speaks of “Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah” (Matthew 1:16).
The virgin birth of Jesus Christ was predicted in the Old Testament: “The Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14, quoted in Matthew 1:22). There is also a possible allusion to the virgin birth in Genesis 3:15, which says that the “seed” of “the woman” would destroy the serpent.
The Bible teaches the preexistence of the eternal Son of God. In Isaiah 9:6, the child who is “born” is also the son who is “given.” In like manner, Galatians 4:4 also teaches the preexistence and virgin birth of Christ: “God sent His Son, born of a woman.” The virgin birth is important because that was the means by which “the Word became flesh” (John 1:14). The incarnation is when the eternal Son of God took on human flesh; without losing any of His divine nature, He added a human nature. That miraculous, history-changing event took place in the Virgin Mary’s womb.
In the virgin birth, the immaterial (the Spirit) and the material (Mary’s womb) were both involved. Just as, at creation, “the earth was formless and empty” and dark (Genesis 1:2), Mary’s womb was an empty, barren place. And just as, at creation, “the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” (Genesis 1:2), the Spirit of God came upon Mary (Luke 1:35). Only God can make something out of nothing; only God could perform the miracles of creation, the incarnation, and the virgin birth.
The virgin birth is important in that it preserves the truth that Jesus is fully God and fully man at the same time. His physical body He received from Mary as her biological child. But His eternal, holy nature was His from all eternity past (see John 6:69). Jesus had no sin nature (Hebrews 7:26) and therefore was able to be our perfect substitute (1 Peter 1:19), conquering sin and death once for all (Hebrews 10:10). Not only was He able to take away our sin, but He was tempted in every way that we are, yet without sin. Therefore, He is our perfect sacrifice and also able to empathize with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15). Our God miraculously became man to save us and graciously reveal His love for us.
The virgin birth of Jesus is an example of God’s gracious work on our behalf. God took the initiative—Mary was not looking to become pregnant—it was all God’s idea. Joseph had no role in the conception—his body was not involved—so the power had to come from God. In a similar way, our salvation is based solely on God’s initiative and God’s power—we did not seek God, but He sought us; and we did nothing to earn our salvation, but we rely on God’s power.
Unsurprisingly, Jesus’ enemies among His contemporaries denied His virgin birth. They went so far as to publicly accuse Jesus of being a Samaritan, i.e., a person of mixed race (John 8:48). Those today who would deny the virgin birth contradict the clear teaching of Scripture, call into question other miracles recorded in the Bible, and open the door to a denial of Christ’s full deity or His full humanity.

Kom ons kyk na hoe die Skrif die maagdelike geboorte beskryf. Die engel Gabriël besoek die Maagd Maria om haar die nuus te bring dat sy die moeder van die Messias sou wees. Gabriël herhaal later die nuus aan Josef, wat aan Maria verloof sou wees: “Wat in haar verwek is, is uit die Heilige Gees” (Matteus 1:20). Josef het hierdie inligting nodig gehad omdat “voordat hulle saamgekom het, [Maria] swanger bevind is deur die Heilige Gees” (Matteus 1:18). Josef het God se woord oor die saak aanvaar en Maria as sy vrou geneem, maar sy het ‘n maagd gebly tot nadat Jesus gebore is: “Hy het hulle huwelik nie voltrek totdat sy ‘n seun gebaar het nie” (Matteus 1:25).
Die evangelieskrywers is oordeelkundig in hul bewoording om die leerstelling van die maagdelike geboorte te handhaaf. In sy geslagsregister van Jesus noem Lukas dat Jesus “die seun (soos veronderstel is) van Josef” was (Lukas 3:23). In sy geslagsregister vermy Matteus versigtig om Josef die vader van Jesus te noem; hy praat eerder van “Jakob, die vader van Josef, die man van Maria, en Maria was die moeder van Jesus wat die Messias genoem word” (Matteus 1:16).
Die maagdelike geboorte van Jesus Christus is in die Ou Testament voorspel: “Die Here self sal julle ‘n teken gee: die maagd sal swanger word en ‘n seun baar en hom Immanuel noem” (Jesaja 7:14, aangehaal in Matteus 1:22). Daar is ook ‘n moontlike verwysing na die maagdelike geboorte in Genesis 3:15, wat sê dat die “saad” van “die vrou” die slang sou vernietig.
Die Bybel leer die voorbestaan van die ewige Seun van God. In Jesaja 9:6 is die kind wat “gebore” word, ook die seun wat “gegee” word. Net so leer Galasiërs 4:4 ook die voorbestaan en maagdelike geboorte van Christus: “God het sy Seun gestuur, gebore uit ‘n vrou.” Die maagdelike geboorte is belangrik omdat dit die middel was waardeur “die Woord vlees geword het” (Johannes 1:14). Die inkarnasie is toe die ewige Seun van God menslike vlees aangeneem het; sonder om enige van Sy goddelike natuur te verloor, het Hy ‘n menslike natuur bygevoeg. Daardie wonderbaarlike, geskiedenisveranderende gebeurtenis het in die Maagd Maria se skoot plaasgevind.
In die maagdelike geboorte was beide die onstoflike (die Gees) en die materiële (Maria se baarmoeder) betrokke. Net soos, tydens die skepping, “die aarde vormloos en leeg” en donker was (Genesis 1:2), was Maria se baarmoeder ‘n leë, dorre plek. En net soos, tydens die skepping, “die Gees van God oor die waters gesweef het” (Genesis 1:2), het die Gees van God oor Maria gekom (Lukas 1:35). Slegs God kan iets uit niks maak; slegs God kon die wonderwerke van die skepping, die inkarnasie en die maagdelike geboorte verrig.
Die maagdelike geboorte is belangrik omdat dit die waarheid bewaar dat Jesus ten volle God en ten volle mens is. Sy fisiese liggaam het Hy van Maria as haar biologiese kind ontvang. Maar Sy ewige, heilige natuur was Syne van alle ewigheid af (sien Johannes 6:69). Jesus het geen sondige natuur gehad nie (Hebreërs 7:26) en kon daarom ons perfekte plaasvervanger wees (1 Petrus 1:19), wat sonde en dood eens en vir altyd oorwin het (Hebreërs 10:10). Hy was nie net in staat om ons sonde weg te neem nie, maar Hy was ook versoek in elke opsig soos ons, maar sonder sonde. Daarom is Hy ons perfekte offer en ook in staat om met ons swakhede te empatie (Hebreërs 4:15). Ons God het wonderbaarlik mens geword om ons te red en genadiglik Sy liefde vir ons te openbaar.
Die maagdelike geboorte van Jesus is ‘n voorbeeld van God se genadige werk namens ons. God het die inisiatief geneem—Maria wou nie swanger raak nie—dit was alles God se idee. Josef het geen rol in die bevrugting gehad nie—sy liggaam was nie betrokke nie—so die krag moes van God kom. Op ‘n soortgelyke manier is ons verlossing uitsluitlik gebaseer op God se inisiatief en God se krag—ons het God nie gesoek nie, maar Hy het ons gesoek; en ons het niks gedoen om ons verlossing te verdien nie, maar ons vertrou op God se krag.
Dit is geen verrassing dat Jesus se vyande onder Sy tydgenote Sy maagdelike geboorte ontken het nie. Hulle het selfs in die openbaar Jesus daarvan beskuldig dat hy ‘n Samaritaan is, d.w.s. ‘n persoon van gemengde ras (Johannes 8:48). Diegene wat vandag die maagdelike geboorte sou ontken, weerspreek die duidelike leer van die Skrif, trek ander wonderwerke wat in die Bybel opgeteken is, in twyfel en maak die deur oop vir ‘n ontkenning van Christus se volle goddelikheid of Sy volle menslikheid.

Onlangs het iemand ń moeilike vraag aan my gestel: ” Wat is die langste tydperk wat jy kon deurgaan sonder om te sondig ? Ń week, ń dag, ń uur ? Hoe kan ons so ń vraag beantwoord ? Ons wil nie hê dat vers 10 waar van ons moet wees nie. As ons nie beweer dat ons nie gesondig het nie, maak ons Hom tot leuenaar en is sy woord nie in ons nie.
Ń meer bemoedigende vraag is: Wat is God se reaksie op ons skuldbelydenis ? Die antwoord: As ons ons sondes bely – Hy is getrou en regverdig … en hy vergewe ons ( vs 9 ). Jesus het ons sondes op Homself geneem deur te sterf en uit die dood op te staan. Dis waarom Hy vir ons ń rein hart kan skep ( Ps 51:12 ).
Christus se vergifnes is die deur tot ń nuwe begin !
Overcomer of Sin:
Someone recently asked me a difficult question: “What is the longest period of time you have gone without sinning? A week, a day, an hour? How can we answer such a question? If we are honest, we may say: I cannot live a day without sinning. Or perhaps as we look back over the past week, we may discover that we have not confessed a single sin to God. But we would be deceiving ourselves if we thought that we had not sinned in thought or deed all week.
God knows our hearts and knows whether we are sensitive to the convicting power of the Holy Spirit. If we know ourselves, we will take to heart 1 John 1:8: If we claim to have no sin. We do not want verse 10 to be true of us. If we do not claim to have no sin, we make him a liar and his word is not in us.
A more encouraging question is: What is God? What is God’s response to our confession of sin? The answer: If we confess our sins – He is faithful and just … and will forgive us (vs 9). Jesus took our sins upon Himself by dying and rising from the dead. That is why He can create for us a clean heart (Ps 51:12).
Christ’s forgiveness is the door to a new beginning!

Turkey and Egypt holding massive joint naval drill encircling Israel
The Israeli Navy has increased patrols along its Mediterranean coastline and deployed reconnaissance aircraft to monitor the exercise in real time.
In a move that has stirred Israel’s unease, Turkey and Egypt are launching their first joint naval exercise in over a decade, staging a large-scale operation in the Eastern Mediterranean that effectively encircles Israel from both the north and south.
The drill, dubbed “Sea of Friendship,” runs from September 22 to 26, 2025, and includes a formidable array of military assets.
Turkey has deployed frigates TCG Oruçreis and TCG Gediz, patrol boats Imbat and Bora, the submarine TCG Gür, and F-16 fighter jets.
Egypt’s contribution includes its flagship ENS Tahya Misr and the Fouad Zekry, among other vessels.
Officially, the exercise is described as a step toward enhancing bilateral relations and improving mutual operability between the two nations.
However, its timing—just weeks after Israel intensified its military operations in Gaza—has led analysts to interpret it as a strategic signal.
Both Ankara and Cairo have publicly criticized Israel’s actions in Gaza, and their joint maneuver is widely seen as a show of regional alignment against Israel.
The location of the drill is particularly significant.
By spanning waters off Egypt’s northern coast and Turkey’s southern flank, the exercise places Israeli naval routes within a zone of heightened surveillance and potential pressure.
High-level observers from both navies attended the operation, underscoring the seriousness of the coordination and hinting at the possibility of deeper strategic ties between the two countries.
Israel has responded to the joint Egypt–Turkey naval drill with heightened vigilance and strategic recalibration.

Saudi Arabia warns Israel over annexation of Judea and Samaria
Such a move could also threaten the Abraham Accords, Israel’s normalization agreements with several Arab states.
Saudi Arabia has warned Israel that annexing any part of Judea and Samaria would carry “major implications in all fields,” Israeli media reported Sunday.
The warning coincided with a wave of new recognitions of a Palestinian state, with Portugal, the United Kingdom, Canada, and Australia all declaring support within the same day.
Riyadh did not specify what measures it might take, but Israeli officials believe normalization talks could collapse and Saudi airspace, first opened in 2022, could once again be closed to Israeli flights.
Such a move could also threaten the Abraham Accords, Israel’s normalization agreements with several Arab states.
Sources close to US President Donald Trump signaled that Washington does not favor annexation. “It’s the last thing they need,” one source said, citing already heightened tensions following Israel’s September 9 strike on Hamas leaders in Qatar.
Saudi officials are expected to meet Trump on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly this week, alongside leaders from the UAE, Qatar, Jordan, Egypt, and Turkey, to discuss the war in Gaza and postwar scenarios.
Trump will also hold a separate session with Gulf leaders focused on the Qatar strike.
In Jerusalem, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu convened ministers to discuss how Israel should respond to the surge of international recognition.
Options included reclassifying parts of Judea and Samaria to expand Israeli authority and closing consulates of states that back a Palestinian state, particularly France.
Netanyahu, together with Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer, stressed the need for close coordination with Washington. “No decision will be made until after my meeting with President Trump next week,” Netanyahu said in a video statement.
European diplomats urged restraint, warning that annexation would be seen as “collective punishment” and could jeopardize existing regional agreements. “We will not take annexation lying down,” one senior European official told Israel.

Iran tests new intercontinental missile, warns of ‘deadly’ response to foreign intervention
Iran reportedly tests advanced new missiles, threatens to use “deadly” force against its enemies.
Iran threatened to use “deadly” force should its enemies take action against it, following secret missile tests which an Iranian lawmaker claimed featured a new intercontinental missile.
On Sunday, Iran’s paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued an ominous statement, vowing to respond with force to any attack.
“If the enemy makes mistakes, Iran’s hand will be on top,” the IRGC said. “Iran will seize the initiative on the battlefield and respond in a deadly and instructive way once again.”
Just days earlier Iran is said to have conducted missile tests outside of Tehran.
Mohsen Zanganeh, a member of the Iranian parliament, told state media on Saturday that the recent tests included “advanced missiles” which have never been used before.
“Two nights ago, we tested one of the most advanced missiles in the country, a missile that had never been tested before, and the test was successful,” Zanganeh said.
“I mean, even under the current circumstances, we are conducting what’s essentially a security test of an intercontinental missile.”
Zanganeh emphasized that the test was conducted despite pressure from the United States on Iran to drop its ballistic missile program, and amid “tensions with Israel.”
The reports of missile tests come as the United Nations and European powers moved to restore sanctions on Iran which had been lifted under the 2015 nuclear deal.
Last month, the UK, France, and Germany triggered snapback sanctions on Iran, citing Tehran’s refusal to abide by the terms of the 2015 deal.
Separately, United Nations sanctions are set to automatically snapback after the Security Council failed Friday and Saturday to pass resolutions extending the sanctions relief.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian responded to the impending restoration of sanctions, which are slated to return in force at the end of this week.
