Every believer has, at one time or another, lamented his or her inability to stop sinning. While we tend to think the problem stems from weakness in ourselves, the inability to stop sinning usually indicates a deficiency in our understanding of God’s strength. When we do not understand His power to save, forgive, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9), we can get caught in a Destructive cycle of sin, guilt, and fear, which leads to a lack of joy in our salvation, which leads to more sin.
In Psalm 51:12, David pleads with God, “Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.” He wrote this after he had fallen into the grievous sins of adultery and murder. It is interesting to notice that he asks God for a return of the joy of his salvation. Joy is key in our victory over sin. It is also important that we understand that God sustains us “with a willing spirit.” God takes joy in saving us, and we take joy in being saved.
God has saved us willingly, to display His grace, love, and strength. Our salvation does not depend on how much or how little we sin, how much or how little we evangelize or repent or do good works, how loving or unloving we are, or anything else about us. Our salvation is entirely a product of God’s grace, love, and purpose (Ephesians 2:8–9). This is important to understand, because (ironically) believing that we are responsible to keep the law leads inevitably to the inability to stop sinning.
Paul explains this in Romans 7:7–10. When we understand a law, like “do not covet,” our sin nature inevitably rebels against that law, and we covet. This is the plight of man—it is simply how we are. The law aggravates our sin nature. John Bunyan illustrates this truth in The Pilgrim’s Progress. In the Interpreter’s House, Christian sees a very dusty room that had never been swept. First, a man with a broom tries to clean the floor, but the broom’s only effect is to raise choking clouds of dust. The more he sweeps, the more the dust is stirred up; this is a picture of the law, Bunyan says, which cannot clean a sinful heart but only stirs up the sin. However, Christian watches as the broom is set aside and a young girl sprinkles the whole room with water. After that, the room is quickly cleaned; this is a picture of the gospel of grace and its ability to purify the heart. The grace of God can do what the law could never do: cleanse us from sin.
So, the way to stop sinning is not to add more rules. God knew this. In fact, He gave us the law so that we would be aware of our sin and turn to Him (Romans 3:19-20; Galatians 3:23-26). The law is good. It is a reflection of God’s nature and His perfection. But it was not given to us for our salvation. Christ fulfills the law for us (Matthew 5:17).
When we disagree with God and hang onto the idea that we must fulfill the law, we lose our joy in salvation and set ourselves up for failure. We labor under a terrible burden. We feel pressured to do something to secure salvation, but, at the same time, our sin nature renders us unable to obey the law. The more we focus on the law, the more our sin nature rebels. The more our sin nature rebels, the more frightened we become that we are not saved. The more frightened and joyless we become, the more tempting sin’s promise of happiness is.
The only way to break the cycle and stop sinning is to accept the fact that we cannot stop sinning. This may seem contradictory, but if a person does not stop trying to save himself, he will never rest in the knowledge that God has saved him. The joy of salvation comes from accepting the fact that God’s grace covers us, that He will change us and conform us to the image of Christ, and that it is His work, not ours (Romans 8:29; Philippians 1:6; Philippians 2:13; Hebrews 13:20-21). Once this reality is truly grasped, sin loses its power. We no longer feel the impulse to turn to sin as a means of temporary relief from anxiety, because the anxiety and pressure has been relieved once for all by Christ (Hebrews 10:10, 14). Then, the good works we accomplish in faith are done because of love and joy rather than out of fear or duty.
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain” (1 Corinthians 15:56-58, ESV).

In Psalm 51:12 smeek Dawid God: “Gee my die vreugde van u verlossing terug en gee my ‘n gewillige gees om my te ondersteun.” Hy het dit geskryf nadat hy in die ernstige sondes van egbreuk en moord geval het. Dit is interessant om daarop te let dat hy God vra vir ‘n terugkeer van die vreugde van sy verlossing. Vreugde is die sleutel tot ons oorwinning oor sonde. Dit is ook belangrik dat ons verstaan dat God ons “met ‘n gewillige gees” ondersteun. God skep vreugde daarin om ons te red, en ons skep vreugde daarin om gered te word.
God het ons gewilliglik gered om Sy genade, liefde en krag te toon. Ons verlossing hang nie af van hoeveel of hoe min ons sondig, hoeveel of hoe min ons evangeliseer of berou het of goeie werke doen nie, hoe liefdevol of liefdeloos ons is, of enigiets anders omtrent ons nie. Ons verlossing is geheel en al ‘n produk van God se genade, liefde en doel (Efesiërs 2:8–9). Dit is belangrik om te verstaan, want (ironies genoeg) lei die geloof dat ons verantwoordelik is om die wet te onderhou onvermydelik tot die onvermoë om op te hou sondig.
Paulus verduidelik dit in Romeine 7:7–10. Wanneer ons ‘n wet verstaan, soos “moenie begeer nie”, rebelleer ons sondige natuur onvermydelik teen daardie wet, en ons begeer. Dit is die lot van die mens – dit is eenvoudig hoe ons is. Die wet vererger ons sondige natuur. John Bunyan illustreer hierdie waarheid in The Pilgrim’s Progress. In die Interpreter’s House sien Christian ‘n baie stowwerige kamer wat nog nooit gevee is nie. Christian kyk egter toe hoe die besem opsy gesit word en ‘n jong meisie die hele kamer met water besprinkel. Daarna word die kamer vinnig skoongemaak; dit is ‘n beeld van die evangelie van genade en die vermoë daarvan om die hart te suiwer. Die genade van God kan doen wat die wet nooit kon doen nie: ons van sonde reinig.
Die manier om op te hou sondig, is dus nie om meer reëls by te voeg nie. God het dit geweet. Trouens, Hy het ons die wet gegee sodat ons bewus sou wees van ons sonde en ons tot Hom sou bekeer (Romeine 3:19-20; Galasiërs 3:23-26). Die wet is goed. Dit is ‘n weerspieëling van God se natuur en Sy volmaaktheid. Maar dit is nie aan ons gegee vir ons redding nie. Christus vervul die wet vir ons (Matteus 5:17).
Wanneer ons met God verskil en aan die idee vasklou dat ons die wet moet nakom, verloor ons ons vreugde in verlossing en stel ons onsself op vir mislukking. Ons werk onder ‘n verskriklike las. Ons voel onder druk om iets te doen om verlossing te verseker, maar terselfdertyd maak ons sondige natuur ons onbekwaam om die wet te gehoorsaam. Hoe meer ons op die wet fokus, hoe meer rebelleer ons sondige natuur. Hoe meer ons sondige natuur rebelleer, hoe meer bang word ons dat ons nie gered is nie. Hoe meer bang en vreugdeloos ons word, hoe meer aanloklik is die sonde se belofte van geluk.
Die enigste manier om die siklus te breek en op te hou sondig, is om die feit te aanvaar dat ons nie kan ophou sondig nie. Dit mag teenstrydig lyk, maar as ‘n persoon nie ophou probeer om homself te red nie, sal hy nooit rus in die wete dat God hom gered het nie. Die vreugde van verlossing kom van die aanvaarding van die feit dat God se genade ons bedek, dat Hy ons sal verander en ons na die beeld van Christus sal vorm, en dat dit Sy werk is, nie ons s’n nie (Romeine 8:29; Filippense 1:6; Filippense 2:13; Hebreërs 13:20-21). Sodra hierdie werklikheid werklik begryp word, verloor sonde sy krag. Ons voel nie meer die impuls om ons tot sonde te wend as ‘n middel tot tydelike verligting van angs nie, want die angs en druk is eens en vir altyd deur Christus verlig (Hebreërs 10:10, 14). Dan word die goeie werke wat ons in geloof verrig, gedoen as gevolg van liefde en vreugde eerder as uit vrees of plig. “Die angel van die dood is die sonde, en die krag van die sonde is die wet. Maar God sy dank, wat ons die oorwinning gee deur onse Here Jesus Christus. Daarom, my geliefde broeders, wees standvastig, onbeweeglik, altyd oorvloedig in die werk van die Here, omdat julle weet dat julle arbeid in die Here nie tevergeefs is nie” (1 Korintiërs 15:56-58).

Romans 6:1-2, “What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?” The idea that a person could “trust in Jesus Christ” for salvation and then go on living just as he/she lived before, is absolutely foreign to the Bible. Believers in Christ are new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). The Holy Spirit changes us from producing the acts of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-21) to producing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23). The Christian life is a changed life because the Christian is changed.
What differentiates Christianity from every other religion is that Christianity is based on what God has done for us through Jesus Christ—divine accomplishment. Every other world religion is based on what we must do to earn God’s favor and forgiveness—human achievement. Every other religion teaches that we must do certain things and stop doing certain other things in order to earn God’s love and mercy. Christianity, faith in Christ, teaches that we do certain things and stop doing certain things because of what Christ has done for us.
How could anyone, having been delivered from sin’s penalty, eternity in hell, go back to living the same life that had him on the path to hell in the first place? How could anyone, having been cleansed from the defilement of sin, desire to go back to the same cesspool of depravity? How could anyone, knowing what Jesus Christ did on our behalf, go on living as if He were not important? How could anyone, realizing how much Christ suffered for our sins, continue sinning as if those sufferings were meaningless?
Romans 6:11-15 declares, “In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness, but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness. For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!”
For the truly converted, then, continuing to live sinfully is not an option. Because our conversion resulted in a completely new nature, our desire is to no longer live in sin. Yes, we still sin, but instead of wallowing in it as we once did, we now hate it and wish to be delivered from it. The idea of “taking advantage” of Christ’s sacrifice on our behalf by continuing to live sinfully is unthinkable. Christians who have no desire to live for Christ, but instead find themselves living lives indistinguishable from those of unbelievers, should examine whether they have ever genuinely received Christ as Savior. “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5).

Ons het die sonde afgesterf; hoe kan ons nog langer daarin lewe?” Die idee dat ‘n persoon op Jesus Christus kan “vertrou” vir verlossing en dan aanhou lewe net soos hy/sy voorheen geleef het, is absoluut vreemd aan die Bybel. Gelowiges in Christus is nuwe skepsels (2 Korintiërs 5:17). Die Heilige Gees verander ons van die dade van die vlees (Galasiërs 5:19-21) na die vrug van die Gees (Galasiërs 5:22-23). Die Christelike lewe is ‘n veranderde lewe omdat die Christen verander is.
Wat die Christendom van elke ander godsdiens onderskei, is dat die Christendom gebaseer is op wat God vir ons gedoen het deur Jesus Christus – goddelike prestasie. Elke ander wêreldgodsdiens is gebaseer op wat ons moet doen om God se guns en vergifnis te verdien – menslike prestasie. Elke ander godsdiens leer dat ons sekere dinge moet doen en ophou om sekere ander dinge te doen om God se liefde en genade te verdien. Christenskap, geloof in Christus, leer dat ons sekere dinge doen en ophou om sekere dinge te doen as gevolg van wat Christus vir ons gedoen het.
Hoe kan enigiemand, nadat hy van die straf van sonde, die ewigheid in die hel, teruggaan na dieselfde lewe wat hom in die eerste plek op die pad na die hel gehad het? Hoe kan enigiemand, nadat hy van die besoedeling van sonde gereinig is, begeer om terug te gaan na dieselfde put van verdorwenheid? Hoe kan enigiemand, wetende wat Jesus Christus namens ons gedoen het, aanhou leef asof Hy nie belangrik is nie? Hoe kan enigiemand, wat besef hoeveel Christus vir ons sondes gely het, aanhou sondig asof daardie lyding betekenisloos is?
Romeine 6:11-15 verklaar: “Net so moet julle julleself as dood vir die sonde beskou, maar lewend vir God in Christus Jesus. Laat die sonde dan nie in julle sterflike liggaam heers sodat julle aan sy begeertes gehoorsaam nie. Moenie julle liggaamsdele as werktuie van ongeregtigheid aan die sonde stel nie, maar stel julleself aan God as mense wat uit die dood tot die lewe gebring is, en stel julle liggaamsdele as werktuie van geregtigheid aan Hom. Want die sonde sal nie oor julle heers nie, omdat julle nie onder die wet is nie, maar onder die genade. Wat dan? Sal ons sondig omdat ons nie onder die wet is nie, maar onder die genade? Hoegenaamd nie!”
Vir die ware bekeerdes is dit dus nie ‘n opsie om sondig te bly lewe nie. Omdat ons bekering ‘n heeltemal nuwe natuur tot gevolg gehad het, is ons begeerte om nie meer in sonde te lewe nie. Ja, ons sondig steeds, maar in plaas daarvan om daarin te ploeter soos ons voorheen gedoen het, haat ons dit nou en wil daarvan verlos word. Die idee om Christus se offer namens ons te “benut” deur sondig te bly lewe, is ondenkbaar. Christene wat geen begeerte het om vir Christus te lewe nie, maar eerder lewens lei wat nie onderskei kan word van dié van ongelowiges nie, moet ondersoek instel of hulle Christus ooit werklik as Verlosser aangeneem het. “Ondersoek julleself of julle in die geloof is; toets julleself. Besef julle nie dat Christus Jesus in julle is nie – tensy julle die toets druip?” (2 Korintiërs 13:5).

Everyone seeks freedom. Especially in the World, freedom is the highest virtue, and it is sought after by all who are, or consider themselves to be, oppressed. But freedom in Christ is not the same as political or economic freedom. In fact, some of the most harshly oppressed people in history have had complete freedom in Christ. The Bible tells us that, spiritually speaking, no one is free. In Romans 6, Paul explains that we are all slaves. We are either slaves to sin or slaves to righteousness. Those who are slaves to sin cannot free themselves from it, but once we are freed from the penalty and power of sin through the cross, we become a different kind of slave, and in that slavery we find complete peace and true freedom.
Although it seems like a contradiction, the only true freedom in Christ comes to those who are His slaves. Slavery has come to mean degradation, hardship, and inequality. But the biblical paradigm is the true freedom of the slave of Christ who experiences joy and peace, the products of the only true freedom we will ever know in this life. There are 124 occurrences in the New Testament of the word doulos, which means “someone who belongs to another” or “bondslave with no ownership rights of his own.” Unfortunately, most modern Bible versions, as well as the King James Version, most often translate doulos as “servant” or “bond-servant.” But a servant is one who works for wages, and who, by virtue of his work, is owed something from his master. The Christian, on the other hand, has nothing to offer the Lord in payment for his forgiveness, and he is totally owned by the Master who bought him with His shed blood on the cross. Christians are purchased by that blood and are the possession of their Lord and Savior. We are not hired by Him; we belong to Him (Romans 8:9; 1 Corinthians 7:4). So “slave” is really the only proper translation of the word doulos.
Far from being oppressed, the slave of Christ is truly free. We have been set free from sin by the Son of God who said, “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed” (John 8:36). Now the Christian can truly say, along with Paul, “Through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death” (Romans 8:2). We now know the truth and that truth has set us free (John 8:32). Paradoxically, through our bondage to Christ, we have also become sons and heirs of the Most High God (Galatians 4:1–7). As heirs, we are partakers of that inheritance—eternal life—which God confers on all His children. This is a privilege beyond any earthly treasure we could ever inherit, while those in bondage to sin inherit only spiritual death and an eternity in hell.
Why, then, do so many Christians live as though they are still in bondage? For one thing, we often rebel against our Master, refusing to obey Him and clinging to our old lives. We hold on to the sins that once bound us to Satan as our master. Because our new nature still lives in the old fleshly nature, we are still drawn to sin. Paul tells the Ephesians to “put off” the old self with its deceit and corruption and “put on” the new self with its righteousness. Put off lying, and put on truthfulness. Put off stealing, and put on usefulness and work. Put off bitterness, rage, and anger, and put on kindness, compassion, and forgiveness (Ephesians 4:22–32). We have been set free from the bondage of sin, but we often put the chains back on because part of us loves the old life.
Furthermore, often we don’t realize that we have been crucified with Christ (Galatians 2:20) and that we have been reborn as completely new creatures (2 Corinthians 5:17). The Christian life is one of death to self and rising to “walk in the newness of life” (Romans 6:4), and that new life is characterized by thoughts about Him who saved us, not thoughts about the dead flesh that has been crucified with Christ. When we are continually thinking about ourselves and indulging the flesh in sins we have been freed from, we are essentially carrying around a corpse, full of rottenness and death. The only way to bury it fully is by the power of the Spirit who is the only source of strength. We strengthen the new nature by continually feeding on the Word of God, and through prayer we obtain the power we need to escape the desire to return to the old life of sin. Then we will realize that our new status as slaves to Christ is the only true freedom, and we will call upon His power to “not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires” (Romans 6:12).

Almal soek vryheid. Veral in die wêreld is vryheid die hoogste deug, en dit word gesoek deur almal wat onderdruk is, of hulself as onderdruk beskou. Maar vryheid in Christus is nie dieselfde as politieke of ekonomiese vryheid nie. Trouens, sommige van die mees hardvogtigste onderdrukte mense in die geskiedenis het volledige vryheid in Christus gehad. Die Bybel sê vir ons dat niemand geestelik vry is nie. In Romeine 6 verduidelik Paulus dat ons almal slawe is. Ons is óf slawe van die sonde óf slawe van geregtigheid. Diegene wat slawe van die sonde is, kan hulself nie daarvan bevry nie, maar sodra ons deur die kruis van die straf en mag van sonde bevry is, word ons ‘n ander soort slaaf, en in daardie slawerny vind ons volledige vrede en ware vryheid.
Alhoewel dit soos ‘n teenstrydigheid lyk, kom die enigste ware vryheid in Christus na diegene wat Sy slawe is. Slawerny het agteruitgang, ontbering en ongelykheid beteken. Maar die Bybelse paradigma is die ware vryheid van die slaaf van Christus wat vreugde en vrede ervaar, die produkte van die enigste ware vryheid wat ons ooit in hierdie lewe sal ken. Daar is 124 kere in die Nuwe Testament waar die woord doulos voorkom, wat beteken “iemand wat aan ‘n ander behoort” of “slaaf sonder sy eie eiendomsreg”. Ver van onderdruk te wees, is die slaaf van Christus werklik vry. Ons is vrygemaak van sonde deur die Seun van God wat gesê het: “As die Seun julle vrygemaak het, sal julle waarlik vry wees” (Johannes 8:36). Nou kan die Christen waarlik sê, saam met Paulus: “Deur Christus Jesus het die wet van die Gees van die lewe my vrygemaak van die wet van sonde en dood” (Romeine 8:2). Ons ken nou die waarheid en daardie waarheid het ons vrygemaak (Johannes 8:32). Paradoksaal genoeg, deur ons slawerny aan Christus, het ons ook seuns en erfgename van die Allerhoogste God geword (Galasiërs 4:1–7). As erfgename is ons deelgenote aan daardie erfenis – die ewige lewe – wat God aan al Sy kinders skenk. Dit is ‘n voorreg bo enige aardse skat wat ons ooit sou kon erf, terwyl diegene wat in slawerny aan sonde is, slegs geestelike dood en ‘n ewigheid in die hel erf.
Waarom leef soveel Christene dan asof hulle nog in slawerny is? Eerstens rebelleer ons dikwels teen ons Meester, weier om Hom te gehoorsaam en klou vas aan ons ou lewens. Ons hou vas aan die sondes wat ons eens aan Satan as ons meester gebind het. Omdat ons nuwe natuur steeds in die ou vleeslike natuur leef, word ons steeds tot sonde aangetrokke. Paulus sê vir die Efesiërs om die ou mens met sy bedrog en korrupsie “af te lê” en die nuwe mens met sy geregtigheid “aan te trek”. Lê leuens af en beklee julle met waarheidsgetrouheid. Lê diefstal af en beklee julle met nuttigheid en werk. Lê bitterheid, woede en toorn af en beklee julle met vriendelikheid, medelye en vergifnis (Efesiërs 4:22–32). Ons is vrygemaak van die slawerny van sonde, maar ons sit dikwels die kettings weer aan omdat ‘n deel van ons die ou lewe liefhet.
Verder besef ons dikwels nie dat ons met Christus gekruisig is (Galasiërs 2:20) en dat ons as heeltemal nuwe skepsels wedergebore is nie (2 Korintiërs 5:17). Die Christelike lewe is een van die dood van die self en die opstanding om “in die nuwigheid van die lewe te wandel” (Romeine 6:4), en daardie nuwe lewe word gekenmerk deur gedagtes oor Hom wat ons gered het, nie gedagtes oor die dooie vlees wat met Christus gekruisig is nie. Wanneer ons voortdurend aan onsself dink en die vlees in sondes oorgee waarvan ons bevry is, dra ons in wese ‘n lyk rond, vol verrotting en dood. Die enigste manier om dit ten volle te begrawe, is deur die krag van die Gees wat die enigste bron van krag is. Dan sal ons besef dat ons nuwe status as slawe van Christus die enigste ware vryheid is, en ons sal Sy krag aanroep om “die sonde nie in julle sterflike liggaam te laat heers sodat julle aan sy begeertes gehoorsaam nie” (Romeine 6:12).

Die Apostel Paulus was geen vreemdeling vir lewensbedreigende situasies nie. Hy is gevange geneem, geslaan, gestenig en het gely terwyl hy die goeie nuus van Jesus Christus aan mense wou bring. Hy het geweet dat hy eendag sou sterf, maar hy moes nooit as die einde van die verganklike beskou word nie, want die sterflike is met onverganklikheid beklee en die sterflike met onsterflikheid beklee. Dan sal die woord wat geskrywe is, waar word: Die dood is verslind in die oorwinning (1 Kor 15:54).
Die passie van Paulus se lewe was om ander te vertel dat Jesus, ons Verlosser, Sy lewe aan die kruis gegee het sodat ons deur geloof in Hom vergifnis vir al ons sondes kan ontvang en die ewige lewe kan hê.
Die dag sal kom wanneer ons aardse lewens óf deur die dood of Christus se wederkoms sal eindig. Maar deur God se genade en barmhartigheid word die verhaal van jou en myne se lewe “vervolg”.
In die lewe, en in die dood, is Christus ons hoop.

The Apostle Paul was no stranger to life-threatening situations. He was imprisoned, beaten, stoned, and suffered as he wanted to bring the good news of Jesus Christ to people. He knew that he would die one day, but he should never be considered the end of the perishable, for the mortal has put on incorruption, and the mortal has put on immortality. Then the saying that is written will come true: Death is swallowed up in victory (1 Cor. 15:54).
The passion of Paul’s life was to tell others that Jesus, our Savior, gave His life on the cross so that through faith in Him we can receive forgiveness for all our sins and have eternal life.
The day will come when our earthly lives will end either through death or Christ’s return. But by God’s grace and mercy, the story of your life and mine is “continued.”
In life, and in death, Christ is our hope.

Trump signals greenlight for full Israeli takeover of Gaza
President Trump says possible Israeli conquest of all of Gaza Strip is “up to Israel,” says US is interested primarily in ensuring flow of food into Gaza.
President Donald Trump appeared to give Israel a green light Tuesday to plans for the complete military occupation of the Gaza Strip, following the collapse of hostage deal talks with Hamas.
Addressing reporters at the White House on Tuesday, Trump responded to a question regarding media reports indicating Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has decided to move forward with the conquest of the remaining areas in Gaza under Hamas control.
Trump declined to comment on the plans, emphasizing that his administration is primarily concerned with ensuring that sufficient food is transferred and efficiently distributed within the Gaza Strip.
“Well, I don’t know what the suggestion is,” Trump said of Israel’s war plans.
“I know that we are… now trying to get people fed. As you know, $60 million was given by the United States fairly recently to supply food, and a lot of food, frankly, for the people of Gaza that are obviously not doing too well with the food.”
“I know Israel is going to help us with that in terms of distribution, and also money. We also have the Arab states that are going to help us with the money and also possibly distribution. That is what I am focused on.”

Israel Signs Record $35 Billion Natural Gas Export Deal with Egypt

The partners behind Israel’s Leviathan offshore gas field have finalized a groundbreaking $35 billion deal to supply natural gas to Egypt through 2040, marking the largest energy export agreement in Israel’s history.
Under the terms of the contract, approximately 130 billion cubic meters (BCM) of gas will be delivered to Egypt over the next 15 years or until the full quantity is supplied. The gas will be provided by the Leviathan partnership, which is led by NewMed Energy—formerly Delek Drilling and part of Yitzhak Tshuva’s Delek Group—with a 45.3% stake in the field located off Israel’s Mediterranean coast.
Leviathan, one of the largest deep-water gas finds globally, began serving Israel’s domestic market in 2019 and commenced exports to Egypt in early 2020. The newly signed agreement represents a major expansion, tripling the volumes previously exported. It accounts for roughly 22% of Leviathan’s current production capacity and 13% of Israel’s known natural gas reserves.
