Jesus said to him,” It is written “, ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.

Where was it Written?

Deuteronomy 6:16

Do not put the Lord your God to the test as you did at Massah.

A scriptural understanding of truth encompasses more than simple honesty. The Bible reveals truth as a moral concept rooted in God’s character (Psalm 43:3; 25:5; 26:3; 86:11; Isaiah 65:16). He is the “God of truth” (Isaiah 65:16, NLT), and His truthfulness embraces His steadfastness, trustworthiness, and eternal faithfulness (Psalm 117:2).

Most commonly, discussions of truth have to do with speaking the truth (Psalm 15:2; Proverbs 12:17). Lying is the opposite of telling the truth (Jeremiah 9:3), and God never lies (Titus 1:2). The Bible says that God is not only truthful, but He Himself is the essence of truth. The reliability and trustworthiness of His being were highly significant to the biblical writers in expressing God’s truthfulness. When Scripture speaks of truth, it refers to a completeness of moral integrity that influences how one thinks and behaves (Psalm 86:11; 119:30, 43–44; Malachi 2:6).

God demonstrates that He is truth in the faithfulness and dependability of His words, actions, and dealings: “God is not a man, so he does not lie. He is not human, so he does not change his mind. Has he ever spoken and failed to act? Has he ever promised and not carried it through?” (Numbers 23:19, NLT; see also 1 Samuel 15:29). God’s Word holds true, and we can trust everything He does (Psalm 33:4). He is completely reliable (Psalm 31:5). The Lord is a rock-solid, trustworthy foundation for life because He is entirely reliable and consistent in His character (Deuteronomy 32:4; Psalm 145:13; 2 Timothy 2:13).

God’s laws and instructions outline the way of truth that is meant to lead people to Him (Psalm 19:7; 119:30, 42–45; Malachi 2:6–7). The Bible says God’s Word is truth: “The entirety of Your word is truth” (Psalm 119:160, HCSB). As the Logos—the living, incarnate Word of God—Jesus Christ is truth (John 1:14, 17; John 6:32). Jesus Himself said, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

Scripture also says that the gospel message is truth (Galatians 2:5, 14; Ephesians 1:13). That message is the good news of salvation—that Jesus is the only way to everlasting life with God. Through Jesus, “we can know the true God. And now we live in fellowship with the true God because we live in fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only true God, and he is eternal life” (1 John 5:20, NLT). Likewise, the Holy Spirit is the “Spirit of truth” who dwells within believers and leads them “into all truth” (John 14:17, NLT; see also John 15:26; 16:13; 1 John 5:6).

The truth of God’s Word also holds sanctifying power for the believer. In His High Priestly Prayer, Jesus asked the Father, “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth” (John 17:17, NLT). Since the Bible is truth, Christians ought to study it, working hard to understand and correctly apply it to their lives (2 Timothy 2:15; 3:16–17). As we deepen our knowledge and insight into God’s Word, its truth will set us free (John 8:32).

God desires His followers to be people of the truth (Ephesians 4:25). He loves those who tell the truth and detests those who lie (Proverbs 12:22; 6:16–19). The Lord underscores the importance of truth by presenting us with “the belt of truth” as the first piece of our spiritual armor (Ephesians 6:10–17). The rest of our armor is held secure when the truth is wrapped around us. Otherwise, we are defenseless against the lies of our adversary, the devil, who is the father of lies (John 8:44).

The Bible says that God delights in truth. “The Lord is close to all who call on him, yes, to all who call on him in truth,” declares the psalmist (Psalm 145:18, NLT). Because of truth’s high value, Solomon counsels, “Buy the truth and do not sell it—wisdom, instruction and insight as well” (Proverbs 23:23). God takes pleasure in seeing His truth reflected in the character of His children (Psalm 15:1–5; 51:6). He calls believers to worship Him in truth (John 4:24), love others in truth (1 John 3:18), and always speak the truth (Ephesians 4:15, 25; Zechariah 8:16).

Hy is volkome betroubaar (Psalm 31:5).

Bible Teaching of the Day

The Four Spiritual Laws
are a way of sharing the good news of the salvation that is available through faith in Jesus Christ. It is a simple way of organizing the important information in the Gospel into four points.

The first of the Four Spiritual Laws is, “God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life.” John 3:16 tells us, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 10:10 gives us the reason that Jesus came, “I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.” What is blocking us from God’s love? What is preventing us from having an abundant life?

The second of the Four Spiritual Laws is, “Humanity is tainted by sin and is therefore separated from God. As a result, we cannot know God’s wonderful plan for our lives.” Romans 3:23 affirms this information, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Romans 6:23 gives us the consequences of sin, “the wages of sin is death.” God created us to have fellowship with Him. However, humanity brought sin into the world, and is therefore separated from God. We have ruined the relationship with Him that God intended us to have. What is the solution?

The third of the Four Spiritual Laws is, “Jesus Christ is God’s only provision for our sin. Through Jesus Christ, we can have our sins forgiven and restore a right relationship with God.” Romans 5:8 tells us, “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” 1 Corinthians 15:3-4 informs us of what we need to know and believe in order to be saved, “…that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that He was buried, that He was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures…” Jesus Himself declares that He is the only way of salvation in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” How can I receive this wonderful gift of salvation?

The Fourth of the Four Spiritual Laws is, “We must place our faith in Jesus Christ as Savior in order to receive the gift of salvation and know God’s wonderful plan for our lives.” John 1:12 describes this for us, “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God.” Acts 16:31 says it very clearly, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved!” We can be saved by grace alone, through faith alone, in Jesus Christ alone (Ephesians 2:8-9).

If you want to trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior, say the following words to God. Saying these words will not save you, but trusting in Christ will! This prayer is simply a way to express to God your faith in Him and thank Him for providing for your salvation. “God, I know that I have sinned against you and deserve punishment. But Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. I place my trust in You for salvation. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness – the gift of eternal life! Amen!”

Ek plaas my vertroue in U vir verlossing. Amen!”

Today’s Devotional

But that all should come to repentance!
It is always important to study Bible verses in context, and it is especially true with 2 Peter 3:9, which reads, “The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance” (KJV). The second half of the verse, “not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance,” is frequently used to argue against the doctrine of election.

The context of 2 Peter 3:9 is a description of scoffers who doubt that Jesus is going to return to judge the world with fire (2 Peter 3:3–7). The scoffers mock, “Where is this coming?” (verse 4). In verses 5–6, Peter reminds his readers that God previously destroyed the world with the flood in Noah’s time. In verse 7, Peter informs his readers that the present heavens and earth will be destroyed with fire. Peter then responds to a question he knew was on his readers’ minds, namely, “what is taking God so long?” In verse 8, Peter tells his readers that God is above and beyond the concept of time. It may seem like we have been waiting a long time, but, to God, it has been a blink of an eye. Then, in verse 9, Peter explains why God has waited so long (in our view of time). It is God’s mercy that delays His judgment. God is waiting to give more people the opportunity to repent. Then, in the verses following verse 9, Peter encourages his readers to live holy lives in anticipation of the fact that Jesus will one day return.

In context, 2 Peter 3:9 says that God is delaying His coming in judgment in order to give people further opportunities to repent. Some of the confusion regarding the meaning of 2 Peter 3:9 is the wording of the KJV translation: “not willing that any should perish.” Not willing makes it sound as if God does not allow any to perish. However, in 17th-century English, willing carried more of an idea of desire than of volition. The modern English translations of 2 Peter 3:9 render the same phrase “not wanting” (NIV and CSB), “not wishing” (ESV and NASB), and “does not want” (NLT).

In no sense does 2 Peter 3:9 contradict the idea that God elects certain people to salvation. First, in context, election is not at all what the verse is talking about. Second, to interpret “not willing that any should perish” as “does not allow any to perish” results in the false doctrine of universalism. But God can “not desire” anyone to perish and still only elect some to salvation. There is nothing incongruous about that. God did not desire for sin to enter the world through the fall of Adam and Eve, yet He allowed it. In fact, it was part of His sovereign plan. God did not desire His only begotten Son to be betrayed, brutally tortured, and murdered, yet He allowed it. This, too, was part of God’s sovereign plan.

In the same way, God does not desire anyone to perish. He desires all to come to repentance. At the same time, God recognizes that not everyone will come to repentance. It is undeniable that many will perish (Matthew 7:13–14). Rather than being a contradiction to 2 Peter 3:9, God’s electing and drawing of some to salvation is evidence that He truly does not desire people to perish. Were it not for election and the effectual calling of God, everyone would perish (John 6:44; Romans 8:29–30).

Die moderne Engelse vertalings van 2 Petrus 3:9 gee dieselfde frase weer as “not wanting” (NIV en CSB), “not wishing” (ESV en NASB), en “does not want” (NLT).

Bible Prophecy in the News

STATE OF EMERGENCY DECLARED ACROSS ISRAEL: IDF launches major operation on Iranian regime’s nuclear threat.

US Prepares To Strike Iran, Pulls Non Essential Staff From Iraq

According to reports the US is pulling all non-essential staff from its military bases in Iraq as it prepares for a potential retaliation if President Trump orders an air strike on Iran’s nuclear sites.

US evacuates embassies as Iran threatens to attack US bases in Mideast

The United States is preparing to evacuate non-essential personnel from its embassy in Baghdad and has authorized departures from diplomatic missions in Bahrain and Kuwait, as tensions with Iran continue to escalate, US officials confirmed on Wednesday.

While the US Embassy in Baghdad has already operated with reduced staff, the new order reflects growing concern over the potential for violence in the region, according to the US Associated Press news agency.

The Pentagon is on standby to assist in a possible evacuation, according to a US defense official.

The precautionary moves come as diplomatic efforts between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s advancing nuclear program appear to have stalled.

On Wednesday, Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh told reporters that while Tehran still hopes for a diplomatic resolution, it is fully prepared for conflict.

“If conflict is imposed on us, the opponent’s casualties will certainly be more than ours,” Nasirzadeh warned.

“America must leave the region because all its bases are within our reach, and we will target all of them in the host countries without hesitation.”

In a separate post on social media, Iran’s mission to the UN dismissed US pressure tactics, saying: “Threats of overwhelming force won’t change the facts. Iran is not seeking a nuclear weapon, and US militarism only fuels instability.”

The United Kingdom also issued a rare maritime security advisory on Wednesday through its Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center, warning of increased regional tensions that could “lead to an escalation of military activity having a direct impact on mariners.”

The advisory urged caution in the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Oman, and the Strait of Hormuz — critical shipping lanes near Iranian waters that have been flashpoints for conflict in the past, the Israeli Ynet news website reported.

Meanwhile, in Israel, speculation is growing that a preemptive strike against Iranian nuclear facilities could be imminent.

Yaakov Bardugo, a media figure closely tied to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, told Israel Radio on Tuesday: “In my view, we are very close to striking Iran. The Americans aren’t delivering results.”

With diplomacy faltering and military posturing on the rise, the region appears to be edging closer to a broader confrontation — one that could endanger US personnel and destabilize vital energy and trade routes across the Middle East.

Presbyterians Purge Biblical Pastors: Affirm LGBTQ+ Or Be Rejected

By all appearances, the Presbyterian Church (USA) has now crossed a line that many hoped it never would. With the formal adoption of Amendment 24-C, which mandates screening clergy candidates based on their views of sexual orientation and gender identity, the denomination has effectively declared that holding a biblical worldview disqualifies a person from spiritual leadership.

Should The Church Dumb Down Worship To Reach The Lost?

By all accounts, Brandon Lake’s music has played a role in stirring hearts toward God. But his recent comments about tailoring worship services to be more accessible to un-churched visitors–like the hypothetical “Bubba” dragged to church by his wife–raise a question far larger than Lake’s own platform: Are we compromising the sacred to make it more palatable?

Gog and Magog Update

Hezbollah’s Pivot To Drones Could Inspire The Next Domestic Attack

In the shadow of its battlefield humiliation and organizational collapse, Hezbollah has quietly pivoted. Once famed and feared for its sophisticated missile stockpiles, the Lebanese terror group is now looking to the skies with a new strategy: mass-produced drones.

Introduction to the Bible – Bible Summary

Summary of the Book of 1 Peter
Author:
1 Peter 1:1 identifies the author of the Book of 1 Peter as the apostle Peter.
Date of Writing: The Book of 1 Peter was likely written between A.D. 60 and 65.
Purpose of Writing: 1 Peter is a letter from Peter to the believers who had been
dispersed throughout the ancient world and were under intense persecution. If anyone
understood persecution, it was Peter. He was beaten, threatened, punished, and jailed
for preaching the Word of God. He knew what it took to endure without bitterness,
without losing hope and in great faith living an obedient, victorious life. This knowledge
of living hope in Jesus was the message, and Christ’s example was the one to follow.
Key Verses:
1 Peter 1:3, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy
he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ
from the dead.”
1 Peter 2:9, “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of
darkness into his wonderful light.”
1 Peter 2:24, “He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, so that we might die to
sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed.”
1 Peter 5:8-9, “Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a
roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith,
because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same
kind of sufferings.”
Brief Summary: Though this time of persecution was desperate, Peter reveals that it
was actually a time to rejoice. He says to count it a privilege to suffer for the sake of
Christ, as their Savior suffered for them. This letter makes reference to Peter’s personal
experiences with Jesus and his sermons from the book of Acts. Peter confirms Satan as
the great enemy of every Christian but the assurance of Christ’s future return gives the
incentive of hope.
Connections: Peter’s familiarity with the Old Testament law and prophets enabled him
to explain various OT passages in light of the life and work of the Messiah, Jesus Christ.
In 1 Peter 1:16, he quotes Leviticus 11:44: “Be holy, for I am holy.” But he prefaces it by
explaining that holiness is not achieved by keeping the law, but by the grace bestowed
upon all who believe in Christ (v. 13). Further, Peter explains the reference to the
“cornerstone” in Isaiah 28:16 and Psalm 118:22 as Christ, who was rejected by the Jews
through their disobedience and unbelief. Additional Old Testament references include
the sinless Christ (1 Peter 2:22 / Isaiah 53:9) and admonitions to holy living through the
power of God which yields blessings (1 Peter 3:10:12; Psalm 34:12-16; 1 Peter
5:5; Proverbs 3:34).
Practical Application: The assurance of eternal life is given to all Christians. One way to
identify with Christ is to share in His suffering. To us that would be to endure insults and
slurs from those who call us “goodie two shoes” or “holier than thou.” This is so minor
compared to what Christ suffered for us on the Cross. Stand up for what you know and
believe is right and rejoice when the world and Satan aim to hurt you.

Inleiding tot die Bybel – Bybel Samevatting

Opsomming van die boek 1
Petrus
Outeur:
As iemand vervolging verstaan
1 Petrus 2:9 “Maar julle is ‘n uitverkore volk, ‘n koninklike priesterdom, ‘n heilige nasie, ‘n
heilig, want Ek is heilig.”
Bykomende Ou-Testamentiese verwysings
skoene” of ” heiliger as jy ” noem.

Be sober and vigilant. Your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, knowing that the same things in the way of suffering are accomplished in your brethren throughout the world.
