In Acts 7:58 we are introduced to a leader named Saul. He was leading persecutions of the church (Acts 8:3) and was active in threatening believers (Acts 9:1). He had asked for and received written approval to arrest any who believed (Acts 9:2). Surprisingly, it is in the account of Saul’s pursuit of that task that we learn that Saul was a chosen vessel. In Acts 9:15 we read that “he is a chosen instrument of Mine, to bear My name before the Gentiles and kings and the sons of Israel” (NASB95). What a remarkable turn that someone who was so destructive could actually be transformed and used by God in such a powerful way! There is much for us to learn from Saul being a chosen vessel.
While Saul was traveling to Damascus to persecute believers there, Jesus Himself interacted with Saul, asking Saul why he was persecuting Jesus (Acts 9:4). Saul questioned who it was that was addressing him and who it was that Saul was actually persecuting. The answer was direct: “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting” (Acts 9:5). Saul listened and followed Jesus’ directions to enter the city, where he would be shown what to do (Acts 9:6). Saul then saw a vision of a man named Ananias come and restore Saul’s sight, which he had lost when he met Jesus on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:12).
When the Lord instructed Ananias to meet Saul, Ananias was disturbed because he was aware of Saul’s hatred and persecution of Christians (Acts 9:13–14). God encouraged Ananias and explained to him that “this man is my chosen instrument to proclaim my name to the Gentiles and their kings and to the people of Israel” (Acts 9:15). Saul was a chosen vessel who would be a powerful testimony of Jesus before both Jews and Gentiles. Ananias went to meet Saul, and Saul became the man God had said he would be. Saul (also known as Paul) later testified before many, including kings, that Jesus was the Christ. This isn’t mere history; there is much we can learn from Saul being a chosen vessel.
Saul acknowledged how great a change there was in his life, as he refers to himself later as the foremost or chief of sinners (1 Timothy 1:15). He recognized that God had shown him incredible mercy and grace and that, though at one time he was a child of God’s wrath (Ephesians 2:3), he had become God’s workmanship created in Christ Jesus for doing good (Ephesians 2:10). In the same way as was true of Saul, we all begin as children of wrath, as enemies of God. But in His mercy and grace God brings us to Himself and offers us a new life. We are saved by grace through belief in Jesus (Ephesians 2:8), and then we also become God’s workmanship—new creations created for doing good (Ephesians 2:10).
Also, like Saul, we are chosen vessels of God. In Ephesians 1:4–5 we learn that we have been predestined to be His children, and in Ephesians 2:10 we read that He prepared good works beforehand that we should walk in them. It should be a great encouragement to us that God has chosen us, given us mercy and grace, and no matter how much we do not deserve His love, He has loved us and made us His workmanship designed to fulfill His purpose. Saul’s being a chosen vessel is not very different from how God works in our own lives.

Bible Teaching of the Day
As Paul exhorts Timothy to diligence in holiness, he uses a metaphor about vessels “for honor” (2 Timothy 2:21, NKJV). He pictures a large house where there are many vessels. Some of gold and silver, and some of wood and earthenware. Some of these vessels are intended for honorable purposes, and some for dishonorable purposes (2 Timothy 2:20). Paul notes that, if a person cleanses himself from the things Paul warns Timothy about, then that person will be a vessel for honor (2 Timothy 2:21a). That person will be set apart (or sanctified), useful to the Master and prepared for every good work (2 Timothy 2:21b).
In the immediate context, there are several things Paul warns Timothy should be avoided in order to be a vessel unto honor. A vessel for honor shouldn’t quarrel about words because it is of no benefit and hurts those who hear (2 Timothy 2:14). A vessel unto honor should avoid worldly and empty chatter, as that is a gateway to further ungodliness (2 Timothy 2:16). A vessel for honor should flee from youthful lusts (2 Timothy 2:22). A vessel unto honor should refuse foolish and ignorant speculations, as they produce quarrels (2 Timothy 2:23). Finally, the vessel unto honor should not be quarrelsome (2 Timothy 2:24). Avoiding these things—or cleansing oneself from these things—allows a person to function as a vessel for honor and to be useful and prepared (2 Timothy 2:21).
In addition to outlining the things to be avoided to be a vessel for honor, Paul highlights some of the good works that one might expect to see from a vessel unto honor. A vessel unto honor ought to pursue righteousness, faith, love, and peace (2 Timothy 2:22). A vessel for honor ought to be kind to all, able to teach, and patient when wronged (2 Timothy 2:23). A vessel unto honor ought to correct with gentleness (2 Timothy 2:24).
Paul uses several metaphors in 2 Timothy 2 to illustrate the kind of godly conduct he hopes to see from Timothy and those whom Timothy teaches. Paul refers to a good soldier (2 Timothy 2:3–4), an athlete who competes according to the rules (2 Timothy 2:5), the hard-working farmer (2 Timothy 2:6), and finally the various vessels in the large house (2 Timothy 2:20–21).
Paul’s exhortations give us occasion to consider whether we are allowing ourselves to be used as vessels of honor who are useful to our Master and prepared for every good work. Paul provides clear guidance and shows how we can be honorable vessels. He prepares Timothy for the tasks ahead in his ministry, knowing what it takes to be useful and prepared. All believers in Christ can be vessels of honor if they simply heed Paul’s direction. It is a sad fact that some who believe in Christ will fail to cleanse themselves of dishonorable things and may in fact be vessels of dishonor, not useful and not prepared.

Today’s Devotional
In 2 Corinthians 4:7, Paul makes a beautiful statement that “we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves.” The context helps us understand what is the treasure in earthen vessels (other translations say “jars of clay”). Paul is exhorting his readers that, even though there is great difficulty in their ministry, he is encouraged (2 Corinthians 4:1). He acknowledges that in his ministry he had received mercy and that he and the others who shared that ministry are not losing heart (in this case he is also referring to Timothy, see 2 Corinthians 1:1). They could have confidence because they were walking in the truth of God’s Word and not in their own cleverness or craftiness (2 Corinthians 4:2). Because their confidence was in His truth and not their own ability, they could fulfill their ministry with good conscience even as God could observe their actions (2 Corinthians 4:2).
Even though Paul and Timothy’s gospel-proclaiming ministry was at times met with rejection, it was not because of any flaw in the good news itself. Unbelievers suffer from a blindness of the mind and are unable to see the “light of the gospel of the glory of Christ who is the image of God” (2 Corinthians 4:3–4). Because of this great need, the message of the gospel is so important. They weren’t proclaiming or promoting themselves; rather, they were serving others by proclaiming the message of Jesus Christ (2 Corinthians 4:5). The light that Paul and Timothy were proclaiming had come from God—that same God who had originally created light (Genesis 1:3) and who had determined that Christ would come to provide light to humanity (John 1:4–9). God had accomplished the creation of light and the coming of Jesus. What He determines shall happen; it will indeed take place, and God had shone light in Paul’s and Timothy’s hearts that they would be equipped to present the wonderful truth of Jesus Christ and the eternal life He provides (2 Corinthians 4:6). It is for this reason that Paul explains that they have the treasure in earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7) and why that is significant.
Paul says elsewhere that, if he will boast, he will boast in the Lord (2 Corinthians 10:17). He is doing exactly that here when he says that they have the treasure in earthen vessels (2 Corinthians 4:7). The marvel that Paul is communicating is that, even as Paul and Timothy (and presumably the other disciples) were proclaiming Christ, they were not fulfilling this responsibility in their own power. Instead, God had provided the life, the power, and the message. Paul understood that those who were doing the actual proclaiming were simply earthen vessels—with no glory or merit of their own. As he said to the Corinthians in his previous letter, “Neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but God who causes the growth” (1 Corinthians 3:7). Such lowly and humble people were given an incredible treasure—the personal and lifegiving knowledge of Jesus Christ in their own lives and the good news to proclaim to others. This shows how surpassing is the strength and power of God, and those who hear the message can be encouraged that the power is from God and His truth. The power does not originate in the cleverness or strength of people.
As God uses broken and imperfect people, we can also be encouraged that God can use us to accomplish important things and that, when we use the tools He provides, the power is not our own, but His. We are simply earthen vessels / jars of clay; the treasure is God’s gift inside.
Paulus sê elders dat, as hy wil roem, hy in die Here sal roem (2 Korintiërs 10:17).

“weaker vessel” means “worth protecting”
The context of 1 Peter 3:7 is the Apostle Peter’s instructions concerning living as godly believers toward one another beginning in the home (1 Peter 3:1-12). The wife is addressed first and then the husband. This is the same order the Apostle Paul uses in Ephesians 5:22-33. Husbands are instructed to “live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel” (ESV). Other translations of 1 Peter 3:7 render the phrase “weaker partner” (NIV, CSB), “someone weaker” (NASB), or “weaker than you are” (NLT).
What does it mean that the wife is a “weaker vessel”? The passage does not specifically say. There are many speculations. The most common proposal is that 1 Peter 3:7 is referring to physical weakness since the vast majority of husbands are significantly physically stronger than their wives. Some interpreters see other ways that women are, generally speaking, weaker than men, such as being less in control of their emotions. Others point to the idea that women are more easily deceived (based on 1 Timothy 2:14). The primary problem with these theories is that this passage, and the Bible as a whole, nowhere specifically identifies ways that women are weaker than men. First Timothy 2:14 simply says that Eve was deceived. It does not say that women are more easily deceived than men.
First Peter 3:7 is not about identifying weaknesses in wives. Rather, it is about how husbands are to treat their wives. According to 1 Peter 3:7, husbands are to live with their wives in an understanding way, show them honor, and recognize that their wives are heirs with them of the grace of life. The consequence of a husband not honoring his wife is hindered prayer, something every Christian husband should strive to avoid.
While it is interesting to study what precisely Peter may have meant by “weaker vessel,” ultimately, it misses the point. Whatever “weaker vessel” means, the application is that husbands are to understand, honor, and value their wives.
In context, “weaker vessel” likely carries the meaning of “worth protecting” and “something to cherish” far more than it is intended to identify specific weaknesses or in any way diminish the strength and value of wives.
Daar is baie spekulasies.

‘FINISH HAMAS’: Trump’s Stark Message to Netanyahu
Signs of the Times
The baptism ceremony was a subdued celebration.

On Saturday, March 8, eight young Burkinabe Christians were baptized. “These baptisms are different than most I have attended as they are quite solemn,” said a front-line worker. “Once these individuals are baptized, they are targeted and are likely to be beaten or even killed for their faith in Jesus Christ.”
As they were being baptized, the Christians sang “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.”
Following Christ in Burkina Faso comes with great risk. According to church leaders in the country, 292 Christians have been killed and more than 131,000 have been displaced by Islamist attacks since January 2024. “These are current numbers,” said another front-line worker. “We need to increase prayer support for our Burkinabe brothers and sisters — for their protection, for provision and for their persecutors to come to faith in Christ.”
The baptism ceremony for the young Christians took place in a village in the southwestern part of the country where Muslim terrorists from neighboring Mali sometimes attack and kill followers of Christ. There is “no turning back” for these believers.
When Christians are displaced or martyred by Islamist attacks, such as in Burkina Faso, you can help support them and their families. Your gifts to Persecution Response help provide shelter, food, medical care and fulfill other immediate and ongoing needs for our brothers and sisters who have suffered persecution. The Trump administration is drafting plans for the post-war administration of the Gaza Strip, which would include either paying for the mass voluntary migration of the area’s two million residents to third-party countries or their relocation into designated refugee zones within the coastal enclave, according to a report published Sunday.
The Washington Post cited a 38-page prospectus in its report, revealing details of the White House’s plans for rebuilding Gaza after the current war with Israel ends.
In February 2025, during Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit, President Donald Trump announced plans to promote the voluntary mass migration of Gaza’s entire population of roughly two million people, with the United States taking control of the Gaza Strip.
While the administration has provided few details on the president’s plan, which he claimed would see the wartorn area turned into a Middle Eastern “Riviera,” US officials are now mulling competing proposals for implementing Trump’s vision of rehabilitating Gaza into an American economic zone — one that would serve as a hub for a larger east-west economic corridor linking the US and India.
