In Ephesians 4, Paul encourages the believers in Ephesus to live like redeemed Christians. Because they have new life in Christ, they should live like new people, not like they did before they were saved (Ephesians 4:20–24). In Ephesians 4:25–32, Paul gives several examples of what it means to live in Christian community. One of those examples involves our anger and the devil. “‘Be angry, and do not sin’: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil” (Ephesians 4:26–27, NKJV). Some translations translate the word for “place” as “foothold” (NIV) or “opportunity” (ESV).

The word for “place” or “foothold” literally refers to a physical location. In the Greek-speaking world, it came to metaphorically mean “opportunity.” The sense in Ephesians 4:27 is metaphorical. We are not supposed to give the devil any opportunity to influence our lives. He should not have any place in our lives because he is an enemy of God and wants to destroy God’s people (John 8:44; 1 Peter 5:8).

In the context of this passage, it is our anger that has the potential to give the devil an opportunity (Ephesians 4:26). Even righteous anger, if held too long, can become bitter and divisive. The longer we remain angry, the more opportunities we are giving the devil to sow hatred and discontentment. That is why Paul tells the Ephesian Christians not to let the sun go down on their anger, so that they do not give the devil any opportunities to twist the situation with his lies and deception. We must dispose of our anger as quickly as possible, so that we do not give any place to the devil.

How do we apply this passage? We must recognize that remaining angry with people gives the devil an occasion to wreak havoc in our lives. Anything that gives the devil an opportunity to influence our lives is bad for us by default. We should follow Paul’s advice, just a few verses later, to be “kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you” (Ephesians 4:32).

Bible Verse and Prayer for Today

This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.
—Psalm 34:6

Thoughts on Today’s Verse…
So few hear the cry of the poor or respond to the plight of the disadvantaged. If we are going to be true children of our Father, his values must become our own values (James 1:9-10, 2:1-9). The Father’s lost sheep must become our quest (Matthew 18:12-14; Luke 15:4-7). The Father’s wounded, broken, and impoverished sheep must be our priority for love (1 John 3:16-18). Let’s help those around us who are in need of finding God’s generous grace. They desperately need to know that when they call upon God, they are not forgotten. Let’s be our Father’s delivery system of grace and his partners in keeping this promise: “This poor man called, and the Lord heard him; he saved him out of all his troubles.”

Prayer

Gracious and Holy Father, please use me to be a delivery system for your grace to others. Give me a heart for the kinds of people Jesus welcomed and a willingness to help them generously in their times of need. I pray this in the name of Jesus, your lavish gift of grace. Amen and Amen

Bybel Vers en Gebed vir Vandag

Hierdie arme man het geroep, en die Here het hom gehoor; Hy het hom uit al sy probleme gered.
—Psalm 34:6

Bible Teaching of the Day

The phrase “resist the devil” is found in James 4:7 where the apostle James exhorts believers to resist the devil in order to cause him to flee or “run away” from us. To resist means to withstand, strive against, or oppose in some manner. Resistance can be a defensive maneuver on our part, such as resisting or withstanding the temptation to sin. Or it can be an action we take to use the only offensive weapon in the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:13-18), the sword of the Spirit which is the Word of God. Using the Scriptures to expose Satan’s lies and temptations is the most effective way to strive against and defeat them.

It is important to read the whole verse: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you” (James 4:7). Resisting the devil must be accompanied by submitting to God. A disobedient or unsubmissive believer will not see victory.

The apostle John records Jesus saying about Satan, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full” (John 10:10). As Christians, we have full life when we are aware of the reality of the presence of evil. As we struggle to stand firm in our faith, we must realize that the enemies we are up against are not merely human ideas, but real forces that come from the powers of darkness. The Bible says, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places” (Ephesians 6:12).

Why will resistance cause the devil to flee? Because he knows he cannot have victory over us if we are prepared to do battle against him. As mentioned before, the Bible assures us that we need only put on the full armor of God to be fully protected from evil and to actively resist it. There is nothing more frightening to Satan than a believer who is fully equipped with spiritual armor, beginning with the “helmet of salvation,” which protects our minds, and the “breastplate of righteousness,” which protects our hearts because it is the righteousness of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21). Only a true believer wears these because only those who have received God’s forgiveness by grace through faith have eternal salvation and the righteousness of Christ imputed to them.

Once fitted with the helmet and breastplate (literally, “chest protector”), we are then to take up other defensive weapons with which to battle Satan: truth, the readiness to proclaim the gospel, and the faith that shields us from all the flaming arrows of the evil one. The final piece of armor is prayer. We pray for strength to resist evil and to actively battle against it. We pray for wisdom in the conflict, and most of all, we remain steadfast in our prayers, both for the ability to resist the devil and also for other believers who struggle in the same battle. When the church, the body of Christ, stands united against evil, fully equipped with the armor of God, we present a formidable foe to the evil one and we will see God get the glory for the victory.

As a side note, the Bible never gives Christians the authority to “rebuke” the devil, only to resist him. Zechariah 3:2 tells us that it is the Lord who rebukes Satan. Even Michael, one of the most powerful of the angels, did not dare to accuse Satan, but rather said, “The Lord rebuke you” (Jude 1:9). In response to Satan’s attacks, Christians should redouble our efforts to clothe ourselves in the spiritual armor, wield the Word of God, and rely on His power through prayer. Instead of focusing on “rebuking” the devil, we should focus on resisting him with the full armor of God.

Today’s Devotional

In all the New Testament incidences where the word submit occurs, the word is translated from the Greek word hupotasso. The hupo means “under” and the tasso means “to arrange.” This word and a root of it are also translated by the words subject and subjection. The word’s full meaning is “to obey, put under, be subject to, submit oneself unto, put in subjection under or be under obedience or obedient to.” The word was used as a military term meaning “to arrange troop divisions in a military fashion under the command of a leader.” This word is a wonderful definition of what it means to “submit” to God. It means to arrange oneself under the command of divine viewpoint rather than to live according to one’s old way of life based on a human viewpoint. It is a process surrendering our own will to that of our Father’s.

The Scripture has a great deal to say about being in submission to the “higher powers.” This has reference to the establishment principles that God has ordained in our world—the government and the leaders, in whatever capacity, that God has placed in authority over us on this earth. Passages that teach this principle are Romans 13:1-7; Hebrews 13:17; 1 Peter 2:13-14; and Titus 3:1. The principle is that being in obedience to the authority over us, whatever that authority is, will bring a temporal blessing in real time here and now and, for the believer, reward later. The highest authority is God, and He delegates authority to others; so, in order to submit to God, we submit to the authority He has placed over us. You will notice that there are no caveats that distinguish between good or bad authority or even just or unjust authority. We are just to humble ourselves and obey as “unto the Lord.”

We are also told to submit ourselves to God (James 4:7). In Ephesians we read the wife is to submit to her husband as unto the Lord and the husband is to “love” his wife (Ephesians 5:22-25). The Apostle Peter writes, “Young men, in the same way be submissive to those who are older. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, ‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble’” (1 Peter 5:5). The theme here is one of humility. One cannot submit to God without humility. Obedience requires us to humble ourselves to surrender to the authority of another, and we are told that God resists pride—the opposite of humility—and the arrogance that fosters that pride.

Therefore, having a humble and submissive heart is a choice we make. That means as born-again believers we daily make a choice to submit ourselves to God for the work that the Holy Spirit does in us to “conform us to the image of Christ.” God will use the situations of our lives to bring us the opportunity to submit to Him (Romans 8:28-29). The believer then accepts His grace and provision to walk in the Spirit and not after the manner of the old nature. That work is accomplished by choosing to apply ourselves to the Word of God and to learning about the provisions that God has made for us in Christ Jesus. From the moment we are born again, we have all the provisions we need, in Christ, to become a mature believer, but we have to make the choice to learn about those provisions through study of the Word and to apply those provisions to our daily walk.

We have to choose to submit to God for the process of learning in order to grow spiritually. It is a process begun at salvation and ongoing with each and every choice that we make to submit ourselves to God. This process will continue until the Lord comes again or He calls us home. The wonderful thing about this is that, as the Apostle Paul so aptly states, “But we all, with unveiled face beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 3:18).

God does not require us to submit because He is a tyrant, but because He is a loving Father and He knows what is best for us. The blessings and peace that we gain from humbly surrendering and submitting ourselves to Him daily are a gift of grace that nothing in this world can compare to.

Hierdie proses sal voortduur totdat die Here weer kom of Hy ons huis toe roep.

Colorful Courage:

A radio commercial advises listeners to buy a watch with a colorful strap and wear it with clothes that are a completely different color. The commercial says that when others see your watch with the contrasting color, they will realize that you have “colorful courage” and will want to be just like you. There is something in us that always wants others to follow our example.
If you read 1 Corinthians 4 quickly, it may seem to you that Paul sounds a little arrogant when he recommends that we follow his example of self-sacrifice ( vs 6 ). But if we look at his words more closely, we can understand why he could say that. He could call people to follow his example because he followed the example of Christ ( 1 Cor 11:1 ), Christ, the greatest Servant of all.
The persecution he endured and the position he held in the church (1 Cor 4:10-17) were all the result of his following Jesus. When he indicated that even if the Corinthians had thousands of teachers in Christ, he would still be their father in the faith (vs 15), he acknowledged that Jesus was the only reason people could trust his teaching.
If we want people to follow us, we must follow Jesus. If we have the boldness to point others to Him, it is because of Him and not ourselves!

Others should follow our example only to the extent that we follow Christ’s!

Churches that once sat half-empty are filling up again. Young adults–some who hadn’t darkened a church door in years–are showing up, praying, and asking hard questions. ‘We’ll take care of that’ – Trump threatens Iran on nuclear renewal

President Donald Trump hinted that the U.S. military could strike Iran again if the Islamic Republic renews its nuclear development program.

Speaking at a U.S. Navy event in Virginia on Sunday, Trump said Washington would “take care of that,” referring to any potential rebuilding of Iranian nuclear sites.

He added that if Iran takes steps to restart its nuclear activity, “we’re not going to wait so long” before acting.

The president noted that the U.S. had previously struck Iran because it was “going to have a nuclear weapon within a month,” but stressed that American military action had significantly set back the clock on that process.

At a press conference in Tehran also on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi insinuated that Iran would stop cooperating with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), declaring that a recent agreement between the entity and Iran was “no longer relevant.”

The Attack by Hamas in Israel , may be God’s way of punishing Israel for turning the Holy Land into ” Sodom and Egypt ” just after Holy days .

Several hundred people attending an outdoor music festival named Supernova in an Israeli community near Gaza tragically lost their lives as a result of actions taken by Hamas operatives. The festival, originally intended to be a joyful and music-filled event, transformed into a harrowing incident that will be remembered as one of the most significant acts of terror perpetrated by members of Hamas.

Given that the conflict between Israel and Palestine, triggered by this event, has resulted in the loss of about 1,500 lives among both civilians and military personnel on both sides, it becomes crucial to revisit the Supernova festival.

What is the Supernova music festival?
The Supernova music festival, also recognized as the Universo Paralello Festival, took place in Re’im, Israel, which is a rural region situated in close proximity to the Gaza Strip border. This event coincided with the week long Jewish holiday of Sukkot, observed from Friday, September 29, 2023, to Friday, October 6, 2023. Sukkot is a holiday that marks the harvest gathering and serves as a commemoration of the divine protection granted by God to the children of Israel during their exodus from Egypt.

According to The Guardian, the Supernova music festival, billed as “a journey of unity and love” with “mind-blowing and breathtaking content”, began at around 10 pm on Friday, just hours after the end of Israel’s week-long Sukkot religious festival.

How did it turn to gunfire and kidnapping?
Thousands of young people attended the Nature Party, which became one of the first targets of Palestinian gunmen who breached Gaza’s border fence early on Saturday under cover of massive rocket barrages from Gaza.
Hamas operatives initiated gunfire towards approximately 3,500 young Israelis who had gathered for a festive night of electronic music in celebration of the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Some attendees were under the influence of alcohol or drugs, which heightened their confusion and fear.
While rockets were raining down, festival attendees reported that militants descended upon the festival location, with others strategically positioned near bomb shelters, targeting those seeking safety. Many of these militants, arriving in vehicles and on motorcycles, were equipped with body armor and were armed with AK-47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled grenades.
‘They Wanted to Dance in Peace. And They Got Slaughtered’

Israel’s Supernova festival celebrated music and unity. It turned into the deadliest concert attack in history – Rolling-stones Magazine

Rev 11:7 And when they shall have finished their testimony, the beast that ascendeth out of the bottomless pit shall make war against them, and shall overcome them, and kill them.
Rev 11:8 And their dead bodies shall lie in the street of the great city, which spiritually is called Sodom and Egypt, where also our Lord was crucified. – Apostle JOHN
