Deuteronomy 22:9–11 reads, “Do not plant two kinds of seed in your vineyard; if you do, not only the crops you plant but also the fruit of the vineyard will be defiled. Do not plow with an ox and a donkey yoked together. Do not wear clothes of wool and linen woven together.” These commands sound strange to us and cause many people to wonder why God would issue these kinds of laws.
These commands are found in the larger context of Deuteronomy 22:9—23:18 that includes many commands related to the seventh commandment of not committing adultery. The broader concept is one of not mixing together what was to stay separated. The underlying emphasis of these specific commands is spiritual.
Each of the three commands is about two different kinds: 1) two kinds of seed, 2) two kinds of animal, and 3) two kinds of yarn. The different seeds were not to be planted together; the different animals were not to plow together; and the different yarns were not to be interwoven.
There may be some practical reasons for the commands to keep these things separate. First, the command against mixing two kinds of seed sounds very familiar to Jesus’ parable regarding the wheat and the tares (Matthew 13:24–30). In the parable, an enemy plants the weeds (likely darnel, a wheat-like weed) in order to ruin the crop. The only way to spare the wheat was to wait until the harvest and separate the wheat from the weeds. A farmer would not intentionally mix these two types of seed.
Barring the yoking of an ox and donkey is more difficult to understand. Some interpreters understand the idea of “yoking” as a reference to crossbreeding the two animals (this is the emphasis in Leviticus 19:19). The command could also have been a means of preventing animal cruelty: an ox is much stronger than a donkey, and yoking the two together will quickly deplete a donkey’s strength. It is also important to note that the ox is a clean animal, while the donkey is unclean.
The prohibition against wearing clothing mixed of wool and linen is also difficult to understand. Some suggest that the focus is on dressing in clothing distinct from the pagan cultures that surrounded the Israelites.
Both spiritual and practical considerations were involved in these commands, as is often the case in the Mosaic Law. Even when the practical reasons are not fully clear, it is possible to find a spiritual purpose. God desires purity in His people, and there is to be no “mixture” between good and evil. “Do not be yoked together with unbelievers. For what do righteousness and wickedness have in common? Or what fellowship can light have with darkness? What harmony is there between Christ and Belial? Or what does a believer have in common with an unbeliever?” (2 Corinthians 6:14–15).

Bible Verse and Prayer for Today
God reminds us that our words and the way we use our speech significantly impact the quality of life we will enjoy. Nothing cuts short a vibrant life like evil speech and the lies we tell. These deadly evils unleash deception and destruction that we cannot control. This unleashed poisonous power not only harms those about whom and to whom we speak, but evil words and lies eventually boomerang, coming back to bring their deadly payload into our own lives. Let’s be people who speak what is right, good, wholesome, holy, true, and a blessing (Ephesians 4:20-5:12).
Prayer
Holy and Righteous God, my Father, purify my heart. Please cleanse my words of all deceit, slander, vulgarity, wickedness, untruth, exaggeration, mean-spiritedness, distortion, guile, and words that wound. May the words of my mouth and the intentions of my heart be pleasing to you, O God, my Lord and my Redeemer. In Jesus’ name. Amen and Amen.
Gebed
Heilige en Regverdige God, my Vader, reinig my hart. In Jesus se Naam. Amen en Amen.

Bible Teaching of the Day
Romans 12:1–2 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” As followers of Christ, we are not to be conformed to this world’s pattern.
In Romans 12:2, Paul has a “don’t” follow by a “do.” The negative command is to not conform to the pattern of this world. As the J. B. Phillips Bible translates it, “Don’t let the world around you squeeze you into its own mould,” which is what the Greek term for “conform”—syschēmatizō—means: “to form according to a pattern or mold.”
The same term is found in only one other place in the New Testament, which is 1 Peter 1:14: “As obedient children, do not be conformed to the former lusts which were yours in your ignorance.”
What exactly do Paul and Peter mean by telling Christians to not conform to the world? The Christian and the world are not to be “like-shaped.” That is, we should not allow ourselves to be pressed into following the corrupt customs, ungodly principles, or evil plans of action promoted by worldly men. The blessed man, according to Psalm 1:1, resists being conformed to the pattern of the world:
“Blessed is the one
who does not walk in step with the wicked
or stand in the way that sinners take
or sit in the company of mockers.”
Just as a boat is in the water, but not of the water, the Christian is in the world, but not of the world. Followers of Christ pattern their lives after their Lord (see 1 Peter 2:21), not according to the principles of the world, which the Bible says is controlled by the devil, the “god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4).
The reference to “world” is not the physical world, but rather the aion or age. The Bible says that Christians are delivered from this present evil age (Galatians 1:4), which Satan oversees and which is marked by idolatry, fleshly lusts, and rebellion. The believer lives by the powers of the age to come (Hebrews 6:5), even while residing in this world.
The key to escaping the world’s grip of conformity is the metamorphosis (rendered “transformed” in Romans 12:2) of the Christian’s mind. This is accomplished through God’s gift of the Holy Spirit who is working to change believers’ hearts and minds from within, so that their obedience to God might be natural and immediate (see Romans 7:6; 8:5–9; Jeremiah 31:31–34; 2 Corinthians 3:6–7; Ephesians 4:22–24).

Today’s Devotional
When we read of the “world” in the New Testament, we are reading the Greek word cosmos. Cosmos most often refers to the inhabited earth and the people who live on the earth, which functions apart from God. Satan is the ruler of this “cosmos” (John 12:31; 16:11; 1 John 5:19). By the simple definition that the word world refers to a world system ruled by Satan, we can more readily appreciate Christ’s claims that believers are no longer of the world—we are no longer ruled by sin, nor are we bound by the principles of the world. In addition, we are being changed into the image of Christ, causing our interest in the things of the world to become less and less as we mature in Christ.
Believers in Jesus Christ are simply in the world—physically present—but not of it, not part of its values (John 17:14-15). As believers, we should be set apart from the world. This is the meaning of being holy and living a holy, righteous life—to be set apart. We are not to engage in the sinful activities the world promotes, nor are we to retain the insipid, corrupt mind that the world creates. Rather, we are to conform ourselves, and our minds, to that of Jesus Christ (Romans 12:1-2). This is a daily activity and commitment.
We must also understand that being in the world, but not of it, is necessary if we are to be a light to those who are in spiritual darkness. We are to live in such a way that those outside the faith see our good deeds and our manner and know that there is something “different” about us. Christians who make every effort to live, think and act like those who do not know Christ do Him a great disservice. Even the heathen knows that “by their fruits you shall know them,” and as Christians, we should exhibit the fruit of the Spirit within us.
Being “in” the world also means we can enjoy the things of the world, such as the beautiful creation God has given us, but we are not to immerse ourselves in what the world values, nor are we to chase after worldly pleasures. Pleasure is no longer our calling in life, as it once was, but rather the worship of God.

The Tragic Flaw:
In literature, it is usually a serious flaw in the hero’s character that leads to his downfall. This was true of King Uzziah who was crowned king of Judah at the age of 16. For many years he served the Lord ( 2 Chron 26:4,5 ) and as he did so, the Lord blessed him abundantly. But things changed when once he had power, Uzziah became self-centered and that was the beginning of his end ( 2 Chron 26:15,16 ).
Uzziah entered the temple of God and offered incense on the altar of incense ( v. 16 ) something he was not authorized to do. He disobeyed God’s direct command. Perhaps pride led him to think that God’s commands did not apply to him. When Uzziah confronted the priests who rebuked him, the Lord punished him and leprosy broke out on his forehead (vs 18-20).
In literature and in ordinary life, we often see a famous person fall and suffering and shame befall such a person. King Uzziah was a leper until the day of his death. He lived in a place of seclusion, a leper and banished from the house of the Lord (2 Chron 26:21).
The only way we can prevent the nectar of praise from making us proud is to follow the Lord Jesus with a humble heart.
The value of silver is tested in a smelting furnace, that of gold in a furnace, that of a man by the praise he receives – Proverbs 27:21.

Bible Prophecy in the News
Trump’s Peace Deal: Could This Be The First Step Toward Daniel’s Final Covenant?

Trump has already boasted how this plan is not just about Gaza, but the start of something for the whole Middle East. This is just the first phase and clearly there are plans to bring about something bigger in the future. For students of Bible prophecy, all eyes are on what happens next as we see parallels to what scripture has already foretold.
After years of war, Israel and Hamas have agreed to move forward with a U.S.-brokered peace plan designed by President Donald Trump. The deal, which includes the release of hostages, phased ceasefires, and a new governing structure for Gaza, has been accepted by all parties and backed by an international coalition.
A “Board of Peace” — reportedly with potential oversight from both the United States and European figures like Tony Blair — will supervise the agreement’s implementation. Multiple nations will act as guarantors. The fighting will stop. Gaza will begin rebuilding.
For much of the world, this looks like a long-awaited miracle.
But for students of Bible prophecy, it also raises profound, even chilling, questions. Could this be the beginning of the peace Daniel foretold — the one that sets the final prophetic clock ticking?
- A Covenant “Confirmed” — Not Created Anew
Daniel 9:27 describes a figure who will “confirm a covenant with many.” The wording is striking — not “create,” but “confirm.” The Hebrew implies strengthening or enforcing an existing agreement.
Trump has already boasted how this plan is not just about Gaza, but the start of peace for the whole Middle East. This is just the start and clearly there are plans to bring about something bigger in the future. For now it is one step at a time until there is momentum for a much bigger peace plan with more nations involved.
If that sounds familiar, it should. Daniel’s prophecy suggests that a future world leader will one day make firm an already-existing covenant involving Israel and “the many.” In prophetic language, that act of confirmation marks the beginning of the final seven-year period of history — the time leading to the return of Christ.
Are we there yet? Almost certainly not. But this could be the kind of foundation that one day evolves into that covenant — an early stone in a structure that prophecy says will one day dominate the world’s attention.
- A Third-Party Guarantor — and a “Board of Peace”
What makes this peace deal unusual is its multi-national oversight. It’s not just between Israel and Hamas. It’s guaranteed by a coalition of outside powers: the United States, Arab nations, and reportedly, European involvement through figures like Tony Blair.
At the center of this structure is something called a Board of Peace — a global oversight body that will help govern Gaza and ensure compliance. That may sound administrative, but spiritually, it’s fascinating.
Revelation 13 and 17, and Daniel 2 and 7, all describe the rise of a final world power with ten leaders or “kings” who share authority under one dominant figure. The “beast with ten horns” in Revelation represents a political alliance that ultimately serves one ruler — the Antichrist.
Could Trump’s Board of Peace, or its future evolution, be a first step toward such a structure — a prototype for global oversight that later expands into a “council of ten”? It’s far too early to say. But it’s worth watching.
Prophecy tells us that the final covenant will not just be signed by Israel and its neighbors — it will be enforced and confirmed by an outside authority. This peace plan, for the first time, creates exactly that mechanism: a multinational body empowered to “guarantee” Middle Eastern peace.
That’s new. And it’s deeply significant.
- A Seven-Year Framework — The Key Piece To Be Watching For
While the current agreement doesn’t publicly specify a seven-year term, some reports suggest a long-term phased arrangement — possibly with multi-year checkpoints or reviews.
For prophecy watchers, that detail matters enormously. In Daniel’s timeline, the “final week” represents seven years — the period in which the Antichrist rises, Israel experiences false peace, the temple is desecrated, and the world moves toward the climactic return of Christ.
So while there is currently no talk of a seven-year term, this is a key prophetic watchpoint. If, at any stage, this peace plan or its successor is publicly fixed to a seven-year duration — or formally “confirmed” by a major world leader — we would be staring at one of the most dramatic prophetic markers of our lifetime.
For now, we simply note it — and stay watchful.
4. Israel at Peace — The Calm Before the Storm?
Ezekiel 38 speaks of a time when Israel will be “living securely, all of them without walls.” It describes a season of apparent calm — a peace so convincing that enemies later strike without warning.
If this peace plan holds, Israel may soon enjoy something like that: open borders, normalized trade, regional partnerships, and quiet streets after years of rockets and chaos. No doubt this will take years after the trauma of October 7th but this is truly what the people of Israel long for… peace.
And it will one day feel like peace. But sadly it will be the kind of peace prophecy calls false peace — a calm before judgment. The Apostle Paul warned, “When they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them” (1 Thessalonians 5:3).
5. What We Should Watch For Next
If we are witnessing the early stage of something prophetic, several key developments could follow:
Expansion of the Board of Peace: If it grows to include 10 nations or 10 leaders, that could mirror the “ten kings” imagery of Daniel and Revelation.
A broader regional accord: If this peace plan extends beyond Gaza to encompass Saudi Arabia,Lebanon, Syria and others — “with many” — that would fit Daniel’s phrase precisely.
A confirming world leader: Prophecy points to a single “prince” who enforces and guarantees peace. If a future figure rises to take credit or authority over such a covenant, that would be another crucial sign.
A defined seven-year term: As noted, if the peace structure ever becomes explicitly seven years in length, the prophetic countdown could truly be ready to begin.
Each of these would move the world closer to the fulfillment of Daniel’s words.
6. Watch, Pray, and Stay Grounded
It is tempting, in times like these, to look at the headlines and say, “This is it.” But God warns us to watch carefully, not carelessly. Prophecy is meant to prepare us, not panic us.
We must remember: God’s plan is perfect, His timing sovereign, and His wisdom far above ours. No leader, no treaty, and no board of peace will move one inch beyond what He allows.
Yet, Jesus also said, “When these things begin to happen, look up, for your redemption draws near.” (Luke 21:28).
So we watch — not in fear, but in faith. We discern world events with sober minds and open Bibles. And above all, we stay ready — because the same Lord who warned of false peace will one day bring everlasting peace when He reigns from Jerusalem Himself.
Until then, the headlines may keep coming, but prophecy will never change: the world is racing toward a covenant that only Christ Himself can truly fulfill.

Faith On Trial: the US Supreme Court To Decide Future Of Christian Counseling

With profound implications for counselors, clergy, and families nationwide, the stakes are high. If your not paying attention to this case you need to be.
On Tuesday, the U.S. Supreme Court heard oral arguments in a pivotal case examining whether Colorado’s 2020 ban on so-called “conversion therapy” infringes on First Amendment rights.
The practice — designed to provide minors grappling with same-sex attraction or gender dysphoria access to guidance and counseling — was outlawed under Colorado’s Prohibit Conversion Therapy for a Minor law. This legislation declares that any effort to “change an individual’s sexual orientation, including efforts to change behaviors or gender expressions, or to eliminate or reduce sexual or romantic attraction or feelings toward individuals of the same sex” is inherently harmful and ineffective. Violators, including licensed therapists, risk losing their professional credentials and facing penalties of up to $5,000 in fines.
With profound implications for counselors, clergy, and families nationwide, the stakes are high. Here’s a closer look at the key dimensions of this landmark clash.
The Case in Court
Central to this constitutional showdown is Chiles v. Salazar, a 2022 lawsuit filed by Kaley Chiles, a licensed Colorado therapist and faith-based counselor. Chiles argued that the ban unconstitutionally suppresses her First Amendment rights by outlawing talk therapy sessions that delve into clients’ unwanted same-sex attractions or gender dysphoria through methods like counseling, prayer, or behavioral strategies.
As Family Research Council emphasized, “Colorado has labeled her counsel ‘conversion therapy,’ denied religious exemptions, and is now trying to silence her. If they succeed, it sets a precedent that threatens every pastor, counselor, youth leader, and Christian parent in America.” Yet, FRC also pointed out the potential upside of a favorable ruling: “A ruling for Kaley Chiles would be a major step toward protecting free speech, defending religious freedom, and giving hurting people the opportunity to find freedom in Christ.”
The legal journey has been turbulent. A federal district court initially enjoined the ban on First Amendment grounds, viewing it as an overreach into protected speech. But the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals reversed course, classifying the prohibited practices as “professional conduct” subject to state regulation rather than free speech.
Now, the Supreme Court’s nine justices will weigh in. In anticipation, FRC issued an urgent call to action: “Join us in praying for truth and discernment while the Supreme Court hears oral arguments and deliberates on the case.”
The Reality on the Ground
Beyond the courtroom, the case underscores a chilling atmosphere for open dialogue on sensitive topics. Supporters of Chiles had organized a rally outside the Supreme Court to amplify their message of free speech and faith. But in a stark illustration of escalating tensions, the event was canceled over credible safety threats.
The Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), which is spearheading Chiles’s defense, had to make the difficult call. “We were told by our security team that it’s not safe, given the current political climate, for us to even be outside speaking about this issue,” ADF Senior Counsel Kate Anderson shared with The Daily Caller. “Instead of having free debate in our country, we’re seeing people resorting to violence and to threats. And that’s particularly sad [and] disturbing when we’re talking about a case that’s all about free speech and allowing people to debate the things that are most difficult and most controversial in our country, so that we can come to good solutions that will help and save kids.”
ADF CEO Kristen Waggoner echoed these concerns, framing the cancellation as a symptom of broader societal fractures. “Sadly, the usual supporting rally outside the Supreme Court will not take place. Experienced security professionals warned that the threats of violence at an outdoor event were too great.” She continued, “Our allies sponsoring the rally couldn’t simply ignore those threats. We’ve all witnessed the wave of violent attacks in recent weeks — many of which are politically motivated, with apparent ties to radical gender ideology. And that ideology is at the center of this case.”
Waggoner drew a sharp line between legitimate protest and intimidation: “It’s no coincidence that some who blur the line between speech and violence also feel justified using violence to stop speech.” She vowed resilience, adding, “And make no mistake: we won’t allow violent activists to have a permanent veto over public rallies either.” Waggoner asserted that it’s “imperative that Americans — both our policymakers and our people — redraw a bright line between the two. Violence is violence. Speech is speech. And speech should be free.”
Charting the Path Forward
Escalating threats may thwart outdoor assemblies, but they don’t appear to be dampening the resolve of faith communities turning to prayer amid the uncertainty.
Parents Beware: The U.N. Plans To End Homeschool Freedom

The United Nations just put a giant target on the backs of homeschooling worldwide. Under the guise of “human rights,” the U.N.’s controversial “education” bureaucracy is officially demanding that all governments regulate and control home education–if they allow it at all.

Within a decade, Gaza will be rebuilt. Aid will pour in. The same textbooks will quietly return, the same preachers will resume their sermons, and the same young minds will be shaped by the same old poison.
