Bible Teaching of the Day
My Jesus
Some people refer to the Lord using a possessive pronoun: “My Jesus,” they say. This wording may be simply an expression of confidence that they are His and He is theirs. In such a case, there is nothing wrong with saying, “My Jesus,” if the speaker is truly saved. As children of God, we can rightly say that He is my Shepherd, my Lord, my Redeemer, etc. (Psalm 23:1; 110:1; 19:14).
The apostle Paul speaks of “my God” who will meet the needs of believers (Philippians 4:19). Some of the great hymns of the faith also express the wonderful relationship that we have with Christ using terms of possession: “Blessed Assurance,” for example, begins with these words: “Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!” The hymn “My Jesus, I Love Thee” conveys a similar thought: “My Jesus, I love thee, I know thou art mine.”
Often, however, when someone says, “My Jesus,” he then proceeds to put words into Jesus’ mouth or attribute to Jesus an assumed attitude in order to support an unbiblical idea. Examples abound: “My Jesus doesn’t condemn people for who they love” (used to support homosexuality) or “My Jesus would never send someone to hell” (used to support universalism).
Forming a biblical response to any statement that begins with “my Jesus” would have to include verifying whether or not the statement is in line with the Bible. If “your” Jesus would never send someone to hell, for example, then what are we to do with verses like Matthew 25:41, which says Jesus sends some people to “eternal fire”? There is only one true, biblical Jesus. There is no different Jesus from the one presented in the Bible, just as there is no different gospel (Galatians 1:6–7). Speaking of “my” Jesus versus “your” Jesus, in this sense, is unbiblical.
It is easy to claim certain things on behalf of someone who is not physically present; however, just saying something does not make it true. For example, a child may tell the babysitter that his parents always let him stay up late and eat cookies, but the child’s claim may not be true. It’s best to let the parents speak for themselves in that case. Likewise, a person might make up things about what Jesus would do to prove a point or to justify an action or lifestyle. Better to let Jesus speak for Himself (in the Bible).
When someone says, “My Jesus does/doesn’t (fill in the blank),” he or she is really referring to “Jesus as I understand Him” or “Jesus as I think He should be.” But one’s understanding of Jesus may be faulty, and the true Jesus is not bound to conform to our idea of what is best. That’s why the accuracy of any statement beginning with “my Jesus” must be verified using the Bible. It is Scripture that testifies of who Christ is (John 5:39). Even if a particular topic or issue is not addressed in the Bible, we can use the character of Christ revealed in the Bible and the full counsel of Scripture to address any concern. If a person’s claim about what Jesus would do disagrees with Scripture, a biblical response would be to discuss the truth with that person in love (Ephesians 4:15). If the person clings to his or her unbiblical claim about what Jesus would do or say or think, it is best to pray for God to work in that individual’s heart to see the truth.
Not everyone who claims Jesus is really His. Jesus Himself said, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven” (Matthew 7:21). Sadly, there are false believers who claim Jesus but actually have no part with Him. The person who truly knows God, as revealed in Christ, will be with Him for eternity (Matthew 7:21; John 6:40). That person can boldly and joyfully say, “Jesus is mine.” And that person should only make claims about “my Jesus” that align with the real Jesus of the Bible.
Bybel Lering vir die Dag
My Jesus
As kinders van God kan ons tereg sê dat Hy my Herder, my Here, my Verlosser, ens. is (Psalm 23:1; 110:1; 19:14).
Die gesang “My Jesus, Ek Het U Lief” dra ‘n soortgelyke gedagte oor: “My Jesus, ek het U lief, ek weet U is myne.”

Today’s Devotional
Hear Then
Hear then, what the Word says!
Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. (Joshua 24:15)
No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24)
Elijah went before the people and said, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” (1 Kings 18:21)
You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world means enmity against God? Therefore, anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. (James 4:4)
Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them. For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world. The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever. (1 John 2:15-17)
I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. (Revelation 3:15-16)
This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose life, so that you and your children may live (Deuteronomy 30:19-20)
Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. (Joshua 24:15)
Vandag se Bemoediging
Hoor Dan
(1 Konings 18:21)
(Openbaring 3:15-16)
(Deuteronomium 30: 19)
Kies dan vir julle vandag wie julle wil dien: maar ek en my huis, ons sal die HERE dien. (Joshua 24:15)

Bible Prophecy in the News
Israelis mark 58 years since liberation of eastern Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria

On Sunday evening, Israelis began the annual celebration of Jerusalem Day, marking 58 years since the June 1967 reunification of the holy city and liberation of Judea and Samaria.
The festivities kicked off at sundown with a public prayer service and the unfurling of a giant Israeli flag at the Western Wall Plaza in the Old City, attended by religious and public officials.
Jerusalem Day celebrations are scheduled to continue throughout the day on Monday with a festive morning prayer at the Western Wall and a special broadcast for elementary school students, followed by the iconic Flags March with tens and thousands of participants expected to join.
Despite the ongoing war with Hamas, the parade received approval to march its usual route from the Jerusalem Great Synagogue, continuing into the Old City via Damascus Gate and ending at the Western Wall.
Signs of the Times
SYRIA AND LEBANON WANTS TO JOIN THE ABRAHAM ACCORD BEFORE SAUDI ARABIA

Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter: “There’s no reason now why we wouldn’t be moving into accommodation with Syria and Lebanon. We have dramatically changed the paradigm there.”
Israeli Ambassador to the US Yechiel Leiter says he believes that Syria and Lebanon could normalize relations with Israel before Saudi Arabia does.
In an interview with US conservative nonprofit PragerU, Leiter said, “There’s no reason now why we wouldn’t be moving into accommodation with Syria and Lebanon. We have dramatically changed the paradigm there. I’m very upbeat about the potential for an Abraham Accord with Syria and Lebanon, which may precede Saudi Arabia.”
Leiter added that talks with Saudi Arabia to join the Abraham Accords “weren’t very far away” in 2019. If US President Donald Trump had remained in office in 2020, it was probable that complete normalization with Saudi Arabia would have occurred.
Talks concerning normalization seemed to be bearing fruit before Hamas invaded Israel on October 7, 2023.
Documents recovered by the IDF in Gaza revealed that Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar viewed the terrorist massacre as an “extraordinary act” that would derail normalization between Saudi Arabia and Israel.
Concerning the potential of Lebanon joining the Abraham Accords, Leiter said, “There’s not a long history of jihadis becoming Jeffersonians.
“We also can’t allow jihadis on our border; we learned that from October 7. We’d like to see [the new leader of Syria, Ahmed] al-Sharaa move in a direction where he’s disbanding the jihadi groups, outlawing terrorist organizations like Hamas and Hezbollah, and protecting minorities.”
Leiter expressed cautious optimism, stating that the ceasefire with Lebanon must be “performance-based.”
“To the degree that Lebanon disarms Hezbollah, to that degree, we’re moving towards accommodation and peace,” he added. “We removed our troops. We have five installations on the border; we’ll remove them too.”
Regarding Qatar, Leiter said he is “more uncomfortable with them than anyone else.”
“It’s unfortunate to see journalists in certain areas of public discussion here supporting Qatar and saying that they’re actually allies of the West, and they’re not. They have an agenda, and it’s not a pro-Western agenda.”
Trump courted controversy when he accepted a luxury jet from the Qatari royal family and stated that he intended to use it for Air Force One.
Gog and Magog Update
IDF already controls about 77% of the Gaza Strip.

Ministry of Communications in Gaza, which is controlled by Hamas, claimed in a statement on Sunday that the IDF already controls about 77% of the Gaza Strip.
This is against the backdrop of the continuation of the war and Operation Gideon Chariots, which officially began last week.
Earlier today, it was reported, on behalf of sources in Gaza, that the terror organization is in its most difficult state and at its lowest point since it was established nearly 40 years ago – both in Gaza and in Judea and Samaria.
This is happening against the backdrop of more and more reports that Muhammad Sinwar was assassinated in Khan Yunis along with other senior members of the terror organization, which is causing the disappearance of key figures in the management of terrorism.
As reported last night, so far all the regular infantry and armored brigades have entered the Gaza Strip, with the paratroopers brigade being the last to enter the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours.
Places in the Bible
Dead Sea
Also known as Bahr Lut, Eastern Sea, Lake of Asphalt, Salt Sea, “Sea of Sodom and Gomorrah,” Sea of the Arabah, Sea of the Devil, “Sea of the Plain,” Sea of Zoar, Stinking Lake

Names of the Sea
Known in the Bible as the “Salt Sea” or the “Sea of the Arabah,” this inland body of water is appropriately named because its high mineral content allows nothing to live in its waters. Other post-biblical names for the Dead Sea include the “Sea of Sodom,” the “Sea of Lot,” the “Sea of Asphalt” and the “Stinking Sea.” In the Crusader period, it was sometimes called the “Devil’s Sea.” All of these names reflect something of the nature of this lake.
Biblical Period
The Dead Sea, unlike the Sea of Galilee to the north, does not figure prominently in the biblical narratives. Its most important role was as a barrier, blocking traffic to Judah from the east. An advancing army of Ammonites and Moabites apparently crossed a shallow part of the Dead Sea on their way to attack King Jehoshaphat (2 Chr 20). Ezekiel has prophesied that one day the Dead Sea will be freshwater and fishermen will spread their nets along the shore.

Lowest Point
The Dead Sea is located in the Syro-African Rift, a 4000-mile (6500-km) fault line in the earth’s crust. The lowest point of dry land on earth is the shoreline of the Dead Sea at 1300 feet (400 m) below sea level. That the lake is at the lowest point means that water does not drain from this lake. Daily, 7 million tons (6.4 mil t) of water evaporate but the minerals remain, causing the salt content to increase. Figures for the Dead Sea’s salinity today range from 26–35%.
Mineral-Rich
Nearly ten times as salty as the world’s oceans and twice as saline as the Great Salt Lake in Utah, the Dead Sea is rich with minerals. The Dead Sea Works company on the southwest side of the lake employs 1600 people around the clock to harvest the valuable minerals from the water. Potash is the most valuable of those extracted today and is used in the manufacture of fertilizer. The best article on the minerals in the Dead Sea is in the Encyclopedia Britannica.

Healthy Water
The unique concentration of the Dead Sea waters has long been known to have medicinal value. Aristotle, the Queen of Sheba, King Solomon, and Cleopatra were all familiar with this. Modern doctors still prescribe patients with skin ailments to soak in the waters of the Dead Sea. Because of the dropping level of the Dead Sea, the southern end is no longer under water, except for that which is channeled by aqueducts for the purpose of extracting minerals.

Introduction to the Bible – Bible Summary
Summary of the Book of
Romans
Author: Romans 1:1 identifies the author of the Book of Romans as the apostle
Paul. Romans 16:22 indicates that Paul used a man named Tertius to transcribe his
words.
Date of Writing: The Book of Romans was likely written A.D. 56-58.
Purpose of Writing: As with all Paul’s epistles to the churches, his purpose in writing
was to proclaim the glory of the Lord Jesus Christ by teaching doctrine and edify and
encourage the believers who would receive his letter. Of particular concern to Paul were
those to whom this letter was written—those in Rome who were “loved by God and
called to be saints” (Romans 1:7). Because he himself was a Roman citizen, he had a
unique passion for those in the assembly of believers in Rome. Since he had not, to this
point, visited the church in Rome, this letter also served as his introduction to them.
Key Verses:
Romans 1:16, “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the
salvation of every one who believes, first for the Jew, then for the Gentile.”
Romans 3:9-11, “What shall we conclude then? Are we any better? Not at all! We have
already made the charge that Jews and Gentiles alike are all under sin. As it is written:
‘There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands, no one who
seeks God.’”
Romans 3:21, “But now a righteousness from God apart from the law, has been made
known, to which the Law and Prophets testify.”
Romans 3:23: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.”
Romans 5:8, “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: while we were still
sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 6:23, “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ
Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:9, “You however, are controlled not by the sinful nature, but by the Spirit, if
the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does
not belong to Christ.”
Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love
him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
Romans 8:37-39, “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor
demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height, nor depth,
nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is
in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 10:9-10, “That if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in
your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart
that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are
saved.”
Romans 12:1, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your
bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God, this is your spiritual act of worship.”
Romans 12:19, “Do not take revenge, my friends, but leave room for God’s wrath, for it is
written: ‘It is mine to avenge; I will repay,’ says the Lord.”
Romans 16:17, “I urge you, brothers, to watch out for those who cause divisions and put
obstacles in your way that are contrary to the teaching you have learned. Keep away
from them.”
Brief Summary: Paul was excited about being able to minister at last in this church, and
everyone was well aware of that fact (Romans 1:8-15). The letter to the Romans was
written from Corinth just prior to Paul’s trip to Jerusalem to deliver the alms that had
been given for the poor there. He had intended to go to Rome and then on to Spain
(Romans 15:24), but his plans were interrupted when he was arrested in Jerusalem. He
would eventually go to Rome as a prisoner. Phoebe, who was a member of the church
at Cenchrea near Corinth (Romans 16:1), most likely carried the letter to Rome.
The Book of Romans is primarily a work of doctrine and can be divided into four
sections: righteousness needed, 1:18–3:20; righteousness provided, 3:21–8:39;
righteousness vindicated, 9:1–11:36; righteousness practiced, 12:1–15:13. The main
theme of this letter is obvious of course—righteousness. Guided by the Holy Spirit, Paul
first condemns all men of their sinfulness. He expresses his desire to preach the truth of
God’s Word to those in Rome. It was his hope to have assurance they were staying on
the right path. He strongly points out that he is not ashamed of the gospel (Romans
1:16), because it is the power by which everyone is saved.
The Book of Romans tells us about God, who He is and what He has done. It tells us of
Jesus Christ, what His death accomplished. It tells us about ourselves, what we were like
without Christ and who we are after trusting in Christ. Paul points out that God did not
demand men have their lives straightened out before coming to Christ. While we were
still sinners Christ died on a cross for our sins.
Connections: Paul uses several Old Testament people and events as illustrations of the
glorious truths in the Book of Romans. Abraham believed and righteousness was
imputed to him by his faith, not by his works (Romans 4:1-5). In Romans 4:6-9, Paul
refers to David who reiterated the same truth: “Blessed are they whose transgressions
are forgiven, whose sins are covered. Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will never
count against him.” Paul uses Adam to explain to the Romans the doctrine of inherited
sin, and he uses the story of Sarah and Isaac, the child of promise, to illustrate the
principle of Christians being the children of the promise of the divine grace of God
through Christ. In chapters 9–11, Paul recounts the history of the nation of Israel and
declares that God has not completely and finally rejected Israel (Romans 11:11-12), but
has allowed them to “stumble” only until the full number of the Gentiles will be brought
to salvation.
Practical Application: The Book of Romans makes it clear that there is nothing we can
do to save ourselves. Every “good” deed we have ever done is as a filthy rag before God.
So dead in our trespasses and sins are we that only the grace and mercy of God can
save us. God expressed that grace and mercy by sending His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on
the cross in our place. When we turn our lives over to Christ, we are no longer controlled
by our sin nature, but we are controlled by the Spirit. If we make confession that Jesus is
Lord, and believe that He is raised from the dead, we are saved, born again. We need to
live our lives offered to God as a living sacrifice to Him. Worship of the God who saved
us should be our highest desire. Perhaps the best application of Romans would be to
apply Romans 1:16 and not be ashamed of the gospel. Instead, let us all be faithful in
proclaiming it!
Inleiding tot die Bybel – Bybel Samevatting
Opsomming van die Boek van
Romeine
gelowiges in Rome.

Soos geskrywe is:
ewige lewe in Christus Jesus, onse Here.”
duiwels of die hede of die toekoms of enige kragte of hoogte of diepte of enigiets
wat daar is in Christus Jesus, onse Here.”
is. Hy sou uiteindelik as ‘n gevangene na Rome gaan.
geregtigheid nodig, 1:18–3:20; geregtigheid voorsien, 3:21–8:39; geregtigheid bevestig,
9:1–11:36; geregtigheid beoefen, 12:1–15:13.
hulle wie se oortredinge vergewe is, wie se sondes bedek is. Geseënd is die man wie se
sonde die Here hom nooit sal toereken nie.”
