The Symbols of the Word of God

Symbols in the Word of God = Fire

In Matthew 3:11, John the Baptist makes a profound declaration about the coming Messiah: “I baptize you with water, but he who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire” (ESV). John baptized with water to signify repentance, but he was preparing the way for One who would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire—a spiritual baptism, not a physical one.

John the Baptist was the forerunner of Jesus (see Mark 1:1–4). John called people to “repent, for the kingdom of heaven has come near” (Matthew 3:2). The word repent means to “change one’s mind.” In the Old Testament, repentance involved turning away from sin and turning to God (2 Chronicles 7:14; Ezekiel 33:11). Because the kingdom of heaven was near (or imminent), John preached that all should repent “for the forgiveness of sins” (Mark 1:4) and to show their change of heart by being baptized.

As John baptized and preached, he looked ahead to someone greater than himself (Matthew 3:11). In fact, the words he who is coming after me alludes to the messianic hope that had defined Judaism for generations: “But you, O Bethlehem Ephrathah, who are too little to be among the clans of Judah, from you shall come forth for me one who is to be ruler in Israel, whose coming forth is from of old, from ancient days” (Micah 5:2, ESV; cf. Isaiah 9:6–7).

John acknowledges that he is inferior compared to the Coming One who would baptize with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11). First, he says that the coming one is “more powerful” than he. Indeed, Jesus the Messiah is mightier than John in every respect: Jesus is divine (Colossians 2:9), sinless (Hebrews 4:15), and the Savior of the world (John 3:16). No one can compare to Him.

Second, John states that he is unworthy of carrying the sandals of the coming Messiah (Matthew 3:11). In other words, John is unworthy of performing the most menial task in the service of the Messiah. John the Baptist believed that the imminent arrival of the Messiah meant that John would need to step aside (John 3:30).

Last, John compares his water baptism to the Messiah’s baptism with the Holy Spirit and fire (Matthew 3:11). John’s baptism was a symbolic act of repentance, whereas the Messiah would inaugurate two types of spiritual baptism: a baptism with the Holy Spirit and a baptism with fire.

The baptism with the Holy Spirit occurs when a person is born again and made a part of the body of Christ. All believers in Jesus are partakers of the baptism of the Spirit: “For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink” (1 Corinthians 12:13).

The baptism by fire that John predicts could be seen in two ways:

  1. For those who confess their sins and repent, the baptism of fire alludes to the purifying and sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. The same symbol is seen in Acts 2 when the Holy Spirit descends on the disciples with a visible token: “They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them” (Acts 2:3).
  2. For those who refuse to repent, the baptism of fire has to do with judgment. “Our God is a consuming fire” (Hebrews 12:29, ESV). John the Baptist clearly had judgment in mind when he spoke of the baptism of fire, as he followed up that prediction with these words: “His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor, gathering his wheat into the barn and burning up the chaff with unquenchable fire” (Matthew 3:12). Those who continue in sin and unrepentance are destined for the lake of fire (Revelation 20:14–15, ESV).

John the Baptist’s announcement of the coming Messiah reflects the culmination of messianic expectations and the uniqueness of Jesus’ earthly ministry. Now that Jesus has ascended to heaven (Acts 1:9–12), we eagerly await His return (Philippians 3:20). And we continue to worship Him who baptizes with the Holy Spirit and fire.

Bible Verse and Prayer for Today

God has saved us and called us to a holy life — not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.
—2 Timothy 1:9

“Before the beginning of time!”
How do you understand when that was? God first thought of us at a time we cannot even begin to imagine. His reason for thinking of us was to demonstrate his kindness, grace, and call in our lives and to bring others to his side. Jesus has always been God’s plan, and we have always been his goal for that. Let’s make sure we respond by living his holy life in our day-to-day world.

Prayer

Thank you so much, Father, for knowing me and thinking of my needs even before there was a world. I dedicate this day and every day that follows to your honor as I seek to live a life that reflects your righteousness, holiness, mercy, and grace. In the name of Jesus, I pray. Amen

Bible Teaching of the Day

Leviticus mentions several times that the fire in the altar was to burn continuously. God wanted a perpetual fire there, and He must have had a reason for it.

Before the giving of the Law, God appeared to Moses “in flames of fire from within a bush. Moses saw that though the bush was on fire it did not burn up” (Exodus 3:2). God chose the appearance of a continuous fire when calling Moses to lead the people out of Egypt to a new land. Later, when God was leading the Israelites out of Egypt, He appeared as a pillar of fire at night (Exodus 13:21–22).

Then came the Law. Outside the tabernacle, the fire for the burnt offering was commanded to be kept burning; never was it to be extinguished. Leviticus 6:13 instructs, “The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.” This is mentioned three times in this chapter (verses 9, 12, and 13).

One reason the ongoing fire was so important is that it was started directly by God: “Fire came out from the presence of the LORD and consumed the burnt offering and the fat portions on the altar. And when all the people saw it, they shouted for joy and fell facedown” (Leviticus 9:24). The fire on the altar, therefore, served as a constant reminder of God’s power. It was a gift from heaven. No other source of fire was acceptable to God (see Numbers 3:4).

This fire also represented God’s presence. “God is a consuming fire” (Deuteronomy 4:24). The Shekinah glory was visible in the fire at the altar of burnt offering. This ongoing presence of God reminded the Israelites that salvation is of the Lord. The atonement made at the burnt offering could only be made through Him.

In the New Testament, John the Baptist predicted that the Messiah would baptize with the Spirit and with fire (Matthew 3:11; Luke 3:16). Fire served as a sign of judgment and refining, but it also reminds us of the Holy Spirit’s coming at Pentecost in the form of “tongues of fire” (Acts 2:3).

The continuously burning, divine fire at the altar of burnt offering helped remind the Israelites of the reality of God’s presence and of their need for God. The sacred fire endured throughout the 40 years in the desert and likely beyond that, as tabernacle worship continued until the time of King Solomon and the building of the Jewish temple. When the temple was dedicated, God once again lit the fire on the altar (2 Chronicles 7:1).

Today’s Devotional

To be “on fire” is to be eager, zealous, or “burning” with enthusiasm. Sometimes we speak of “lighting a fire under” someone, by which we mean “motivating” that person or “urging” him or her to action. Related expressions used in the church include on-fire Christian (“a zealous Christian”) and on fire for the Lord (“filled with enthusiasm for God”). Such idioms are not in the Bible, but we do find examples there of people with “burning” zeal and descriptions of the Lord’s work using terms associated with “fire.”

The Old Testament counterpart of an “on-fire” Christian is a person who had zeal for the Lord and acted on it. Examples include Phinehas (Numbers 25:10–11), David (1 Samuel 13:14; 1 Kings 3:6), Elijah (1 Kings 19:10–14), Hezekiah (2 Kings 18:1–7), and Josiah (2 Kings 22–23).

John the Baptist told the crowds about the coming Messiah, “He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire” (Matthew 3:11). That prophecy was first fulfilled on the day of Pentecost after Jesus’ resurrection. The disciples were huddled together in a house, fearing persecution, when the Holy Spirit came on each in the form of “tongues of fire” (Acts 2:2–3). Instantly, their fear was replaced with supernatural boldness and zeal for the Lord. These “on-fire Christians” went out into the streets of Jerusalem and fearlessly preached the gospel to huge crowds, including the same people who had recently murdered Christ.

The result was clearly a miracle. Three thousand people came to Christ after just one sermon (Acts 2:41). These new believers, who were certainly “on fire for the Lord,” exhibited love, sacrificial giving, and service to others. Phenomenal church growth continued as the apostles continued preaching and “everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles” (verse 43).

The “on-fire” apostles were marked by a boldness to serve God without compromise, whatever the personal cost or danger. The Sanhedrin was astonished by “the courage of Peter and John,” who were “unschooled, ordinary men” (Acts 4:13). When arrested and ordered to stop preaching about Jesus, the apostles replied, “Judge for yourselves whether it is right in God’s sight to obey you rather than God. For we cannot help speaking about what we have seen and heard” (verses 19–20). The next time they were arrested and ordered to stop, they replied, “We must obey God rather than men!” (Acts 5:29). When they were beaten, they rejoiced for being “counted worthy of suffering disgrace for the Name” (verse 41). Such is the behavior of those who are “on fire” for the Lord.

Before His crucifixion, Jesus revealed some of the difficulties coming to His followers. Not only would Christians face opposition from the rulers, but even from their own families: “I have come to bring fire on the earth, and how I wish it were already kindled! But I have a baptism to undergo, and what constraint I am under until it is completed! Do you think I came to bring peace on earth? No, I tell you, but division. From now on there will be five in one family divided against each other, three against two and two against three. They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law” (Luke 12:49–53).

The opposite of an “on-fire” Christian is a lukewarm one. The wealthy, complacent believers in Laodicea were rebuked by the Lord: “I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to vomit you out of my mouth” (Revelation 3:15–16). Lukewarm is the least desirable attribute for water or for spiritual commitment. Spiritually, a person who is “hot” or “on fire” for Christ can be very useful. But a person who is “lukewarm” toward Jesus possesses only tepid commitment and lives without joy, without love, and without the fire of the Spirit. “They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly” (2 Timothy 3:5, NLT).

Christians who are “on fire” for the Lord reject the safe, comfortable life in favor of accomplishing God’s will; they actively “pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness” (1 Timothy 6:11). They are “eager to do what is good” (Titus 2:14). Some believers today need to heed Paul’s advice: “I remind you to fan into flames the spiritual gift God gave you” (2 Timothy 1:6, NLT).

Bible Prophecy, Signs of the Times and Gog and Magog Updates with Articles in the News

Growing Prophetic Expectation And Confusion Surrounds Middle East Conflict

War in the Middle East has always stirred more than geopolitical analysis. It awakens prophetic expectations and hope.

As the conflict between Iran and the United States alongside Israel intensifies, something striking is happening across the world’s major faith communities. Islamic clerics are invoking the return of the Mahdi. Jewish rabbis are speaking openly about redemption and the coming of the Messiah. Some Christians are declaring that America or Donald Trump must play a specific role in the end times.

Prophetic expectation is rising everywhere — but so is confusion.

For Christians who take the Bible seriously, moments like this demand both discernment and humility. Scripture does give us a prophetic framework for the future. But it also warns repeatedly about deception, speculation, and misplaced hope.

To understand the moment, it is worth examining what each major faith tradition is currently saying — and how those interpretations compare with a careful reading of biblical prophecy.

Islamic Expectations: The Mahdi And Apocalyptic War

Within parts of Shiite Islam, especially in Iran, eschatology has always played a significant role in shaping worldview and politics.

Shiite theology anticipates the arrival of the Mahdi, a messianic figure who will appear during a time of global chaos, defeat Islam’s enemies, and establish justice across the world. Some interpretations within the tradition view massive regional war and instability as precursors to his appearance.

In recent days, some Islamic voices have framed the escalating confrontation with Israel and the United States in apocalyptic terms — portraying the conflict as part of a larger cosmic struggle between Islam and the West.

Even more striking, certain online commentators and clerics have begun labeling Donald Trump as a potential “antichrist-like” figure opposing the Islamic end-time deliverer.

Such interpretations highlight how deeply apocalyptic expectation runs across cultures. Yet they also underscore profound theological differences.

The Mahdi of Islamic expectation does not correspond to the biblical Messiah. In fact, many Christian prophecy scholars have long noted that elements of the Mahdi narrative more closely resemble characteristics the Bible attributes to the Antichrist — a charismatic global leader who rises during a time of turmoil and gathers widespread allegiance.

For many Islamic radicals turmoil is not merely endured — it can be welcomed as a necessary step toward redemption. That mindset creates a dangerous dynamic in which war, instability, and confrontation with Israel or the West are sometimes framed as spiritually meaningful and even necessary events rather than tragedies to be avoided.

Jewish Expectations: Redemption And The Coming Messiah

Within parts of the Jewish world, the current conflict is also being viewed through a prophetic lens.

One example drawing attention recently is Rabbi Mendel Kessin, a prominent Torah scholar who recently argued in a widely circulated lecture that the unfolding confrontation with Iran fits within a long-anticipated pattern of Jewish redemption.

According to Kessin’s interpretation, the geopolitical shifts unfolding today mirror ancient biblical themes — including the fall of enemies like Haman in the Book of Esther, the role of global powers aiding Israel, and the eventual rebuilding of the Third Temple in Jerusalem.

Some Jewish voices believe these events could accelerate the arrival of the long-awaited Messiah and usher in a new era for Israel.

Christians who love the Jewish people recognize something important in this perspective: the conviction that God is still actively guiding history and that Israel remains central in His redemptive plan.

Yet Christian prophecy also introduces a crucial warning.

According to the New Testament, the final phase of world history begins with the confirming of a covenant of peace, described in Daniel’s prophecy of the seventy weeks. That agreement launches the final seven-year period often referred to as the Tribulation.

At first, that peace appears genuine.

But Scripture warns that it is temporary — and deceptive.

The same leader who brokers peace ultimately reveals himself as the Antichrist.

This creates a sobering possibility within Christian prophecy teaching: that Israel, seeking peace and security, could one day embrace a global leader who initially appears to fulfill messianic expectations.

Christians therefore view the prophetic future not only with anticipation but also with concern for their Jewish friends — praying that when the true Messiah returns, they will recognize Him as Jesus.

Christian Confusion: When Speculation Replaces Scripture

Ironically, confusion is not limited to other faith traditions.

Within segments of the Christian world, speculation about the current war has also surged.

Some commentators have claimed the conflict proves that America must be the prophetic “Babylon” described inRevelation. Others portray Donald Trump as a kind of divinely appointed messianic figure leading a spiritual battle against evil.

There have even been reports of military leadership describing the confrontation in quasi-religious terms — framing it as a civilizational struggle between Christianity and radical Islam.

But here is where careful biblical interpretation becomes essential.

The Bible is actually silent about the specific role of the United States in end-times prophecy.

Many theories exist. Some speculate America could be Babylon. Others believe it may decline or merge into larger geopolitical alliances.

But Scripture never explicitly names it.

That means Christians must exercise restraint. It is one thing to analyze world events. It is another to declare, “Thus says the Lord,” when the Bible itself does not speak clearly.

Likewise, elevating any political leader to near-messianic status — whether Trump or anyone else — is a serious theological mistake.

God certainly uses world leaders for His purposes. Scripture shows this repeatedly with figures like Cyrus of Persia.

But our hope is never in political power.

Our hope is in Christ alone.

The True Christian Prophetic Posture

So how should Christians respond to a world suddenly obsessed with prophecy?

With seriousness — but also humility.

The Bible does describe a future period of global turmoil, deception, and ultimately redemption. It tells us that Israel will remain central to God’s unfolding plan. And it warns repeatedly that the world will be vulnerable to false messiahs promising peace and security.

Yet it also reminds believers of something even more important.

Prophecy was never meant to produce panic or worry.

It was meant to produce watchfulness.

The current war may or may not connect directly to future prophetic events. History is filled with conflicts that seemed apocalyptic in the moment but ultimately were not the final chapter. The war with Iraq is a more recent example in history. They were only part of the larger unfolding puzzle.

What matters most is that believers understand the Scriptures well enough to recognize the real thing when it comes.

Because across Islam, Judaism, and Christianity, prophetic expectation is rising.

But only one prophetic timeline ultimately matters — the one written in the Word of God.

And in that timeline, the final hope of the world is not a Mahdi, not a political leader, and not even a human peacemaker.

It is the road that leads to the return of Jesus Christ.

The Oil War Has Begun: U.S. And Iran Target Energy Lifelines

War has many fronts—land, air, sea, and cyberspace. But in the past 72 hours, the conflict between the United States and Iran appears to have opened a new and potentially more dangerous front: oil itself.

What began primarily as strikes on military bases, missile facilities, and command centers has shifted dramatically toward energy infrastructure. Oil depots, refineries, tanker routes, and export hubs are now being targeted across the Middle East. The message from both sides is clear: if you cannot defeat your enemy quickly on the battlefield, you can still damage them—and the world—through the price of energy.

The result is a rapidly escalating “oil for oil” war, where each side seeks to disrupt the other’s energy lifeline.

The Fires Over Tehran

One of the most striking images of the war so far came this week when massive flames lit the night sky over Tehran after strikes hit major fuel storage facilities. Witnesses described enormous columns of fire and smoke rising from the city’s oil depots after multiple storage tanks and fuel transfer facilities were hit.

These depots were reportedly tied to Iran’s military fuel supply network, but the symbolism was unmistakable: Iran’s energy backbone had been placed directly in the crosshairs.

It marked a turning point in the war.

Iran Strikes Back at the Oil Network

Iran did not take long to retaliate—and it did so in a way designed to send shockwaves through global markets.

Rather than focusing solely on U.S. forces, Iranian attacks have increasingly targeted the broader energy network of American allies across the region.

In the past week alone, at least five major oil-related incidents have highlighted this new strategy:

Drone attack on the Ras Tanura refinery in Saudi Arabia, one of the kingdom’s largest oil processing hubs. Even limited damage forced temporary shutdowns and rerouting of exports.

Missile and drone strikes across Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Province, including energy infrastructure linked to oil exports.

Attacks on ports and tankers near Oman, including oil tanker strikes that killed or injured crew members and disrupted shipping routes.

Drone and missile launches toward Gulf energy facilities, including infrastructure tied to exports in the UAE and neighboring states, forcing shutdowns and raising regional security alerts.

Missile strike on Bahrain’s BAPCO oil refinery, which triggered fires and emergency response operations at one of the island nation’s key petroleum facilities.

The result is not simply battlefield damage. It is a deliberate attempt to weaponize global energy markets.

Oil Prices Are Already Surging

The strategy is working.

Oil prices have already jumped dramatically since the conflict intensified. Global benchmarks have surged as markets price in the possibility of prolonged supply disruptions across the Persian Gulf.

Analysts now warn that if disruptions worsen—especially if shipping slows through the Strait of Hormuz—oil could spike dramatically as a large share of global supply moves through that narrow passage.

That chokepoint is critical: nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply moves through the Strait each day.

Even partial disruptions have already rattled global markets and triggered warnings about sustained energy volatility.

In other words, the war’s newest battlefield may be thousands of miles from Tehran or Washington—but it is already hitting the global economy.

The First Economic Shockwaves

The first industry to sound the alarm has been aviation.

Airlines depend heavily on jet fuel, which can account for roughly 20% of operating costs. As oil prices spike, airline executives have already warned that ticket prices will rise if the conflict continues.

For travelers, that could mean higher airfare within weeks.

But aviation is only the beginning.

Higher oil prices ripple across nearly every sector of modern life:

  • Shipping costs increase
  • Food prices rise due to transportation costs
  • Manufacturing becomes more expensive
  • Inflation accelerates

Even temporary disruptions in Middle Eastern energy infrastructure have historically triggered global inflation shocks—and this conflict is already moving in that direction.

A Dangerous New Phase of the War

What makes this moment especially dangerous is that neither side needs to destroy massive oil fields to cause economic chaos.

Simply creating uncertainty is enough.

If tankers avoid the Persian Gulf…
If refineries shut down out of security concerns…
If insurers refuse to cover ships in the region…

Global supply can tighten almost overnight.

This is why energy markets react so violently to even limited strikes.

And it explains why the war may now evolve into a contest of economic pressure rather than purely military victory.

The Real Battlefield: Global Markets

In a sense, the new strategy is brutally simple.

The United States and its allies can strike Iranian energy infrastructure to choke off revenue for Tehran.

Iran, in response, can threaten the oil lifeline of the entire Middle East.

Both sides understand the same truth: whoever disrupts oil the most can shake the world economy.

And when oil becomes the weapon, everyone becomes a participant in the war—whether they realize it or not.

From airline tickets to gasoline pumps to grocery store prices, the conflict in the Middle East may soon be felt in everyday life around the globe.

The fires burning over oil depots tonight are not just battlefield explosions.

They may be the first sparks of the next global economic shock.

Trump: Ending Iran war will be ‘mutual’ US-Israeli decision

The White House now estimates the war against Iran could last four to six weeks.

President Donald Trump said the United States and Israel are fully aligned on a timeline for concluding the war against Iran, stressing that the decision to end the conflict would consider the opinion of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Speaking to The Times of Israel on Sunday, Trump said he had been discussing the timeframe for ending the military campaign with Netanyahu.

He added that the decision on when to stop fighting would be “mutual,” while noting that Washington would ultimately have the final say.

“I’ll make a decision at the right time, but everything’s going to be taken into account,” Trump told ToI.

Trump emphasized that the war against Iran was necessary in order to protect the existence of the Jewish state and ensure stability in the region.

“Iran was going to destroy Israel and everything else around it… We’ve worked together. We’ve destroyed a country that wanted to destroy Israel,” Trump said.

Trump was also asked whether Israel would be permitted to continue striking Iran after the United States ends its military operations against the Islamic Republic.

If US & Iran reach deal Israel will attack Iran’s ballistic missile sites alone
“I don’t think it’s going to be necessary,” Trump replied.

The president initially suggested that the campaign against Iran would last only a few days. Since then, however, he has expanded that timeframe.

More recently, Trump has avoided giving an estimate for how long the war will continue.

Last Friday, White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt said the current expectation is that the war could last between four and six weeks.

Trump also predicted that Iran’s defeat would have broader consequences across the region, particularly for Iran-backed terror groups.

He said the outcome of the war could pressure organizations such as Hamas to disarm.

“Many people will disarm because of [the war against Iran],” he said. “Because right now, Iran is in a position that it’s never known before, and it’s only going to get worse for them.”

The 4 Books of Judgment and the 5th Book – Book of Life

Rev 20:11~14 And I saw a great white throne, and him that sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away; and there was found no place for them.

And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God: and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works.

And the sea gave up the dead which were in them; and death and hell gave up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works.

And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire: which is the second death.

WHAT ARE THE BOOKS OF JUDGMENT

Book 1 – The Book of Secrets

Rom 2:16 in the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ, according to my gospel.

Book 2 – The Book of Memory

Luke 16:25 But Abraham said, Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: and now he is comforted, but thou art in torments.

Book 3 – The Book of Words

Mat 12:36~37 But I say unto you, That every idle word that men shall speak, they shall give account thereof in the day of judgment.

For by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words thou shalt be condemned.

Book 4 – The Book of Acts / Works

Mat 16:27 For the Son of Man is ready to come in the glory of his Father with his angels, and then he will reward each person according to his deeds.

Make sure all the entries in the Books are under the Blood of forgiveness!!!!
