Bible Teaching of the Day

To counter the false teachers who were misapplying and undermining the truth of God’s Word, the apostle Paul urged Timothy to work hard and study diligently to be sure that he had God’s approval when handling the Scriptures: “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2 Timothy 2:15, KJV).

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God” is antiquated language that challenges the understanding of current-day Bible readers. “Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved” (NIV) and “work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval” (NLT) are more modern renderings that bring transparency to the original text for today’s readers of the Bible.

False teachers were a problem in the early church, just as they are now. Pastors and church leaders are charged with the responsibility of keeping God’s people safe from gangrenous teachings that spread and choke out the truth of Scripture and lead to ungodly living (2 Timothy 2:16–17). Paul tells Timothy to warn God’s people “before God against quarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen” (2 Timothy 2:14). Timothy was to command the people in the presence of God to stop fighting over words and stop listening to those who were stirring up trouble with their pointless, hair-splitting debates. The result of getting caught up in such ideas—building theological mountains out of mere foolish talk—would be spiritual ruin.

Show thyself approved means to present yourself to God in such a way that you receive His approval. Followers of Jesus Christ and especially pastors and teachers are to work persistently to understand and explain the truth of God’s Word correctly. In the original language, the word rendered “approved” in 2 Timothy 2:15 carries the idea of being “tried and true,” or tested and proven genuine. Receiving God’s approval seems to suggest having passed a vetting process (see 1 Thessalonians 2:4).

God’s approved workers handle the word of truth correctly. Rightly dividing literally means “cutting straight” in the original Greek. Pastors and teachers are to be skilled workmen of God’s Word who carefully and thoroughly search the revelation of God in Scripture, not deviating from or distorting its message in any way (Deuteronomy 4:2; 12:32; Proverbs 30:5–6; Revelation 22:18–19). They cut straight lines and help build a stable foundation that will stand the test of time (2 Timothy 2:19). The approved worker is like the Bereans who “received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true” (Acts 17:11). He studies God’s Word and then seeks to apply it to his own life.

The unapproved worker swerves from the truth, cutting crooked lines with meaningless talk, godless chatter, false knowledge, and departures from the faith (1 Timothy 1:6; 6:20; 2 Timothy 2:16–18). He involves himself “in foolish discussions about spiritual pedigrees or in quarrels and fights about obedience to Jewish laws. These things are useless and a waste of time” (Titus 3:9, NLT). Paul describes the unapproved worker as “arrogant” and someone who “lacks understanding. Such a person has an unhealthy desire to quibble over the meaning of words. This stirs up arguments ending in jealousy, division, slander, and evil suspicions” (1 Timothy 6:4, NLT).

Christian teachers who have proven themselves and received God’s approval have no reason to be ashamed. Paul’s target as a minister of Jesus Christ was to “never be ashamed, but . . . continue to be bold for Christ” and “bring honor to Christ” for the rest of his life (Philippians 1:20, NLT).

Paul’s directive to Timothy to “show thyself approved” echoes in his unapologetic commendation of himself before God as his witness: “Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God” (2 Corinthians 4:1–2).

Today’s Devotional

After Jesus Christ was raised from the dead, Mary Magdalene went to the disciples with the news: “I have seen the Lord!” (John 20:18) Shortly thereafter Jesus appeared to His disciples. When the disciples saw Thomas who wasn’t there, they said to him. “We have seen the Lord!” (John 20:25)

Many times, I have desired to be like Jesus. Many times, I wished people looking at me would be able to say, “I have seen the Lord!” However, like John I truly can say that I’m not even worthy to untie His sandals yet I long to be like Jesus. Many times, I have read Ephesians 5:1 in which we are instructed to be followers of God. But being a follower is not just being someone walking in God’s footsteps, but it also means following Jesus Christ’s example or be an imitator of Jesus Christ.

Like others I sang, “To be like Jesus, to be like Jesus. All I ask, to be like Him.” I to have sung “Jesus, be Jesus in me. No longer me but Thee.”

But how do I know what Jesus was like? To define the character or being of Jesus we need to take a look at Philippians 2: 1- 8 which reads,

“Therefore, if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any common sharing in the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and of one mind. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others. In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death— even death on a cross!”

Thus said, a better list of the character qualities of Jesus can be found in Galatians 5.22-23) Jesus was the epitome (personification) of the fruit of the Spirit for He perfectly lived out love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control…”

Oh, if only I could be like Jesus. If anyone else feels like this, let us pray, “All I ask, to be like Jesus. Jesus be Jesus in me as I lay myself down in full surrender to you. Amen”
And now? Now we must do what Jesus would have done. Now we must live out Jesus.

(Johannes 20:25).

Ek het ook al gesing “Jesus, be Jesus in me, no longer me but Thee.”

Amen”

Signs of the Times in the News

In the News –  Scientists have spotted a giant hole in the Sun. This coronal hole is unlike the ones previously spotted in the sun 800 000 km wide. For starters, the gap is located in the Sun’s equator, not the poles. It also does not help that the hole has surfaced at a very usual phase in the Sun’s activity cycle. What does this mean for us? Should earthlings be worried? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZk4dQSRHbs

Jesus is the one that Prophesied about the Sun’s Future, Big Changes Just before his 2nd Coming and during His Second Coming

Mat 24:29  Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:

Mat 24:30  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.

Mat 24:31  And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.

When will this Happen?   Jesus showed John that is will Happen 3 Years after the Antichrist takes over the 3rd Jewish Temple as the 666 Head office.  During the Wrath of God just after the Great Tribulation

The Sun will explode and burn out days Prior to the 2nd Coming at the 4th Plaque

Rev 16:8  And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.

Rev 16:9  And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.

Rev 16:10  And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

Rev 16:11  And blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and repented not of their deeds.

Jesus and John Confirms that this takes place at the 2nd Coming of Jesus, just before the Battle of Armageddon called the 6th Seal. The 7th Seal, 7th Trumpet and 7th Plaque is the Battle of Armageddon.

Rev 6:12  And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;

Rev 6:13  And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.

Rev 6:14  And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.

Rev 6:15  And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;

Rev 6:16  And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:

Rev 6:17  For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?

What will Happen on Earth when the sun Burns out?

Our atmosphere will get stripped away. Our oceans will evaporate. For a while, we’ll look something like Venus, locked in a choking, carbon dioxide atmosphere.

And then it gets worse.

In the final stages of hydrogen fusion, our sun will swell and swell, becoming distorted and bloated — and red. The red giant sun will consume Mercury and Venus for sure. It might or might not spare Earth, depending on exactly how large it gets. If the sun’s distended atmosphere does reach our world, Earth will dissolve in less than a day.

But even if the sun’s expansion stops short, it won’t be pretty for Earth. The extreme energies emitted by the sun will be intense enough to vaporize rocks, leaving behind nothing more than the dense iron core of our planet.

The outer planets won’t enjoy the increased radiation output from the sun either. The rings of Saturn are made of almost pure water ice, and the future sun will simply be too hot for them to survive. The same goes for the ice-locked worlds orbiting those giants. EuropaEnceladus, and all the rest will lose their icy shells. They will form Hail that may strike the Earth

At first, the increased radiation will blast the four outer planets, stripping away their atmospheres, which are just as fragile as that of a terrestrial planet. But as the sun continues to swell, some of the outer tendrils of its atmosphere can find their way to the giants, traveling through funnels of gravity. Feeding on that material, the outer planets can gorge themselves, becoming far larger than they ever were before.

But the sun still won’t be done. In its final stages, it will repeatedly swell and contract, pulsing for millions of years. This isn’t the most stable situation, gravitationally speaking. The deranged sun will push and pull the outer planets in odd directions, potentially drawing them into a deadly embrace or kicking them entirely out of the system.

The Sun is Currently getting ready for the 2nd Coming of Jesus!!!
