Bible Teaching of the Day

Behold I am coming quickly!

John wrote the book of Revelation near the end of the first century AD, and the book begins its conclusion with Jesus’ admonition, “Behold I am coming soon!” (Revelation 22:7, ESV). The New King James Version reads, “Behold I am coming quickly.” Nearly two thousand years ago, Jesus made this proclamation, and He still hasn’t come back yet. It is fair to ask what Jesus meant when He said, “Behold I am coming soon.” The Greek word translated “soon” here is tachus, a word that denotes immediacy and suddenness.

To understand the immediacy and suddenness of Jesus’ coming, even though it has been delayed for two millennia, consider Jesus’ exhortation that His listeners should make friends “quickly” (tachus) with their opponents at law “while you are still together on the way” (Matthew 5:25). The speed of the action itself is to be set in motion when the conditions are in place—“when you are on the way to court” (NLT).

After the resurrection of Jesus, an angel spoke to Mary Magdalene and the other Mary, telling them to come see the place where Jesus had been lying and to go “quickly” (tachus) and tell the disciples (Matthew 28:6–7). Per the angel’s instructions, before the women could go “quickly,” they had to see the place where Jesus had been. When they left, they did so “quickly” (Matthew 28:8), but, even then, they encountered Jesus and talked with Him (Matthew 28:9–10). So, they moved with haste, but there were several circumstances that delayed their arrival to tell the disciples the good news. In the same way, the book of Revelation presents a series of events that will precede Jesus’ return to earth. He says, “Behold I am coming quickly” (NKJV), but He doesn’t say He is coming right away. Jesus’ coming will be sudden and hasty, but there are many prophetic fulfillments that will happen before He comes.

Paul illustrates the idea of suddenness coupled with delay in 1 Corinthians 15 when he unveils the mystery that we shall not all sleep but we shall all be changed (1 Corinthians 15:51). In a moment so sudden that it can be compared to a twinkling of an eye (1 Corinthians 15:52), that transformation will occur. The event will happen “quickly,” but it might not happen soon (though imminent, the rapture has been delayed for two millennia). When it happens, it will happen suddenly and completely. Even though Paul doesn’t use the word tachus in this context, he shows that an event can happen quickly even if it is preceded by a lengthy delay.

Jesus says, “Behold I am coming quickly!” When He comes, He will judge and reward. The prophecy about His sudden coming is given to encourage believers that they can trust Him, that the time is short, and that they should make the most of the time they are given (see Ephesians 5:16).

Bybel Lering vir die Dag

Kyk, Ek kom gou!

Today’s Devotional

“THE LOVE OF GOD IS GREATER by FAR”

Oh, how often I have tried to put into words how much God loves us? How often have I tried to explain the depth or the extent of God’s love? Still, there is no words that can fully define or fully explain the love of God.

Frederick Martin Lehman wrote, and many sung.

The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell;
it goes beyond the highest star, and reaches to the lowest hell;
the guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled, and pardoned from his sin.

O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure:
the saints’ and angels’ song!

Still, even this song cannot capture the vastness of God’s love. For God loved us so much that He did not spare His own Son, to save deliver and heal us from the bondage of sin. (Romans 8:32) Still as if this is not enough, God sent us His Holy Spirit, not just to comfort us, but to teach us all things and to remind us of everything Jesus have said. (John 14:26) And then, simply to assure us of God’s love, Paul wrote that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:38-39)

And since we know without a shadow of doubt that God loves us and that we can rely on His ever-enduring love, will we give thanks unto the Lord? (See 1 John 4:16 and Psalm 136:26) Will we love the Lord our God with all our heart and with all our soul and with all our mind and with all our strength as instructed in Mark 12: 30? Will we be obedient to God, His Word, and His commandments as instructed in John 14:15? Lastly, will we continue to love others for God first loved us according to 1 John 4:19?

“Oh Lord!” I pray, “Thank you for your love. Let your love be revealed to me, in me and through me, I pray in Jesus’ name. Amen and Amen”

The love of God is greater far than tongue or pen can ever tell;
it goes beyond the highest star and reaches to the lowest hell;
the guilty pair, bowed down with care, God gave His Son to win;
His erring child He reconciled, and pardoned from his sin.

O love of God, how rich and pure!
How measureless and strong!
It shall forevermore endure:
the saints’ and angels’ song!

(Romeine 8:38-39)

“O Here!” bid ek, “Dankie vir U liefde. Laat U liefde vir my ook in my en deur my geopenbaar word. Ek bid dit in Jesus Naam. Amen en Amen”

Bible Prophecy in the News

3 Signs From Daniel That Signal The End of the World

Did you know that Bible prophecy constitutes a whopping 31% of the Bible? God’s overall plan for the ages appears to be rather like a 100-piece puzzle, and so far, He has only provided 75 pieces. One can make out the outline of a picture, but until certain events unfold, which then add another new piece to the puzzle, the picture remains incomplete.

“But as for me, I heard but could not understand; so I said, ‘My lord, what will be the outcome of these events?'” (Daniel 12:8).

The prophet Daniel had been listening intently to the angel Gabriel pronouncing a series of mind-blowing messages. God was revealing the rise and fall of great empires, leading eventually to a global empire led by a despot whom the Apostle John would later call the Antichrist, with its inevitable demise at the divine hand of God.

Of course, all these great empires were still so far off in the future, from Daniel’s perspective, that he was obviously quite perplexed by what he was hearing. Rubbing his wrinkled forehead in confusion, Daniel requested God’s mighty messenger to provide some elaboration. To his dismay, the angel replied with a firm, “No way!” He explained that Daniel could never truly understand these prophecies because too many events needed to happen first before they could be fulfilled and, therefore, properly understood.

Fortunately, Gabriel added there would be three major signs that would mark the “time of the end” in which the finale in this series of events would culminate. We find the source text for these signs in Daniel 12:4. “But as for you, Daniel, conceal these words and seal up the book until the time of the end; many will go to and fro, and knowledge will increase.”

He added that only those living in the end times and who were “wise” (meaning spiritually discerning) would at last understand these prophecies. They would recognize that the exponential increase in knowledge, travel, and prophetic understanding would herald the end of these human-controlled kingdoms with the second advent of the Messiah establishing His earthly millennial reign (Daniel 12:3-10).

1) Increase in Knowledge

Let’s explore the first sign–a great increase in knowledge.

Unless you’re a toddler playing with your mother’s Android, you have lived long enough to realize that the way we obtain information has changed a lot–a whole lot–over the last few decades. Let’s not even talk decades but in years. The child attaining adulthood today can, with a shudder, look back to the early 2000s when there was no Wikipedia, no Gmail, no social media like Facebook and Twitter (now called X), no cloud computing, no tablets, no smartphones, and certainly no high-speed Internet connectivity.

Remember the sound a modem made when connecting a surfer to the World Wide Web? Ask a ten-year-old that question today and they couldn’t even tell you. Even Bob Dylan couldn’t have imagined how much things would be changing when way back in the stone ages of 1963 he sang, “The Times They Are A-changin'”.

Times a-changin’ wasn’t always the way things were, though. For thousands of years of human history, life remained pretty much the same. Sure, every 300 years or so the world eked out an innovation that revolutionized the world, moving humanity from say the Bronze Age to the Iron Age. But, for the most part, limitations in travel left most inventions cordoned off to a tiny corner of the world.

But then, AD 1454 finally arrived, and the German goldsmith Johannes Gutenberg released the very first mobile, reusable type press (like an antique photocopier). At last, words of knowledge could be mass-copied onto paper and distributed far and wide. The age of the printed book revolutionized the world, and Gutenberg started with the fount of all knowledge–the Bible.

Were you surprised to learn from your history classes that the most world-changing advances were made just in the last 150 years or so? And, as we got closer to our day and age, how each discovery came about faster and faster, as one breakthrough was achieved on top of another? This increasingly rapid acceleration in learning is called the Exponential Curve. Our knowledge has been experiencing exponential growth as one breakthrough builds upon another at an increasingly faster and faster pace.

What would you say was the most important discovery that has helped us facilitate the advent of this massive explosion in the growth of knowledge? If you answered “the computer,” then you’d be correct.

When it comes to the exponential curve for computers, the old joke is, “How do you know when your computer is obsolete?” The answer is, “When you take it out of the box.” That’s not too far from the truth, though, for computer companies double computer processing speeds about every 18 months. Known as Moore’s Law (after Intel co-founder Gordon Moore), this is just one manifestation of the greater trend in how all change happens to be occurring at an exponential rate.

In 2023, quantum computers began processing at speeds equivalent to the human brain. By 2045, in a mere quarter of a century, Moore’s Law predicts we will possess computers with the computational ability equivalent to the entire human race!

Not only has the exponential curve in all areas of computer technology increased our knowledge to stupendous levels, but computers have aided in all the major scientific discoveries of our day. We don’t need to cram so many facts into our brains anymore either, for the ability to easily store and access data means we can continue to learn like we’ve never learned before in human history.

The exponential curve is not just limited to computers. Other advances in biomedicine, space science, chemical engineering, human engineering, and all the other sciences have been climbing faster and steeper up their exponential curves with every passing day.

It’s expected that in the next five years, the world’s technology will be 32 times more advanced than it is today. It’s also been estimated that 65% of today’s kindergarteners, once they finally graduate from college, will ultimately end up working in completely new jobs that, at this time, don’t yet even exist.

Consider that just a hundred years ago the information most people learned throughout their entire lifetime equated to the content of one Sunday edition of The New York Times. Our ability today to practically consume that same amount of information daily shows just how far mankind’s knowledge has increased in a very short amount of time.

Today’s exponential increase in knowledge points to the fact that we are living in the prophesied end times and that Jesus Christ is coming soon.

2) Increase in Transportation

Notice in that same prophecy the angel told Daniel that, besides a great increase in knowledge, “many will go to and fro” (Daniel 12:4). This tremendous increase in travel would also occur in the same context, that being the end times. God was revealing that once people began to go to and fro, both farther and faster, those final years before Christ returned to set up His Millennial Kingdom were finally upon us.

Stop and think how people traveled just a single century ago. Most roads weren’t even paved yet and were traveled along by horse-drawn wagons. Watch on YouTube the video of San Francisco recorded back in 1906 and you will see far more horses than horseless carriages. People rarely, if ever, left their hometowns. Animal domestication and the early beginnings of decent roads, then bicycles, balloons, boats, and simple automobiles were developing, but not widely received.

Since the early part of the twentieth century, mankind went on to invent airplanes and jets, and we’ve even left Earth’s atmosphere in rockets and space shuttles. It used to take months for people to travel overseas by boat, but now we travel that same distance abroad in mere hours. In today’s world, people are always on the move, just as the angel prophesied to Daniel.

Today’s exponential increase in travel points to the fact that Jesus Christ is returning soon.

3) Increase in Understanding Prophecy

Did you know that Bible prophecy constitutes a whopping 31% of the Bible? God’s overall plan for the ages appears to be rather like a 100-piece puzzle, and so far, He has only provided 75 pieces. One can make out the outline of a picture, but until certain events unfold, which then add another new piece to the puzzle, the picture remains incomplete.

Still, the 75 pieces we have now are far more numerous than what Daniel ever had. As Jesus explained to His disciples, “For truly I say to you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it” (Matthew 13:17). Even then, the Apostles didn’t understand many of Christ’s teachings until after His resurrection when He openly explained them and then later sent the Holy Spirit at Pentecost to provide further illumination. Even then, the Apostles were expecting the imminent return of Christ and not a 2,000-year long wait.

Today, the various end times signs related to nature, society, world politics, technology, Israel, and the spiritual signs are coming at us at such a fantastic rate that Bible prophecy teachers such as Dr. Ron Rhodes have begun to call the phenomenon “The Convergence”. So many end times signs converging all at once has greatly enhanced our understanding of end times Bible prophecy, just as Gabriel foretold.

Today’s exponential increase in the understanding of God’s prophetic Word points to the fact that Jesus Christ is returning soon.

Recognize the Times

These three major signs, along with the hundreds more provided in the Bible, being fulfilled in our day, reveal the fact that the Lord could indeed return at any moment. By looking through the filter of the Bible at all the wondrous yet fearful events playing out before us, we should clearly understand the times in which we are living.

As a result, we are comforted knowing that God’s got it all under control, that He has a great big plan in place, and that His children play a vital role in that plan. Christians are called to serve God in these dark times with all our unique giftedness, resources, and experience.

Signs of the Times

The Trojan Horse In The Grid: Chinese Kill Switches Found In Solar Farms

Investigations have revealed that Chinese-manufactured power inverters installed in American solar farms contain components capable of remote shutdown. In some cases, these so-called “kill switches” include cellular radios that allow for the inverters–the critical devices that convert and send solar power into the U.S. grid–to be turned off from anywhere in the world.

In late April, a sudden and massive blackout plunged parts of Spain and Portugal into darkness after just 2 gigawatts of power dropped from the grid–an amount small enough to be caused by a single infrastructure failure. Power returned in hours, but the implications were staggering: Europe’s energy systems are now so interconnected, so centralized, and so vulnerable, that a minor disruption can lead to a continent-wide crisis.

Now, the United States is waking up to a far more alarming possibility–not an accident, but an attack.

One expert warned this gives Beijing the ability to flip a switch and trigger blackouts across the U.S.–or worse, physically destroy portions of our grid in a moment of strategic tension or war. These revelations, first reported by Reuters, are not speculative. They’re real. And they expose what many national security experts are calling one of the gravest infrastructure threats America has ever faced.

An Invisible Invasion–Already Inside Our Grid

The danger isn’t looming on the horizon–it’s already here. Chinese-built inverters are embedded in solar farms across the country, particularly in the Southwest, Midwest, and California, where solar energy is booming. Two Chinese companies–Huawei and Sungrow–now dominate the global inverter market, accounting for more than 50% of installations worldwide. That means thousands of American solar systems are potentially equipped with components that can be remotely accessed or disabled, creating a backdoor into the U.S. electrical grid.

This isn’t just a software vulnerability. These inverters include physical hardware and embedded cellular communications capable of overriding local controls. In one Texas incident last year, a U.S. company discovered its inverters had been shut off remotely by a Chinese manufacturer. The incident sparked internal panic, but the Department of Energy has only recently begun to disclose these vulnerabilities to the public.

A former intelligence official described it this way: “It’s as if you handed your house keys to a stranger who lives across the world–and then wired your front door to respond only to their phone.”

How a Grid Attack Would Cripple America

If an adversary like China triggered a coordinated shutdown of compromised inverters, even a partial failure of the grid could cause massive cascading effects, including:

Rolling Blackouts in Major Cities

Hospitals, emergency response centers, and airports could go dark, creating panic and putting lives at risk.

Transportation Chaos

Rail systems, traffic lights, and EV charging stations would go offline, stranding commuters and halting commerce.

Food and Medicine Shortages

Refrigeration in warehouses and grocery stores would fail. Supply chains would seize up. Within 72 hours, shortages would begin.

Digital Collapse

Internet providers, ATMs, online banking, and even 911 dispatch centers could become inaccessible in affected areas.

National Defense Impacted

Military bases and critical communications lines share power infrastructure with civilian systems. Disruption could weaken America’s readiness during a national emergency.

It’s the very definition of asymmetric warfare: winning without firing a single shot–just flipping a switch.

This Isn’t the First Warning–We’ve Ignored Others

The idea of a foreign power embedding itself into U.S. infrastructure isn’t new. In fact, this is the third major warning in just the past five years:

1. Huawei’s Telecom Infiltration

In 2019, the Trump administration moved to ban Huawei equipment from U.S. communications networks. Intelligence reports revealed hidden access features that could allow China to eavesdrop on calls or disable entire telecom systems. The U.S. had to spend billions to rip out Huawei’s hardware from rural networks.

2. China’s Port Takeover Attempt

That same year, a Chinese state-owned company attempted to gain control of the Long Beach Container Terminal in California–a key node in U.S. trade logistics. After intervention by national security officials, the deal was blocked. But it highlighted just how deep and strategic Beijing’s interests are in controlling critical infrastructure.

Now, we face the third strike–solar inverters embedded with remote-control components. How many warnings will it take before we respond with urgency?

Energy Independence Means Security–Not Dependency

The rush to build green energy has created a dangerous dependency on Chinese technology. In our zeal to “go green,” we’ve handed control of essential hardware to a regime that views the U.S. not as a partner–but a rival.

This is not a partisan issue–it’s a sovereignty issue. Whether you support solar power or prefer fossil fuels, every American should agree: no foreign government should have the power to turn off our lights.

It’s time to rethink what “energy independence” really means. It’s not just about reducing carbon emissions. It’s about ensuring that, in a crisis, our grid stays in our hands–not Beijing’s.

What Must Be Done–Now

To protect the American people from this invisible threat, we need bold action:

1. Immediate Ban on Foreign-Controlled Grid Hardware

Congress must act to prohibit installation of foreign-manufactured inverters, transformers, and grid controllers, and begin replacing existing components deemed high-risk.

2. Full Audit of Grid Infrastructure

The Department of Energy and DHS must conduct a nationwide security audit of all solar and renewable infrastructure, identifying vulnerable systems and backdoor access points.

3. Restore American Manufacturing for Energy Tech

Invest in domestic production of inverters, batteries, and smart grid technology, so we stop relying on adversaries for our energy infrastructure.

4. Cybersecurity Standards for Renewable Systems

Federal guidelines must require closed, air-gapped systems with physical override capabilities–and zero remote access by foreign parties.

5. Public Awareness and Preparedness

Inform the public. Utilities, local governments, and families must know how to respond to blackouts and build local resilience in case of failure.

Before the Lights Go Out for Good

The blackout in Spain was a wake-up call. The discovery of Chinese kill switches in American solar farms is the alarm clock. We can’t hit snooze this time.

Our power grid is not just an engineering system–it’s the lifeblood of our economy, our security, and our way of life. We must treat it with the seriousness it deserves.

Places in the Bible

Bethsaida

Also known as et-Tell, Beth-Saida, Bethsaida Julia, Julia, Julias, Julias-Bethsaida

A grassy slope with scattered bushes leading down to a plain and the Sea of Galilee.

Plain of Bethsaida

The northeastern shore of the Sea of Galilee is a fertile plain where the feeding of the 5,000 likely took place (see Mark 6). Israeli maps and excavators currently locate the New Testament city of Bethsaida at an ancient ruin known as “et-Tell.” The excavation team, headed by Rami Arav, is insistent that this site be identified with ancient Bethsaida. Others suggest that Bethsaida may be better located at el-Araj near the lakeshore.

Aerial View

There are many problems with the identification of et-Tell with Bethsaida, including:

  • Distance from the Sea of Galilee
  • Elevation of the site, about 20 feet (6 m) above the level of the lake in ancient times
  • Lack of ancient remains from the 1st century AD, including significant pottery and coins
  • Lack of buildings from the New Testament period. After 30 years of digging, excavators have identified only one Roman period house and another building they identify as a Roman temple. This latter identification is dubious.

In short, there is little to commend this site as being the Bethsaida mentioned by Josephus and the Bible. For more of the excavators’ perspective, see the links below. For more evidence against this identification, see Rainey and Notley, The Sacred Bridge, pp. 356–59.

House of the Fisherman

The most impressive remains at this site are the Iron Age gate and two large Hellenistic houses. The House of the Fisherman measures 4,300 square feet (400 sq m), and is believed to be a fisherman’s home based on the discovery of two types of lead net weights, a round lead weight of the so-called musket type, and a long, crooked needle. Among the coins discovered in the house were two silver didrachmae of Demetrius II.

House of Winemaker

This house (2,700 sq ft; 250 sq m) included an undisturbed wine cellar with four complete Hellenistic jars. In addition, a gold earring with the picture of an animal was found, as well as numerous examples of expensive imported vessels. A hook and some anchors were found in the house, as were three iron sickles.

A small, dark doorway in a rock wall. On the right of the door is a low rock wall leading up to the house. On the left, rocks in the ground with some loose on top with trees in the background
Trees surrounding an open, vibrantly green, grassy space sprinkled with random rocks.

Feeding of the 5,000

The feeding of the 5,000 most likely took place on the Plain of Bethsaida. Mark 6:30 says the feeding took place at a “solitary place” and verse 39 says that the people sat down on “the green grass.” After this, however, Jesus made his disciples “go over to Bethsaida.” About 5 square miles (13 sq km) in area, the Plain of Bethsaida is very spacious and is crisscrossed by streams, aqueducts and irrigation canals.  There are many flat hills on which it would be possible to seat large numbers of people.

Introduction to the Bible – Bible Summary

Summary of the Book of
Zechariah
Author:
Zechariah 1:1 identifies the author of the Book of Zechariah as the Prophet
Zechariah.
Date of Writing: The Book of Zechariah was likely written in two primary segments,
between 520 and 470 B.C.
Purpose of Writing: Zechariah emphasized that God has used His prophets to teach,
warn, and correct His people. Unfortunately, they refused to listen. Their sin brought
God’s punishment. The book also bears evidence that even prophecy could be
corrupted. History shows that in this period prophecy fell into disfavor among the Jews,
leading to the period between the Testaments when no lasting prophetic voice spoke to
God’s people.
Key Verses:
Zechariah 1:3, “Therefore tell the people: This is what the LORD Almighty says: ‘Return to
me,’ declares the LORD Almighty, ‘and I will return to you,’ says the LORD Almighty.”
Zechariah 7:13, “‘When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not
listen,’ says the LORD Almighty.”
Zechariah 9:9, “Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion! Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See,
your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey,
on a colt, the foal of a donkey.”
Zechariah 13:9, “This third I will bring into the fire; I will refine them like silver and test
them like gold. They will call on my name and I will answer them; I will say, ‘They are my
people,’ and they will say, ‘The LORD is our God.'”
Brief Summary: The Book of Zechariah teaches that salvation may be obtained by
all. The last chapter depicts peoples from all over the world coming to worship God,
who desires that all people follow Him. This is not the doctrine of universalism, i.e., that
all people would be saved because it is God’s nature to save. Rather, the book teaches
that God desires that all people worship Him and accepts those who do, regardless of
their national or political expressions. Finally, Zechariah preached that God is sovereign
over this world, any appearance to the contrary notwithstanding. His visions of the
future indicate that God sees all that will happen. The depictions of God’s intervention in
the world teach that ultimately He will bring human events to the end He chooses. He
does not eliminate the individual’s freedom to follow God or rebel, but holds people
responsible for the choices they make. In the last chapter, even the forces of nature
respond to God’s control.
Foreshadowings: Prophecies about Jesus Christ and the messianic era abound in
Zechariah. From the promise that Messiah would come and dwell in our midst
(Zechariah 2:10-12; Matthew 1:23) to the symbolism of the Branch and the Stone
(Zechariah 3:8-9, 6:12-13; Isaiah 11:1; Luke 20:17-18) to the promise of His Second
Coming where they who pierced Him will look upon Him and mourn (Zechariah
12:10; John 19:33-37), Christ is the theme of the Book of Zechariah. Jesus is the Savior of
Israel, a fountain whose blood covers the sins of all who come to Him for salvation
(Zechariah 13:1; 1 John 1:7).
Practical Application: God expects sincere worship and moral living of us today.
Zechariah’s example of breaking through national prejudice reminds us to reach out into
all areas of our society. We must extend God’s invitation of salvation to people of all
national origins, languages, races, and cultures. That salvation is only available through
the shed blood of Jesus Christ on the cross, who died in our place to atone for sin. But if
we reject that sacrifice, there is no other sacrifice through which we can be reconciled to
God. There is no other name under heaven by which men are saved (Acts 4:12). There is
no time to lose; today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).

Inleiding tot die Bybel – Bybel Samevatting

Opsomming van die boek
Sagaria

Sleutelverse:
ongeag hul nasionale of politieke uitdrukkings.
Sagaria. Van die belofte dat Messias in ons midde sou kom woon ( Sagaria 2:10-12 ;
Matteus 1:23 ) tot die simboliek van die Loot en die Steen ( Sagaria 3:8-9 , 6:12-13 ;
Daar is
