WEEKEND WORD
Disciples of Jesus is not “Humbugs”
Recently, I heard the word “humbug” being used. From the context, I gathered that this word is not a complimentary word, and that it was not referring to the peppermint flavoured sweet we use to eat as children.
So, I looked it up and found that a humbug describes a person who is deceitful, hypocritical or pretentious. It can also be used to describe a person who is insincere, and manipulative.
Suddenly the thought came to mind, “God did not call us to be humbugs,” but to be above reproach, faithful to our spouses, temperate, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach, not given to drunkenness, not violent but gentle, not quarrelsome, not a lover of money. We must manage our families well and ensure that our children obey us and do so in a manner worthy of respect. We must not be recent converts, that may become conceited and fall under the same judgment as the devil. We must also have a good reputation with outsiders, so that he will not fall into disgrace and into the devil’s trap. (See 1 Timothy 3: 2-7)
So let us not be called humbugs, but let us be servants obedient to God’s call, living the way He wants us to live and sharing the Gospel earnestly and honestly.
Naweek woord

Bible Teaching of the Day
God’s Mercy
Mercy describes a divine attribute of God’s nature—He is “rich in mercy” (Ephesians 2:4), and His “mercy is great” (2 Samuel 24:14; see also Daniel 9:9). Mercy is revealed in the actions God takes to relieve suffering and demonstrate His faithfulness and steadfast love. Mercy is such an exceptionally complex concept that several Hebrew and Greek words are used to express the dimensions of its meaning. Synonyms like compassion, lovingkindness, favor, and steadfast love often appear in Bible translations to illustrate the idea of mercy. A brief biblical definition of mercy is “the gift of God’s undeserved kindness and compassion.”
On a human level, mercy is the benevolent or compassionate treatment of someone suffering or in need. Mercy is an attitude that moves us to act on behalf of the unfortunate. On a divine level, mercy is the foundation of forgiveness expressed in God’s pardon of human sin. By His divine quality of mercy, God remains faithful to His covenant promises and His relationship with His people despite their unworthiness and faithlessness (Deuteronomy 30:1–6; Isaiah 14:1; Romans 9:15–16, 23; Ephesians 2:4–9).
When God revealed Himself to Moses, He emphasized the prominence of His mercy: “The Lord passed in front of Moses, calling out, ‘Yahweh! The Lord! The God of compassion and mercy! I am slow to anger and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness. I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations. I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin. But I do not excuse the guilty’” (Exodus 34:6–7, NLT).
In God’s mercy, He shows leniency. He withholds punishment from sinners even though they deserve it: “But in your great mercy, you did not destroy them completely or abandon them forever. What a gracious and merciful God you are!” (Nehemiah 9:31, NLT). God’s mercy also causes Him to give good gifts to those who are undeserving: “Because of God’s tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us” (Luke 1:78, NLT). Thus, mercy is related to grace.
Jesus Christ is the fullest, most dynamic expression of God’s mercy (Ephesians 2:4–5). In His earthly ministry, Jesus demonstrated compassion and mercy for the helpless and suffering (Matthew 9:36; 14:14; 20:34; Mark 6:34; Luke 7:13). Mercy motivated Christ to give “himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:2; see also Galatians 2:20) so that through Him we might be forgiven of our sins (Hebrews 2:17) and granted the gift of eternal life (1 Peter 1:3; 1 Timothy 1:14–16; Jude 1:21).
In Titus 3:4–7, the apostle Paul gives us one of the best descriptions of God’s mercy as revealed in Jesus Christ: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.” God’s mercy not only forgives and saves us but also withholds the punishment we deserve.
The Bible beckons Christians “to love mercy” (Micah 6:8) and “be merciful, just as your Father is merciful” (Luke 6:36). Believers must show the same mercy and compassion toward one another that God demonstrates toward them (Zechariah 7:9; Matthew 5:7; 18:33–35; Colossians 3:12; James 2:12–13; 1 Peter 3:9). Mercy is also pronounced as a greeting and a blessing on God’s people (1 Timothy 1:2; 2 Timothy 1:16–18; 2 John 3; Jude 1:2, 21).
Die Here!
In God se barmhartigheid toon Hy toegeeflikheid.

Daily Devotional
“DO WE KNOW THE LORD?”
The Lord urged me to ask, “Do we know of God, or do we know God?” This question is aimed at those who confess that they are Christians but more so to those who grew up in Christian homes and even those who grew up in a parsonage.
You see, many of us grew up with the Bible next to us. We read the stories, we studied the history, and we even learned about the God of the Bible. In essence we can say we are Christians based on our knowledge of the Word and of God. Unfortunately, knowing about the Lord fills our heads and not our hearts. Knowing about the Lord creates a false sense of salvation and security.
Sadly, many have not had an encounter with the living God. Many have not had that “stop-and-go-moment” with the Lord. The Word states that whosever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. (Romans 10:13) John 3:16 also states that whosoever believes in him (Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God) should not perish, but have everlasting life. It is therefor clear that we should believe in Jesus Christ and not just believe what we’ve read, what we’ve been taught, or what we believe is true. According to John 1:14 the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth. The challenge today is not whether we know what is written about God, but whether or not we entered into a relationship with God the Father by accepting the gift of salvation brought about by the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. (See Ephesians 2:8-9)
Let us take cognizance of Matthew 7:21 that states, “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven but only those who do the will of my Father in heaven.” And what is the will of the Father? The will of the Father is that everyone who sees the Son (Jesus) and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and will be raised up at the last day. (See John 6:40)
Today I urge you to pray, “Search me, O God, and know my heart: Try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me and lead me in the way everlasting.” (See Psalm 139:23-24)
Then, if we have not had that very important encounter with the Lord, stating that we believe in Him, confessing our sin and accepting His gift of salvation, we ought to stop for a moment and do so before carrying on.
When we prayed, expressing our faith in Christ and His saving grace, we will be made new, the old things will pass and all things will become new. (See 2 Corinthians 5:17) If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)
If the Lord is stirring something inside of you, and you want to be sure of your salvation, you are welcome to pray with me in faith, “Forgive me Lord, for I have sinned. I acknowledge that I cannot save myself and accept your gift of Salvation according to Ephesians 2:8-9. Wash me in the precious blood of Jesus Christ who died and rose again to set me free and make me holy. Amen”
Vandag se Toewyding / Bemoediging
“KEN ONS DIE HERE?”
(Sien Johannes 6:40)
Vandag wil ek u aanspoor om te bid, ” Deurgrond my, o God, en ken my hart; toets my en ken my gedagtes; en kyk of daar by my ‘n weg is van smart, en lei my op die ewige weg!” (Sien Psalm 139:23-24)
(1 Johannes 1:9)
Amen.”

Bible Prophecy in the News
BOMBSHELL REPORT: BIDEN GAVE HAMAS OVER 2 BILLION DOLLARS TO KILL ISRAELIS
“Emergency Money” was sent by the United States government under the Biden administration was sent directly to the Hamas terrorists AFTER October 7th. This was all done under the pretext of sending “humanitarian” aid to the “innocent Arabs” caught up in the middle of a war.
This would be akin to the United States having an air drop to Berlin during World War II in order to help the civilian population during World War II while American GI’s battled the German Nazi war machine. It would have been patently absurd. The same goes for Gaza. Of the 2 billion that United States taxpayers transferred through the council of anti-Israel people that were heading up the United States while Joe Biden dawdled along, the vast majority propped up the killing machine called Hamas.
That is why it is so important to delegitimize any attempt to humanize the “innocent” Arabs in Gaza. The entire facade was based on one big lie. All of the Arabs in Gaza who were noncombatants did not need airdrops and money in Gaza for their continued life there. They needed to be displaced, moved, and freed from the shackles of Hamas. The only ones doing that were the IDF soldiers of the State of Israel.
It is true that the United States did indeed transfer enormous amounts of weapons to the State of Israel following October 7th, but that does not justify the concomitant arming of the enemy under the guise of humaintarian support. This is one of many “humanitarian” causes that are well-served by being cut by the Trump administration.

INTRODUCTION TO YOUR BIBLE
Summary of the Book of Psalms
Author: The brief descriptions that introduce the psalms have David listed as author in
73 instances. David’s personality and identity are clearly stamped on many of these
psalms. While it is clear that David wrote many of the individual psalms, he is definitely
not the author of the entire collection. Two of the psalms (72 and 127) are attributed to
Solomon, David’s son and successor. Psalm 90 is a prayer assigned to Moses. Another group of 12 psalms (50) and (73—83) is ascribed to the family of Asaph. The sons of Korah wrote 11 psalms (42, 44—49, 84—85, 87—88). Psalm 88 is attributed to Heman, while Psalm 89 is assigned to Ethan the Ezrahite. With the exception of Solomon and Moses, all these additional authors were priests or Levites who were responsible for providing music for sanctuary worship during David’s reign. Fifty of the psalms designate no specific person as author, although two of those are designated elsewhere in the Bible as psalms of David. Full article: Who wrote the book of Psalms? Who was the author of Psalms?
Date of Writing: A careful examination of the authorship question, as well as the
subject matter covered by the psalms themselves, reveals that they span a period of
many centuries. The oldest psalm in the collection is probably the prayer of Moses (90),
a reflection on the frailty of man as compared to the eternity of God. The latest psalm is
probably (137), a song of lament clearly written during the days when the Hebrews were being held captive by the Babylonians, from about 586 to 538 B.C.
It is clear that the 150 individual psalms were written by many different people across a
period of a thousand years in Israel’s history. They must have been compiled and put
together in their present form by some unknown editor shortly after the captivity ended
about 537 B.C.
Purpose of Writing: The Book of Psalms has far more “chapters” than any other book
in the Bible, with 150 individual psalms. It is also one of the most diverse, since the
psalms deal with such subjects as God and His creation, war, worship, wisdom, sin and evil, judgment, justice, and the coming of the Messiah.
Key Verses:
Psalm 19:1 “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his
hands.”
Psalm 22:16-19, “Dogs have surrounded me; a band of evil men has encircled me, they have pierced my hands and my feet. I can count all my bones; people stare and gloat over me. They divide my garments among them and cast lots for my clothing.”
Psalm 23:1, “The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.”
Psalm 29:1-2, “Ascribe to the LORD, O mighty ones, ascribe to the LORD glory and
strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness.”
Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”
Psalm 119:1-2, “Blessed are they whose ways are blameless, who walk according to the law of the LORD. Blessed are they who keep his statutes and seek him with all their heart.”
Brief Summary: The Book of Psalms is a collection of prayers, poems, and hymns that
focus the worshiper’s thoughts on God in praise and adoration. Parts of this book were
used as a hymnal in the worship services of ancient Israel. The musical heritage of the
psalms is demonstrated by its title. It comes from a Greek word which means “a song
sung to the accompaniment of a musical instrument.”
Foreshadowings: God’s provision of a Savior for His people is a recurring theme in the
Psalms. Prophetic pictures of the Messiah are seen in numerous psalms. Psalm 2:1-
12 portrays the Messiah’s triumph and kingdom. Psalm 16:8-11 foreshadows His death
and resurrection. Psalm 22 shows us the suffering Savior on the cross and presents
detailed prophecies of the crucifixion, all of which were fulfilled perfectly. The glories of
the Messiah and His bride are on exhibit in Psalm 45:6-7, while Psalms 72:6-17, 89:3-
37, 110:1-7 and 132:12-18 present the glory and universality of His reign.
Practical Application: One of the results of being filled with the Spirit or the word of
Christ is singing. The psalms are the “songbook” of the early church that reflected the
new truth in Christ.
God is the same Lord in all the psalms. But we respond to Him in different ways,
according to the specific circumstances of our lives. What a marvelous God we worship,
the psalmist declares, high and lifted up beyond our human experiences but also close
enough to touch and who walks beside us along life’s way.
We can bring all our feelings to God—no matter how negative or complaining they may
be—and we can rest assured that He will hear and understand. The psalmist teaches us that the most profound prayer of all is a cry for help as we find ourselves overwhelmed by the problems of life.
geskryf is.
Psalm 22:16-19 , “Honde het my omsingel; ‘n bende bose mense het my omsingel, hulle het my hande en my voete deurboor. Ek kan al my gebeente tel; mense staar en juig oor my. Hulle verdeel my klere onder mekaar. hulle en werp die lot oor my klere.”
Psalm 23:1 , “Die HERE is my herder, ek sal nie gebrek hê nie.”
Psalm 29:1-2 , “Gee aan die HERE, o magtiges, gee aan die HERE eer en sterkte. Gee aan
die HERE die eer van sy Naam; aanbid die HERE in die heerlikheid van sy heiligheid.”
Psalm 51:10 , “Skep vir my ‘n rein hart, o God, en gee opnuut in my binneste ‘n vaste
gees.”
