The Bible makes it clear why God is sending a strong delusion in the end times: “They perish because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie and so that all will be condemned who have not believed the truth but have delighted in wickedness” (2 Thessalonians 2:10-12). Simply put, God sends a strong delusion to those who choose not to believe the gospel of Christ. Those who take delight in mocking and rejecting Him, He will condemn.

It is a person’s choice whether to accept and believe the truth of Jesus Christ as presented in the Scriptures. To receive the truth and the love God offers is in keeping with its teachings, “This is love for God: to obey His commands” (1 John 5:3). Conversely, to know the truth and not obey it is to face the wrath of God: “The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness” (Romans 1:18). Frankly speaking, there is no more dangerous condition for man than to know the truth and refuse to obey it. To do so is to harden the heart and make God’s condemnation sure.

When one knows the truth and refuses to obey it, he is subject to any lie, any deception, any untruth that humanity can conjure up. “For although they knew God, they neither glorified Him nor gave thanks to Him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools” (Romans 1:21-22). Paul goes on in the next few verses to describe the mindset and behaviors of those who disbelieve (see Romans 1:29-31). As a result of human foolishness and arrogant disdain of the things of God, “God gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done” (Romans 1:28). And correspondingly, “Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things, but also approve of those who practice them” (Romans 1:32).

Isaiah puts it succinctly: “They have chosen their own ways, and their souls delight in their abominations; so I [God] also will choose harsh treatment for them and bring upon them what they dread. For when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, no one listened. They did evil in My sight and chose what displeases Me” (Isaiah 66:3-4).

When people know the truth and refuse to receive it, when they refuse to obey it and hold it in unrighteousness, “they will be condemned for enjoying evil rather than believing the truth” (2 Thessalonians 2:12 NLT).

“God is love” (1 John 4:16). He is not some cruel monster who deliberately and inwardly delights in preparing people for everlasting condemnation. But He earnestly and lovingly proclaims the gospel of Christ, “not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9).

Throughout the Scriptures, God urges people to accept the truth. But when people reject Him and spurn His message, then—and not until then—God hardens them and turns them over to a deluded mind to wallow in their wickedness to their eternal damnation. This is what the Lord says about those who choose to reject the truth: “They greatly love to wander; they do not restrain their feet. So the Lord does not accept them; He will now remember their wickedness and punish them for their sins” (Jeremiah 14:10).



Die Bybel maak dit duidelik waarom God ‘n sterk dwaling in die eindtyd stuur: “Hulle gaan verlore, omdat hulle die waarheid nie liefgehad het en gered word nie. Daarom stuur God hulle ‘n kragtige dwaling, sodat hulle die leuen sal glo en almal wat die waarheid nie geglo het nie, maar in die ongeregtigheid behae gevind het, veroordeel sal word” (2 Tessalonisense 2:10-12). Eenvoudig gestel, God stuur ‘n sterk dwaling aan diegene wat kies om nie die evangelie van Christus te glo nie. Diegene wat daarin behae skep om Hom te bespot en te verwerp, sal Hy veroordeel.

Dit is ‘n persoon se keuse of hy die waarheid van Jesus Christus soos dit in die Skrif aangebied word, wil aanvaar en glo. Om die waarheid en die liefde wat God bied te ontvang, is in ooreenstemming met die leringe daarvan: “Dit is die liefde tot God: om sy gebooie te gehoorsaam” (1 Johannes 5:3). Omgekeerd, om die waarheid te ken en dit nie te gehoorsaam nie, is om die toorn van God in die gesig te staar: “Die toorn van God word van die hemel af geopenbaar oor al die goddeloosheid en ongeregtigheid van die mense wat die waarheid deur hulle ongeregtigheid onderdruk” (Romeine 1:18). Eerlikwaar, daar is geen gevaarliker toestand vir die mens as om die waarheid te ken en te weier om dit te gehoorsaam nie. Om dit te doen, is om die hart te verhard en God se veroordeling seker te maak.

Wanneer iemand die waarheid ken en weier om dit te gehoorsaam, is hy onderworpe aan enige leuen, enige misleiding, enige onwaarheid wat die mensdom kan oproep. “Want alhoewel hulle God geken het, het hulle Hom nie verheerlik of gedank nie; maar hulle oorlegginge het dwaas geword, en hulle dwase harte is verduister. Al het hulle beweer dat hulle wys is, het hulle dwaas geword” (Romeine 1:21-22). Paulus gaan voort in die volgende paar verse om die denkwyse en gedrag van diegene wat nie glo nie, te beskryf (sien Romeine 1:29-31). As gevolg van menslike dwaasheid en arrogante minagting van die dinge van God, “het God hulle oorgegee aan ‘n verdorwe gesindheid, om te doen wat nie betaam nie” (Romeine 1:28). En ooreenstemmend, “Alhoewel hulle God se regverdige besluit ken dat die wat sulke dinge doen, die dood verdien, gaan hulle nie net voort om hierdie dinge te doen nie, maar keur hulle ook die wat dit beoefen goed” (Romeine 1:32).

Jesaja stel dit bondig: “Hulle het hul eie weë gekies, en hulle siel het ‘n welgevalle aan hulle gruwels; so sal Ek [God] ook harde behandeling vir hulle kies en oor hulle bring wat hulle vrees. Want toe Ek geroep het, het niemand geantwoord nie, toe Ek gepraat het, het niemand geluister nie. Hulle het gedoen wat verkeerd was in my oë en gekies wat My nie behaag nie” (Jesaja 66:3-4).

Wanneer mense die waarheid ken en weier om dit te ontvang, wanneer hulle weier om dit te gehoorsaam en dit in ongeregtigheid vashou, “sal hulle veroordeel word omdat hulle die kwaad geniet in plaas daarvan om die waarheid te glo” (2 Tessalonisense 2:12 NLV).

“God is liefde” (1 Johannes 4:16). Hy is nie ‘n wrede monster wat doelbewus en innerlik daarin verlustig om mense voor te berei vir ewige veroordeling nie. Maar Hy verkondig die evangelie van Christus ernstig en liefdevol, “en wil nie hê dat iemand verlore gaan nie, maar dat almal tot bekering kom” (2 Petrus 3:9).

Deur die Skrif dring God mense aan om die waarheid te aanvaar. Maar wanneer mense Hom verwerp en Sy boodskap verag, dan – en nie tot dan nie – verhard God hulle en gee hulle oor aan ‘n misleide gemoed om in hul goddeloosheid te swelg tot hul ewige verdoemenis. Dit is wat die Here sê oor diegene wat kies om die waarheid te verwerp: “Hulle is mal daaroor om rond te dwaal; hulle hou hul voete nie terug nie. Daarom aanvaar die Here hulle nie; Hy sal nou aan hulle goddeloosheid dink en hulle vir hulle sondes straf” (Jeremia 14:10).

Here, Jesus het gekom om elke Bybelprofesie in die Bybel te vervul volgens die Ou Verbond / Ou Testament. Hy kom weer om elke profesie wat die Nuwe Testament ook bevat, te vervul. Jesus is die rede vir elke Bybelprofesie. Dankie vir die geloof wat dit bou om Bybelprofesie daagliks voor ons oë te sien vervul. Amen en Amen


Bible Teaching of the Day

The whole book of Hebrews deals with the ways that the New Covenant in Christ is better than the Old Covenant and the Law given by Moses. A few points from Hebrews will serve to illustrate why Jesus’ sacrifice is better than the Levitical sacrifices.

The Levitical priests became priests simply because of their lineage—they were born into the priestly line. Jesus, however, was chosen by God to be a priest because of His personal qualifications (Hebrews 7:11–22).

There were many Levitical priests because they kept dying and had to be replaced. Jesus, however, lives forever and will continue to serve as priest forever, never being replaced (Hebrews 7:23–25).

The Levitical priests had to first offer sacrifices for their own sins and then for the sins of the people. Jesus had no sin and did not need to offer a sacrifice for Himself (Hebrews 7:26–27).

The Levitical priests served in an earthly setting, whereas Jesus ministers in a heavenly setting (Hebrews 8:1–5).

The Levitical priests ministered under the Old Covenant, whereas Jesus ministers under a New Covenant. The fact that God replaced the Old with the New is evidence that the New is better and that the Old must have had some deficiencies (Hebrews 8:6–13).

The Levitical priests entered the earthly Most Holy Place only once per year with the blood of an animal sacrifice. Jesus entered the heavenly Most Holy Place with the sacrifice of His own blood, and He is still there ministering on our behalf (Hebrews 9:11–24).

The Levitical priests had to make sacrifices repeatedly. This demonstrates the inherent weakness of their sacrifices. Jesus made one sacrifice for all sins for all people for all time. The Levitical sacrifices were merely imperfect pointers to Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. If they had been adequate in themselves, they would not have been repeated. It is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to really take away sin (Hebrews 9:25—10:4).

In summary, “Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy” (Hebrews 10:11–14).

Even after the Levitical priests had made the sacrifice, the way into the Most Holy Place was still barred. The high priest could only go in once per year, and other priests and the people at large could never go in. However, because of the sacrifice of Christ, “we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body” (Hebrews 10:19–20). The gospels record that at the death of Jesus the curtain in the temple was torn from top to bottom (Matthew 27:51), signifying that people could have direct access to God.

In short, the sacrifice of Jesus is better than the Levitical sacrifices because Jesus’ sacrifice did what the Levitical sacrifices could never do—make forgiveness of sins possible, once and for all, with a sacrifice that is never to be repeated.



Bybel Lering vir die Dag

Die hele boek Hebreërs handel oor die maniere waarop die Nuwe Verbond in Christus beter is as die Ou Verbond en die Wet wat deur Moses gegee is. ‘n Paar punte uit Hebreërs sal dien om te illustreer waarom Jesus se offer beter is as die Levitiese offers.

Die Levitiese priesters het priesters geword bloot as gevolg van hul afstamming – hulle is in die priesterlike lyn gebore. Jesus is egter deur God gekies om ‘n priester te wees as gevolg van Sy persoonlike kwalifikasies (Hebreërs 7:11–22).

Daar was baie Levitiese priesters omdat hulle aanhou sterf het en vervang moes word. Jesus leef egter vir ewig en sal vir ewig as priester dien, nooit vervang word nie (Hebreërs 7:23–25).

Die Levitiese priesters moes eers offers bring vir hul eie sondes en dan vir die sondes van die volk. Jesus het geen sonde gehad nie en hoef nie ‘n offer vir Homself te bring nie (Hebreërs 7:26–27).

Die Levitiese priesters het in ‘n aardse omgewing gedien, terwyl Jesus in ‘n hemelse omgewing bedien (Hebreërs 8:1–5).

Die Levitiese priesters het onder die Ou Verbond gedien, terwyl Jesus onder ‘n Nuwe Verbond gedien het. Die feit dat God die Oue met die Nuwe vervang het, is bewys dat die Nuwe beter is en dat die Oue sekere tekortkominge moes gehad het (Hebreërs 8:6–13).

Die Levitiese priesters het die aardse Allerheiligste slegs een keer per jaar binnegegaan met die bloed van ‘n diereoffer. Jesus het die hemelse Allerheiligste binnegegaan met die offer van Sy eie bloed, en Hy is steeds daar om namens ons te dien (Hebreërs 9:11–24).

Die Levitiese priesters moes herhaaldelik offers bring. Dit demonstreer die inherente swakheid van hul offers. Jesus het een offer vir alle sondes vir alle mense vir alle tye gebring. Die Levitiese offers was bloot onvolmaakte verwysings na Christus se uiteindelike offer. As hulle op sigself voldoende was, sou hulle nie herhaal gewees het nie. Dit is onmoontlik vir die bloed van bulle en bokke om werklik sonde weg te neem (Hebreërs 9:25–10:4).

Kortliks, “Elke priester staan dag na dag op sy plek en verrig sy diens; hy bring keer op keer dieselfde offers wat nooit die sondes kan wegneem nie. Maar hierdie priester het vir altyd een offer vir die sondes gebring en aan die regterhand van God gaan sit. Van toe af wag hy dat sy vyande ‘n voetbank van sy voete gemaak word. Want deur een offer het Hy dié wat geheilig word, vir ewig volmaak gemaak” (Hebreërs 10:11–14).

Selfs nadat die Levitiese priesters die offer gebring het, was die weg na die Allerheiligste steeds versper. Die hoëpriester kon net een keer per jaar ingaan, en ander priesters en die volk in die algemeen kon nooit ingaan nie. As gevolg van die offer van Christus, “het ons egter vrymoedigheid om die Allerheiligste binne te gaan deur die bloed van Jesus, op ‘n nuwe en lewende weg wat vir ons geopen is deur die voorhangsel, dit is sy liggaam” (Hebreërs 10:19–20). Die evangelies teken aan dat die gordyn in die tempel met Jesus se dood van bo na onder geskeur is (Matteus 27:51), wat aandui dat mense direkte toegang tot God kon hê.

Kortom, die offer van Jesus is beter as die Levitiese offers, want Jesus se offer het gedoen wat die Levitiese offers nooit kon doen nie – vergifnis van sondes eens en vir altyd moontlik maak, met ‘n offer wat nooit herhaal sal word nie.


Today’s Devotional

Thy will be done” is one of the requests in the Lord’s Prayer. In part, Jesus taught His disciples to pray, “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:9–10). Jesus Himself pleaded for God’s will to be done in the Garden of Gethsemane. Prior to His crucifixion, He prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will” (Matthew 26:39). Jesus was committed to seeing God’s will accomplished, and the prayer “Thy will be done” was a theme of His life.

Most simply, to pray, “Thy will be done,” is to ask God to do what He desires. Of course, we’re praying to the God who said, “Let there be light,” and there was light (Genesis 1:3), so we know that His sovereign decree will be accomplished, whether or not we pray for it. But there is another aspect of God’s will, which we call His “revealed” will or “preceptive” will. This is God’s “will” that He has revealed to us but that He does not force upon us. For example, it is God’s will that we speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15) and that we not commit adultery (1 Corinthians 6:18) or get drunk (Ephesians 5:18). When we pray, “Thy will be done,” we are asking God to increase righteousness in the world, to bring more people to repentance, and to further the cause of the kingdom of His Son.

When we pray, “Thy will be done,” we acknowledge God’s right to rule. We do not pray, “My will be done”; we pray, “Thy will be done.” Asking that God’s will be done is a demonstration of our trust that He knows what is best. It is a statement of submission to God’s ways and His plans. We ask for our will to be conformed to His.

The Lord’s Prayer begins by acknowledging God as Father in heaven. Jesus then models petition, presenting three requests to the Father: 1) That God would cause His name to be hallowed; in other words, as Albert Mohler explains, “that God would act in such a way that he visibly demonstrates his holiness and his glory” (The Prayer That Turns the World Upside Down: The Lord’s Prayer as a Manifesto for Revolution, p. 61). 2) That God would bring His kingdom to earth; that is, that the preaching of the gospel would convert sinners into saints who walk in the power of the Holy Spirit and that God would rid the world of evil and create the new heavens and new earth where God will dwell with His people and there will be no more curse and no more death (see Revelation 21—22). 3) That God’s will would be done “on earth as it is in heaven” (Matthew 6:10). In heaven, the angels perform God’s desire completely, joyfully, and immediately—what a world this would be if humans acted like that!

As a point of clarification, “Thy will be done” is not an impassive prayer of resignation. Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane was not passive or fatalistic in the least; He bared His heart before the Father and revealed His ultimate desire: for God’s will to be accomplished. Praying, “Thy will be done,” acknowledges that God has more knowledge than we do and that we trust His way is best. And it is a commitment to actively work to further the execution of God’s will.

Romans 12:1–2 says, “Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Understanding who God is, we submit ourselves to Him and allow Him to transform us. The more we know God, the more readily our prayers will align with His will and we can truly pray, “Thy will be done.” We can approach God in confidence that “if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us” (1 John 5:14–15).

By faith, we know that praying, “Thy will be done,” is the best thing we can ask for. “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:20–21).



Vandag se Bemoediging

U wil geskied” is een van die versoeke in die Onse Vader. Jesus het deels Sy dissipels geleer om te bid: “Onse Vader wat in die hemele is, laat u Naam geheilig word; laat u koninkryk kom; laat u wil geskied, soos in die hemel net so ook op die aarde” (Matteus 6:9–10). Jesus self het gepleit dat God se wil geskied. Voor Sy kruisiging het Hy gebid: “My Vader, as dit moontlik is, laat hierdie beker van My af weggeneem word. Nogtans nie soos Ek wil nie, maar soos U wil” (Matteus 26:39). Jesus was daartoe verbind om God se wil te sien volbring word, en die gebed “U wil geskied” was ‘n tema van Sy lewe.

Die eenvoudigste manier om te bid: “U wil geskied,” is om God te vra om te doen wat Hy begeer. Natuurlik bid ons tot die God wat gesê het: “Laat daar lig wees,” en daar was lig (Genesis 1:3), so ons weet dat Sy soewereine besluit volbring sal word, of ons daarvoor bid of nie. Maar daar is nog ‘n aspek van God se wil, wat ons Sy “geopenbaarde” wil of “voorskriftelike” wil noem. Dit is God se “wil” wat Hy aan ons geopenbaar het, maar wat Hy nie op ons afdwing nie. Byvoorbeeld, dit is God se wil dat ons die waarheid in liefde spreek (Efesiërs 4:15) en dat ons nie egbreuk pleeg nie (1 Korintiërs 6:18) of dronk word nie (Efesiërs 5:18). Wanneer ons bid: “Laat u wil geskied,” vra ons God om geregtigheid in die wêreld te vermeerder, om meer mense tot bekering te bring en om die saak van die koninkryk van Sy Seun te bevorder.

Wanneer ons bid: “Laat u wil geskied,” erken ons God se reg om te heers. Ons bid nie: “Laat my wil geskied” nie; ons bid: “Laat u wil geskied.” Om te vra dat God se wil geskied, is ‘n demonstrasie van ons vertroue dat Hy weet wat die beste is. Dit is ‘n verklaring van onderwerping aan God se weë en Sy planne. Ons vra dat ons wil aan Syne gelykvormig moet wees.

Die Onse Vader begin deur God as Vader in die hemel te erken. Jesus modelleer dan ‘n versoek en stel drie versoeke aan die Vader voor: 1) Dat God Sy Naam sal laat heilig; met ander woorde, soos Albert Mohler verduidelik, “dat God so sal optree dat Hy sy heiligheid en sy heerlikheid sigbaar demonstreer” (Die Gebed wat die Wêreld Onderstebo Draai: Die Onse Vader as ‘n Manifes vir Revolusie, bl. 61). 2) Dat God Sy koninkryk na die aarde sal bring; dit wil sê, dat die prediking van die evangelie sondaars in heiliges sal omskep wat in die krag van die Heilige Gees wandel en dat God die wêreld van die bose sal bevry en die nuwe hemele en nuwe aarde sal skep waar God by Sy mense sal woon en daar geen vloek meer en geen dood meer sal wees nie (sien Openbaring 21-22). 3) Dat God se wil sal geskied “soos in die hemel, net so ook op aarde” (Matteus 6:10). In die hemel verrig die engele God se begeerte volledig, vreugdevol en onmiddellik – wat ‘n wêreld sou dit wees as mense so sou optree! Ter verduideliking, “Laat u wil geskied” is nie ‘n onbewogen gebed van berusting nie. Jesus se gebed in Getsemane was glad nie passief of fatalisties nie; Hy het Sy hart voor die Vader ontbloot en Sy uiteindelike begeerte geopenbaar: dat God se wil geskied. Om te bid: “Laat u wil geskied,” erken dat God meer kennis het as ons en dat ons vertrou dat Sy weg die beste is. En dit is ‘n verbintenis om aktief te werk om die uitvoering van God se wil te bevorder.

Romeine 12:1–2 sê: “Daarom vermaan ek julle, broers en susters, by die ontferming van God: Gee julle liggame as ‘n lewende, heilige en welgevallige offer – dit is julle ware en gepaste godsdiens. Moenie julle aanpas by die voorbeeld van hierdie wêreld nie, maar word verander deur die vernuwing van julle gemoed. Dan sal julle kan onderskei wat die wil van God is, sy goeie, welgevallige en volmaakte wil.” Deur te verstaan wie God is, onderwerp ons ons aan Hom en laat ons Hom toe om ons te verander. Hoe meer ons God ken, hoe makliker sal ons gebede in lyn wees met Sy wil en kan ons werklik bid: “Laat u wil geskied.” Ons kan God nader met die vertroue dat “as ons enigiets volgens sy wil vra, Hy ons verhoor” (1 Johannes 5:14–15).

Deur geloof weet ons dat die gebed: “Laat u wil geskied,” die beste ding is wat ons kan vra. “Aan Hom wat magtig is om te doen oneindig meer as wat ons bid of dink, volgens die krag wat in ons werk, aan Hom behoort die heerlikheid in die kerk en in Christus Jesus deur alle geslagte tot in ewigheid! Amen” (Efesiërs 3:20–21).

Lewe Sonder Brood:

In die samelewings waar voedsel volop is, is brood nie meer ń noodsaaklike item in die dieet nie en daarom verkies sommige mense om daarsonder klaar te kom, en wel om verskillende redes. In die eerste eeu egter, was brood as ń absolute, noodsaaklike stapelvoedsel beskou. Ń dieet sonder brood was eenvoudig net ondenkbaar.
Eendag het ń groep mense die Here Jesus genader. Hulle wou regte brood hê. Jesus het verduidelik dat Hy gestuur is om geestelike brood te wees en om in hulle geestelike behoeftes te voorsien. Indien hulle sy woorde in geloof sou aanneem en in hulle lewens sou toepas, sou hulle ewige tevredenheid en vrede ondervind.
Jesus wil egter nie ń opsionele iets in ons lewens en op ons spyskaarte wees nie. Hy wil ons stapelvoedsel vir ons wees, ons absolute noodsaaklike kos. Soos wat die Jode in die eerste eeu nie die lewe sonder brood kon voorstel nie, so kan en mag ons ook nooit sonder “geestelike brood ” die Here Jesus, probeer lewe nie !

Life Without Bread:

In societies where food is abundant, bread is no longer an essential item in the diet and therefore some people choose to do without it, for various reasons. In the first century, however, bread was considered an absolute, essential staple food. A diet without bread was simply unthinkable.

One day a group of people approached the Lord Jesus. Because He had just supernaturally multiplied bread to feed many people ( John 6:11,26 ), they asked Him to perform another miracle, like when He provided manna from Heaven for the people in the desert ( John 6:30,31 ; Ex 16:4 ). Then Jesus said that He was the bread that gives life ( John 6:35 ), but the people could not understand this. They wanted real bread. Jesus explained that He was sent to be spiritual bread and to meet their spiritual needs. If they would accept his words in faith and apply them in their lives, they would experience eternal contentment and peace.
However, Jesus does not want to be an optional thing in our lives and on our menus. He wants to be our staple food for us, our absolutely essential food. Just as the Jews in the first century could not imagine life without bread, so we can and must never try to live without “spiritual bread” the Lord Jesus!

INTRODUCTION TO THE GOSPEL ARTISTS of THE PAST

Meet : The Late Dottie Rambo  (March 2, 1934 – May 11, 2008) 

Her songs have touched millions. Her voice heard around the world; her heart an open book. Celebrating 60 years of changing lives in song and word — this is the story of Dottie Rambo.

Dottie Rambo was born Joyce Reba Luttrell March 2, 1934 in Madisonville, Kentucky during the height of the Great Depression.  She grew up in poverty and developed an early affinity for country music. Dottie learned to play guitar while listening at night to the Grand Ole Opry on WSM radio in Nashville. At eight years of age, she started writing songs while sitting on a creek bank near her Morganfield, Kentucky home.  She had the support of her mother and father, and by age ten she was singing and playing country music cover tunes on a local radio program.

At twelve years old, she became a born-again Christian and made a commitment to write and sing Christian music. The decision turned out to be pivotal in more than one way; it did not sit well with her father who gave her an ultimatum – give up Christian music or leave. She left home and went on the road, with her first engagement being at a church in Indianapolis, Indiana. She traveled by Greyhound bus from one church to another, returning home for Christmas and her birthday.

In 1950, at age sixteen, she met Buck Rambo at a revival meeting. They married shortly thereafter, eventually formed a trio called “The Gospel Echoes” and began traveling throughout the mid-western and southern United States.  In 1951 their daughter Reba was born. She joined the group in 1964 and their name was changed to “The Singing Rambos” and later “The Rambos.” 

One of her songs caught the attention of then-governor of Louisiana, Jimmy Davis. Governor Davis flew her and her family to the governor’s mansion so that she could sing her songs for him. Governor Davis paid Dottie around three-thousand dollars to publish her songs. It was more money than she had ever seen.

Once Jimmy Davis Music started promoting Dottie Rambo songs in the early 1960s, things would never be the same. During this time Warner Brothers Records signed Dottie and The Gospel Echoes, to a two-record deal. In the middle of it, Warner’s executives didn’t know what to do with Christian music and suggested that the group move to folk (which the label did with Peter, Paul and Mary) and that Dottie consider doing rhythm and blues. They declined both offers. Their hearts were in Gospel music and couldn’t be budged.

Within the span of a few more years The Rambos went from $50 offerings for singing in churches to singing at the largest concert dates across the country. They were among the first non-quartet singers to sing at the Gospel Quartet Convention. The Rambos were one of the first Gospel groups to sing in Vietnam for the American troupes in 1967. But they didn’t stop at the stage. Their hearts led them to the medical tents where men were hurt and dying. Dottie’s family sang, prayed and ministered to those who were hurt beyond repair. Nobody asked them to, but they went above and beyond the call of duty at every turn.

Dottie’s 1968 album, It’s The Soul of Me, won the GRAMMY for Best Gospel Album, beating out the likes of Mavis Staples and James Cleveland. Billboard magazine called her “Trendsetter of the year” because of singing with an all-black choir. Her recordings held fast to the cutting edge, using top Nashville musicians, always making her records on par with anybody else on the charts. Dottie continued to observe and adapt. And the songs never stopped.

After writing her heartfelt blockbuster “He Looked Beyond My Fault (And Saw My Need)” the doors opened for her songs to be recorded by such luminary artists as: Elvis Presley, Barbara Mandrell, Bill Monroe, Johnny Cash, Whitney Houston, Vince Gill, Dottie West, Pat Boone, Sandi Patty, the Oak Ridge Boys and countless others. Her ability to use the right words and haunting melodies make her songs timeless. Dottie’s children’s project, Down by the Creek Bank, is one of the most successful Christian children’s records in history, earning platinum record status.  Whitney Houston recorded, “I Go to the Rock” for the movie The Preacher’s Wife and won a Dove Award (along with Dottie) for performing a song that Dottie’s own record company wouldn’t let her release because they originally felt it was too “rock and roll.”

From 1989 Dottie endured severe back pain from a ruptured disc that caused her vertebrae to calcify to her spinal cord. Sadly the physical, emotional and financial strain took its toll and in 1994 Buck and Dottie divorced. But Dottie could not be kept down! A dozen surgeries did not quiet her gift. Throughout the 1990s Dottie continued to sing across the country and on television. Each step made her stronger. Each moment she sang and spoke to others built her confidence and strength. And the accolades kept coming in. In 1994 the Christian Country Music Association awarded her with the Songwriter of the Century Award. Even the industry outside Gospel music took note of all that Dottie Rambo accomplished. In 2000, ASCAP honored Dottie with the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.

The 21st century brought her back into the recording studio making her 71st album, Stand by the River. Again it was a chart topper — giving Dottie hit records through five decades. And it had the added prestige of the duet with country legend Dolly Parton being nominated for CCMA song of the year, duet of the year, Dove nominated for Country Recorded Song of the Year, Gospel Fan Awards for Duo of the Year and Song of the Year.

Tragically, as her tour dates were again increasing, her life was to come to an end.  In route to a series of concerts in Texas, Dottie’s tour bus was blown off the road.  The impact took her on Mother’s Day weekend, 2008.  The Christian music world, family, and friends were devastated by the loss.  Over four thousand people attended her home-going service at Christ Church in Nashville, Tennessee.  The choir loft was packed full of singers and songwriters from the Christian music world who wanted to participate in her remembrance (led by Bill Gaither).  Even then-President George W. Bush sent a flag from the White House that had flown on the day of her passing.  It seemed the whole country felt her loss.

But her spirit lives through the music she has left behind.  In September, 2009, a posthumous CD of songs she was recording at the time of her death were released. Sheltered, would capstone her recording career, covering classics like “Sheltered in the Arms of God” and “Remind Me, Dear Lord,” and well-loved songs such as “I’ve Never Been This Homesick” and “If That Isn’t Love,” Also carrying on the torch of her songs are the loved ones left behind: daughter Reba Rambo-McGuire, son-in-love Dony McGuire, and grandchildren Dionne & Scott Dismuke, great grandson Dyson, Destiny Rambo McGuire & Israel Anthem. Her family has recorded two projects as “Rambo McGuire” celebrating Dottie’s music.

The songs of Dottie Rambo have proven staying power. Through good times and bad, triumph and trial, they are there to console, uplift and sometimes just make you laugh. Her songs — emanating from record, cassette, CD players, and digital files — are the modern-day campfire we all gather around and feel warmed. There is a belief: even if she hadn’t written one song, she still would have changed the world — this is story of Dottie Rambo.

Eagle Wings / US states eye switch from ‘West Bank’ to ‘Judea & Samaria’

Eight American states are moving forward with bills mandating state agencies refer to territory occupied by Jordan from 1948 through 1967 by its historic and biblical name, highlighting Jewish ties to the area.

According to a report by Yedioth Ahronoth, state legislatures in Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Iowa, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Utah are poised to pass legislation requiring that all official state documents referencing the territory west of the Jordan River but east of the 1949 Armistice Line (the Green Line) be referred to as Judea and Samaria, rather than as the “West Bank.”

Captured by the Arab Legion in 1948 and occupied until 1967 by Jordan, the territory roughly matches the borders of the regions known in the Bible as Judea—representing much of what was once the holdings of the Tribe of Judah—and Samaria, the heartland of the ancient Kingdom of Israel, which split from the southern Jewish kingdom and established its capital in the city of Samaria.

In 1950, however, the Kingdom of Jordan annexed the territory captured in the 1948-49 war, renaming it the “West Bank.”

Trump officials blast Netanyahu as ‘madman’ who is ‘bombing everything’

Senior Trump administration officials have privately expressed outrage at Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent military actions in the Middle East, branding him a “madman” whose aggression could jeopardize President Trump’s foreign policy agenda, according to a report from Axios.

The White House’s frustration reportedly reached new heights after Israel bombed targets in Syria last week, including a strike on a Syrian envoy attempting to quell violence between Bedouin tribes and the Druze minority in Suwayda.

The attacks continued despite U.S. calls for restraint and while Trump was seeking to rehabilitate relations with Syria’s new leader, Ahmed al-Sharaa — a delicate endeavor given al-Sharaa’s past links to al-Qaeda.

“Bibi acted like a madman. He bombs everything all the time,” an unnamed White House official fumed to Axios. “This could undermine what Trump is trying to do.”

During his second term, Trump has prioritized ending U.S. involvement in foreign conflicts.

A key component of that strategy has been easing tensions with Syria, including efforts to lift longstanding U.S. sanctions.

Yet the Israeli strikes risk destabilizing the region further, as Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that Syria was “weeks away from potential collapse and a full-scale civil war of epic proportions.”

U.S. Special Envoy for Syria Tom Barrack reportedly pleaded with Israel to halt its attacks, but while Israel paused briefly, its forces soon resumed bombing, even hitting sites near the Syrian presidential palace.

While al-Sharaa opted not to retaliate, U.S. allies such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia lodged complaints with Washington over Israel’s conduct.

The bombing campaign followed Netanyahu’s U.S. visit, during which he received a warm welcome at the White House and even announced plans to nominate Trump for a Nobel Peace Prize.

However, Trump administration insiders accused Netanyahu of pursuing military escalation for domestic political gain.

“The Israelis need to get their head out of their asses,” one official bluntly told Axios.

The situation in Syria isn’t the only source of friction. Another sore point emerged when Israeli shelling in Gaza struck the Strip’s only Catholic church, killing three and injuring 10.

Trump reportedly called Netanyahu directly to demand an explanation, after which Israel issued a statement expressing regret.

“The feeling is that every day there is something new. What the f–k?” one exasperated official told Axios.

Another likened Netanyahu’s behavior to “a child who just won’t behave.”

Israel’s strikes on Iran last month, launched during sensitive U.S. negotiations with Tehran, further aggravated the White House.

Trump, who initially appeared uneasy, later authorized bunker buster strikes on Iranian nuclear sites himself.

While past U.S. administrations under Barack Obama and Joe Biden also clashed with Netanyahu over his hawkish policies, Trump has publicly maintained friendly ties despite his own grievances.

This included Netanyahu’s acknowledgment of Biden’s 2020 election win and his last-minute withdrawal from assisting in the US assassination of Iranian General Qassem Soleimani on Iraqi soil in January 2020.

Despite the growing frustration within Trump’s circle, the administration has thus far avoided publicly criticizing Netanyahu.
