2. JESUS CHRIST IS MY CONFIDENCE
Confidence is a popular subject today. We are told to think confidently, to be self-assured, to live brashly, boldly, and brazenly. In a myriad of ways, the theme of modern society is to be self-confident. Popular religious leaders make confidence the centerpiece of their teaching. Does the Bible agree with this “positive thinking” mantra? If the Bible teaches us to be confident, what should we be confident about? If not, why not?
The word confidence (or its close derivatives) is used 54 times in the King James Version and 60 times in the New International Version. The majority of uses concern trust in people, circumstances, or God.
The Bible says there are some things we should not have confidence in. For example, “Have no confidence in the flesh” (Philippians 3:3). Paul wrote these words to counter the claims of those who thought they were acceptable to God based on their heredity, training, or religious devotion. God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34), and our résumés and geneaologies don’t matter much to Him.
Proverbs 14:16 says that a righteous man departs from evil, but a fool rages in his confidence. In other words, to arrogantly assume that sin has no consequences is a foolish confidence.
If we’re going to be confident in something, Psalm 118:8, 9 tells us what it should be: “It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in princes.” Those who trust in government, finances, other people, or themselves will be disappointed in the end. On the other hand, those who put their confidence in God will never be ashamed (Romans 10:11).
Psalm 16 is an excellent example of a positive confidence in God. David takes no credit for his own goodness (verse 2), nor does he extol his own abilities. Instead, every good thing is ascribed to God (verse 6), and every hope is based on God’s character (verse 1). Because God is unchanging, David can confidently rest in hope (verse 9), despite any hardships he faces in life (verse 10).
Our confidence comes from our relationship with Christ. He is our High Priest, and through His intercession, we can “approach the throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need” (Hebrews 4:16). The apostles before the Sanhedrin displayed an assurance that amazed their antagonists: “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized that they were unschooled, ordinary men, they were astonished and they took note that these men had been with Jesus” (Acts 4:13).
We can follow God in full confidence in His wisdom, power, and plan. As we obey the Lord, we have assurance of our salvation (1 John 2:3). Also, having a good conscience aids our confidence, for we will have nothing to hide. “The righteous are as bold as a lion” (Proverbs 28:1).
Paul gives us something else we can have faith in: “Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ” (Philippians 1:6). Knowing that God promises to work in the lives of His children, Paul was confident that God would help the Galatians stand fast in the truth (Galatians 5:10).
When we put our trust in God and His revealed Word, our lives take on a new stability, focus, and poise. A biblical self-confidence is really a confidence in God’s Word and character. We put no confidence in our flesh, but we have every confidence in the God who made us, called us, saved us and keeps us.
Many define self-esteem as “feelings of worth based on their skills, accomplishments, status, financial resources, or appearance.” This kind of self-esteem can lead a person to feel independent and prideful and to indulge in self-worship, which dulls our desire for God. James 4:6 tells us that “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble” (ESV). If we only trust in our earthly resources, we will inevitably be left with a sense of worth based on pride. Jesus told us, “You also, when you have done everything you were told to do, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty’” (Luke 17:10).
This does not mean that Christians should have low self-esteem. It only means that our sense of being a good person should not depend on what we do, but rather on who we are in Christ. We need to humble ourselves before Him, and He will honor us. Psalm 16:2 reminds us, “I said to the Lord, ‘You are my Lord; apart from you I have no good thing.’” Christians attain self-worth and esteem by having a right relationship with God. We can know we are valuable because of the high price God paid for us through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ.
In one sense, low self-esteem is the opposite of pride. In another sense, low-self-esteem is a form of pride. Some people have low self-esteem because they want people to feel sorry for them, to pay attention to them, to comfort them. Low self-esteem can be a declaration of “look at me” just as much as pride. It simply takes a different route to get to the same destination, that is, self-absorption, self-obsession, and selfishness. Instead, we are to be selfless, to die to self, and to deflect any attention given to us to the great God who created and sustains us.
The Bible tells us that God gave us worth when He purchased us to be His own people (Ephesians 1:14). Because of this, only He is worthy of honor and praise. When we have healthy self-esteem, we will value ourselves enough to not become involved in sin that enslaves us. Instead, we should conduct ourselves with humility, thinking of others as better than ourselves (Philippians 2:3). Romans 12:3 warns, “Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the measure of faith God has given you” (BSB).
In Philippians 3:3, Paul writes, “We are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh” (KJV). Here, Paul articulates a foundational principle for believers: we are to have no confidence in the flesh.
The word flesh in this context refers to any effort, achievement, or accomplishment outside of Christ. Instead of boasting about our capabilities, we should boast about the Lord (see Jeremiah 9:24), who graciously provides “every good gift and every perfect gift” (James 1:17, ESV).
To further understand what it means to have no confidence in the flesh, we can look at the life of Paul. Before his conversion, Paul strictly adhered to the Mosaic Law, priding himself on his spiritual and ethnic privileges (Philippians 3:4–6). On the road to Damascus, however, Paul had a fateful encounter with the risen Lord, who transformed Paul into a preacher of the faith he once tried to destroy (Galatians 1:23). As follower of Christ, Paul counted everything in his former life as a “loss” for the sake of knowing Christ (Philippians 3:7–8). Paul went from having confidence in the flesh to having confidence in Christ. This was not about demeaning himself but about God redefining where Paul’s trust and confidence should be.
To have no confidence in the flesh means to renounce self-righteousness and walk by the Spirit. In Galatians 5:16–17, Paul contrasts living by the Spirit with living according to the flesh. The Spirit and the flesh are opposed to each other. Paul writes, “I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do” (ESV). By advising believers to have no confidence in the flesh, Paul commands us to be led by the Spirit, who produces fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control (Galatians 5:22–23, ESV).
Additionally, to have no confidence in the flesh means to embrace God’s sufficient grace. Again, Paul illustrates this. In 2 Corinthians 12, he speaks of a thorn in his flesh and how it taught him to delight in weaknesses and hardships for the sake of Christ. The physical malady led him to say, “When I am weak, then I am strong” (2 Corinthians 12:10, ESV). To have no confidence in the flesh, then, allows us to rely more on God’s grace. We redirect our boasting to glory in Christ alone.
To have no confidence in the flesh is to forsake self-reliance and depend solely on God. It means constantly returning to the foot of the cross, acknowledging our need for Christ’s redeeming work, and rejecting the temptation to claim any spiritual or moral achievement as our own. It also involves humbly recognizing that every good thing in our lives is due to God’s grace and not our worthiness (Ephesians 2:8–9).
To have no confidence in the flesh is to completely depend on Christ and forsake placing confidence in our own works. True circumcision is of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the Mosaic Law (Romans 2:29). As believers, we must redefine our notions of success in terms of its relation to Christ and His people. As we learn to have no confidence in the flesh, we become more attuned to the sanctifying power of the Holy Spirit, who makes us effective witnesses of the gospel. Let us, then, strive to surrender ourselves to God, living out our faith by the power of the Spirit.

The goal in Christian communication is not just clarity. The goal is not just to be understood. The goal is not just to be truthful. The goal is not only to be appropriate and helpful, but also to be JESUShaped disciples; it means we want to deliver our message based on their needs so it benefits, blesses, and builds up those who listen. Not only do we avoid crude, profane, or improper speech, but we are to fill our lives and the ears of those who hear us with the kinds of words that Jesus would share with people. God has called us to this high standard because we are to reflect and demonstrate Christ’s character in our lives, bearing the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23) as he transforms us to become more like our Savior (2 Corinthians 3:18).
Prayer
Tender Shepherd, please bless me with a pure heart so my words will be a helpful blessing to those who hear them. Please give me a kind heart so my words will build up those who hear them. Please help my heart be full of joy and encouragement so that I may benefit those who need my words. In Jesus’ name, I pray, asking the Spirit to help my words be shaped by the fruit you want to see come alive in me. Amen and Amen

The Seven Spirits of God and Jesus Christ Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
Chapter 4 from the Book “Not Just a Spirit” by Pastor Dirk .
Now we know of the 3rd personality of the Trinity the Holy
Spirit of God together within the Trinity, God the Father
and Jesus the Son.
Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of
the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the
Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him:
17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, this is my beloved Son, in
whom I am well pleased.
Here the Trinity in action Jesus in the Water, God’s Voice from
Heaven and the Holy Spirit in the form off a dove settling on
Jesus from Heaven.
In the Book of Revelations from John we read of 4 verses where
John mentions the 7 Spirits of God.
The 7 Spirits of God
Rev 4:5 and out of the throne proceeded lightning’s and thundering and
voices: and there were seven lamps of fire burning before the throne,
which are the seven Spirits of God.
Rev 1:4 John to the seven churches which are in Asia: Grace be unto you,
and peace, from him which is, and which was, and which is to come; and
from the seven Spirits which are before his throne
Rev 3:1 And unto the angel of the church in Sardis write; These things
saith he that hath the seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars; I
know thy works, that thou hast a name that thou livest, and art dead.
Rev 5:6 and I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four
beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been
slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven
Spirits of God sent forth into all the earth.
(Just for info: the seven Stars is the seven Churches.)
We know the Holy Spirit, The comforter, the one that will lead us
to Eternal life. But do we know all 7 Spirits of God?
In this Chapter we will meet the 7 Spirits of God, The Gifts they
bring and the Fruits you bare if you are baptized with a Spirit.
Let’s meet the Seven Spirits of God.
The Spirit Nr 1
The Spirit of Grace and Power
The Spirit of Power and Fire according to the Book of Acts,
everybody starts with this Spirit when Baptized.
Isa 11:2 and the spirit of the LORD (The Holy Spirit) shall rest upon
him, 1. The spirit of grace and power 2.the spirit of wisdom and
understanding, 3.the spirit of counsel and might, 4.the spirit of
knowledge and of the fear(respect) for/ of the LORD;
Jesus was filled with this Spirit from Birth.
Mat 1:18 now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his
mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she
was found with child of the Holy Ghost.
19 Then Joseph her husband, being a just man, and not willing to make
her a public example, was minded to put her away privily.
20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the
Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of
David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is
conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost
The Spirit Nr 2
The Spirit of Wisdom and Understanding
Wisdom as seen with King Solomon, understanding problems
and the Wisdom to solve them with the Holy Spirit’s help; Godly
wisdom and understanding. To understand the scriptures in the
Bible, Wisdom to see the signs of the End times, understanding
the steps to Eternal Life
The Spirit Nr 3
The Spirit of counsel and might
We will look at this Spirit later in the chapter. This Spirit was not
active yet. Jesus was the only one that ever received this Spirit to
date. This mighty Spirit will be poured out in the end times.
The Spirit Nr 4
The Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD
This Spirit brings the Gift of Knowledge according to 1 Co 12.
Divine Knowledge from God and with it the Fear (Respect) for
God knowing that God is the only source of providence, healing,
Sheppard, peace and more.
The Spirit Nr 5
The Spirit of Grace and Supplications (Prayer) –
The Spirit of Healing and Faith
A healing and prayer ministry filled with faith; this is the only
Spirit that brings a Gift in plural (Gifts of Healing).
Meaning there are several types of healing Gifts.
Zech 12:10 and I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the
inhabitants of Jerusalem, the Spirit of grace and of supplications
(Prayer): (ALSO the Spirit of Faith and Healing). and they shall look
upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as
one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as
one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.
1Co 12:9 to another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of
healing by the same Spirit;
The Spirit Nr 6
The Spirit of Miracles and Prophecy
This Spirit is given to children of God that need to evangelise the
Good news of Jesus Christ to the World; given Miracles in
human and in the Spirit world; casting out demons and more.
1Co 12:10, To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy;
The Spirit Nr 7
The Spirit of Life
This Spirit generates two ultimate Gifts, one the ability to baptize
others with the Holy Spirit and the next raising people from the
dead.
The Gift: discerning of spirits
Rev 11:11 And after three days and a half the Spirit of life from God
entered into them, and they stood upon their feet; and great fear fell
upon them which saw them.
Rom 8:2 for the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death.
We see in this study – 1 Co 12 that the Holy Spirit is in control of
the other Spirits of God and activates them in the spirits of sin
free child of God.
Jesus was filled with 4 Spirits of God at conception by the Holy
Spirit.
Isa 11:1 There shall come forth a shoot from the stump of Jesse, and a
branch from his roots shall bear fruit.
2 And the Spirit of the LORD (The Holy Spirit) shall rest upon him, the
Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
3 And his delight shall be in the fear of the LORD. He shall not judge by
what his eyes see, or decide disputes by what his ears hear,
1. The Spirit of Grace and Power.
2. The Spirit of wisdom and understanding.
Luke 2:40 and the child (Jesus) grew and became strong, filled with
wisdom. And the favor of God was upon him.
Luke 2:47 and all who heard him were amazed at his (Jesus)
understanding and his answers.
3. The Spirit of counsel and might.
Luke 2:48 and when his parents saw him (Jesus), they were astonished.
And his mother said to him, “Son, why have you treated us so? Behold,
your father and I have been searching for you in great distress.”
49 And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not
know that I must be in my Father’s house?”
4. The Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the LORD.
Luke 2:47 everyone who heard him was surprised at how much he
knew and at the answers he gave.
From the age of 1 to the age of 32 there was no mention of
Jesus having healing, miracles and prophecy power or gifts.
But at the age of 33 when Jesus started His Ministry
– the Holy Spirit in a form of a dove came and settled on Him
and they saw a light from Heaven on Him, just after he was
baptized in the Jordan River.
(I personally believe it was a Cherubim with a face of an Eagle
to the front. But soft and gentle with the looks of a dove, the
lighting confirmed it was a Cherubim)
Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when He had been baptized, went up immediately
out of the water. And lo, the heavens were opened to Him, and He saw
the Spirit of God descending like a dove and lighting upon Him.
17 And lo, a voice from Heaven, saying, this is My beloved Son, in whom
I am well pleased.
At this point Jesus was filled with the balance of the
7 Spirits of God. Where He received the Gifts needed
for His 3 year Ministry unto the age of 36 (When He
was crucified).
He received.
5. The Spirit of Faith and Healing.
This is where Jesus received His Faith for the ministry and
also His topped up faith in God, and also the Gift of healing
of sickness and illness.
6. The Spirit of Miracles and Prophecy.
The ability to perform miracles and to prophesize about
the future
7. The Spirit of Life.
The ability to raise the dead and after He risen from the
dead He had the ability to breathe on His disciples and to
receive the Holy Spirit.
We will look into this, in Chapter 6.
In Acts 9 we see that the Children of God were baptized with a
combination the 7 Spirits from God.
But nowhere I read or find any trace of Spirit nr 2.
The Spirit of Council and Might
Council = Hebrew = Omah: pronounced ay-tsaw
Means: Advice, Plan, Prudence, advisement, Council =
Councillors, Purpose.
Might = Hebrew = “ghurah” pronounce gheb-oo-raw
Means: by force, valour, victory, mastery, might, mighty act,
power or strength.
This Spirit brings Counselling and Strength; I believe this Spirit
will only be poured out in the end times, and given to the Spirit
filled Children of God (Sealed for Eternity).
This will equip them for the difficult times ahead and for the
Ministry of the Holy Spirit (The Late rains coming).
This Spirit will bring the ability to comfort and uplift fellow
children of God.
This special powers of God will be given to protect the children of
God against the Mark of the Beast and its forces (Might in other
words), so that they can stay strong and be sealed by the Holy
Spirit for Eternal life by the Mark (Seal) of God.
Pray to God for the baptism and re filling of the 7 Spirits of God
so that we can be ready for the end times. These times are closer
than we can think, and to enter the Capital of the Kingdom of
God = Heaven (The Eternal life).
A Warning message: Dear Children of God, stay away from
anything that can come between you and God, get your spirit
filled with the 7 Spirits of God = The Baptism of the Holy Spirit.
NOTE : That all 7 Spirit of God is Controlled by the Holy Spirit and He gives according to His will.
