ABSTAIN from ALL Appearance of EVIL

Many Christians assume that to “abstain from all appearance of evil” (1 Thessalonians 5:22, KJV) is to avoid any behavior anyone might perceive as being evil. Not only do we flee from that which is evil, we flee from that which appears to be evil. For instance, a pastor should not be seen frequenting a bar because someone may think he is getting drunk. However, the actual meaning of this verse is a matter of some debate within Christendom.

Depending on the Bible version you use, 1 Thessalonians 5:22 refers to the “appearance of evil” (KJV), “every kind of evil” (NIV and NLT), or “every form of evil” (NRSV, NKJV, and ESV). Each is a good translation. The Greek word translated “appearance,” “form,” or “kind” can mean any of these things. The same word is used in 2 Corinthians 5:7 and translated as “sight.”

Obviously, the difference in translations can lead to a difference in application. Is it the appearance of evil we should be concerned with, or is it staying away from all forms of evil?

One problem with emphasizing the appearance of evil is that it can make us slaves to the perceptions of others. There will always be someone who thinks that something you are doing is wrong, or that it looks wrong to him. So, rather than spending our time getting to know God and serving Him, we worry about the possibility that someone, somewhere, might misconstrue our actions. In the same letter that he wrote about avoiding evil, Paul wrote, “Just as we have been approved by God to be entrusted with the gospel, so we speak, not to please man, but to please God who tests our hearts” (1 Thessalonians 2:4). Our goal is to live righteously before God, not to comply with others’ arbitrary standards of conduct.

At the same time, we are instructed not to allow our Christian freedom to become a stumbling block to others (1 Corinthians 8:9). We are also instructed to be salt and light in the world (Matthew 5:13-16). Christians have been set apart (2 Corinthians 6:17).

Perhaps looking at the broader context of 1 Thessalonians 5:22 will prove instructive. The verses immediately preceding Paul’s exhortation state, “We ask you, brothers, to respect those who labor among you and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love because of their work. Be at peace among yourselves. And we urge you, brothers, admonish the idle, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with them all. See that no one repays anyone evil for evil, but always seek to do good to one another and to everyone. Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies, but test everything; hold fast what is good” (1 Thessalonians 5:12-21). This is a quick rundown of how the Thessalonians should be living, “in a manner worthy of God” (1 Thessalonians 2:12).

So, what is our conclusion? To avoid the appearance of evil, or every form of evil, means to stay far away from evil. We need not become legalistic regarding what others may perceive to be evil. But we do need to remain cognizant of our witness to the world and of our duty to support fellow believers. We should also be aware of our own tendencies toward sin. Rather than flirting with what could lead us into sin, we avoid evil altogether. It is important not to judge others without first judging our own hearts and motives (Matthew 7:1-5).

Avoiding the appearance of evil, or abstaining from every form of evil, means to live in God’s light by the power of the Holy Spirit. We “take no part in the unfruitful works of darkness, but instead expose them” (Ephesians 5:11). We worry not about the perceptions of others but about the integrity of our own walk with Christ. When we avoid every kind of evil, we “make no provision for the flesh, to gratify its desires” (Romans 13:14, ESV).

Evil is that which is morally wrong, sinful, or wicked. It is anything contrary to the holy nature and will of God. However, some biblical words translated as “evil,” particularly in older English such as in the King James Version, can also mean calamity, disaster, adversity, or harm. In those contexts, “evil” does not refer to moral wickedness. God may bring calamity or judgment, but He never commits moral evil.

Evil behavior includes sin committed against other people (murder, theft, adultery) and evil committed against God (unbelief, idolatry, blasphemy). From the disobedience in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:9) to the wickedness of Babylon the Great (Revelation 18:2), the Bible speaks of the fact of evil, and man is held responsible for the evil he commits: “The one who sins is the one who will die” (Ezekiel 18:20).

Essentially, evil is a lack of goodness. Moral evil is not a physical thing; it is a lack or privation of a good thing. As Christian philosopher J. P. Moreland has noted, “Evil is a lack of goodness. It is goodness spoiled. You can have good without evil, but you cannot have evil without good.” Or as Christian apologist Greg Koukl has said, “Human freedom was used in such a way as to diminish goodness in the world, and that diminution, that lack of goodness, that is what we call evil.”

God is love (1 John 4:8); the absence of love in a person is un-God-like and therefore evil. And an absence of love manifests itself in unloving behavior. The same can be said concerning God’s mercy, justice, patience, etc. The lack of these godly qualities in anyone constitutes evil. That evil then manifests itself in behavior that is unmerciful, unjust, impatient, etc., bringing more harm into the good world that God has made. As it turns out, we lack a lot: “As it is written: ‘There is no one righteous, not even one’” (Romans 3:10).

Moral evil is wrong done to others, and it can exist even when unaccompanied by external action. Murder is an evil action, but it has its start with the moral evil of hatred in the heart (Matthew 5:21–22). Committing adultery is evil, but so is the moral evil of lust in the heart (Matthew 5:27–28). Jesus said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles them. For it is from within, out of a person’s heart, that evil thoughts come—sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, malice, deceit, lewdness, envy, slander, arrogance and folly. All these evils come from inside and defile a person” (Mark 7:20–23).

Those who fall into evil behavior usually start slowly. Paul shows the tragic progression into more and more evil in Romans 1. It starts with refusing to glorify God or give thanks to Him (Romans 1:21), and it ends with God giving them over to a “depraved mind” and allowing them to be “filled with every kind of wickedness” (verses 28–29).

Those who practice evil are in Satan’s trap and are slaves to sin: “Opponents [of the Lord’s servant] must be gently instructed, in the hope that God will grant them repentance leading them to a knowledge of the truth, and that they will come to their senses and escape from the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will” (2 Timothy 2:25–26; see also John 8:34). Only by the grace of God can we be set free.

Physical evil is the trouble that befalls people in the world, and it may or may not be linked to moral evil or divine judgment. Ecclesiastes 11:2 counsels us to diversify our investments, for this reason: “thou knowest not what evil shall be upon the earth” (KJV). The word evil in this case means “disaster,” “misfortune,” or “calamity,” and that’s how other translations word it. Sometimes, physical evil is simply the result of an accident or causes unknown, with no known moral cause; examples would include injuries, car wrecks, hurricanes, and earthquakes. Other times, physical evil is God’s retribution for the sins of an individual or group. Sodom and the surrounding cities were destroyed for their sins (Genesis 19), and God “made them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly” (2 Peter 2:6). Many times, God warned Israel of the calamities that awaited them if they rebelled: “[The LORD] also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words: but will arise against the house of the evildoers, and against the help of them that work iniquity” (Isaiah 31:2, KJV). In all cases, God works through the situation to bring about His good purpose (Romans 8:28).

God is not the author of moral evil; rather, it is His holiness that defines it. Created in God’s image, we bear the responsibility to make moral choices that please God and conform to His will. He wills our sanctification (1 Thessalonians 4:3) and does not wish us to sin (James 1:13). In repentance and faith in Christ, we have forgiveness of sin and a reversal of the moral evil within us (Acts 3:19). As God’s children, we walk according to this command: “Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good” (Romans 12:21).

Messages constantly bombard us. Movies, songs, commercials, books—they all have a message behind them. As believers, we are called to be in the world but not of the world (John 17:14–15). This means we cannot completely isolate and insulate ourselves from the messages that surround us. Instead, we must test every message that comes our way and hold fast only to that which is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

In 1 Thessalonians 5:20–22, Paul exhorts believers to “not treat prophecies with contempt but test them all; hold on to what is good, reject every kind of evil.” In the NASB, these verses are worded as “do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good; abstain from every form of evil.” Prophecies are messages from God. In Old Testament times, prophecies often foretold of things to come. Today, prophesying refers to proclaiming and explaining the written Word of God. With every message we encounter, whether from a sermon, a social media post, or even a conversation with a fellow believer, we are to test all things and hold fast to that which is good.

Believers are not to accept every teaching; rather, we examine every message against Scripture to determine its validity. The apostle John affirms Paul’s admonition. In 1 John 4:1, John writes, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.” Believers are to test the messages they hear with God’s Word (see Acts 17:11). If the messages are not in alignment with God’s Word, they are not of God and are therefore not good. Believers are told to hold fast to that which is good, that which is in agreement with God’s Word.

To “hold fast to that which is good” means to “be diligent,” “cling to,” or “take a firm grasp of” that which is good. God’s Word tells us what is good and worthy of grasping firmly. Philippians 4:8 tells us to keep our mind fixed on “whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable.” We are also to hold fast to the Lord (Deuteronomy 10:20; Joshua 23:8), which means loving Him, walking in obedience to Him, and serving Him with all our heart and soul (Joshua 22:5). Believers continue holding fast to His Word until He returns (Revelation 2:25; cf. Proverbs 4:4; 1 Corinthians 15:1–2).

Holding fast to the truth of God’s Word allows us to stand firm when deception comes our way (Revelation 3:11). Those who hold fast to that which is good obey God’s Word and experience true freedom found in Christ. Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching, you are really my disciples. Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31–32). Holding fast to the truth brings freedom from sin and produces steadfastness in us, which allows us to run the race of life with endurance (Hebrews 12:1).

Those who follow Jesus are mindful of the messages that vie for our attention. As we examine everything carefully to see if it aligns with God’s Word, we can choose to hold fast to that which is good and to abstain from every form of evil. In doing this, we can be a light for Christ in this world and “shine among them like stars in the sky as [we] hold firmly to the word of life” (Philippians 2:14–16).

Tea Time Manna

Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe.
—Proverbs 29:25

Fear is a paralyzing emotion. It robs us of vitality, decision-making ability, hope, and strength. Courage helps us step out of fear’s paralysis and turn its nervous edge into motivation and power. But this kind of courage comes to us fully only when we know that all the evil one and his allies can really have of us are our bodies. The evil one and his allies can take our physical life; but if they do, they send us to be with Jesus (Philippians 1:20-21, 23-24). They cannot take our mind, our attitude, our faith, and, most of all, our relationship with God, given to us through Jesus and secured by the promise of the Holy Spirit’s presence. Let’s put our trust in the Lord because the fear of man will prove to be a snare. But when we trust in the Lord, our future is kept safe with him, “hidden with Christ in God” until we share in Jesus’ glory (Colossians 3:3-4). Amen! Hallelujah!!

Prayer

O God, my Savior, my great Redeemer, and Lord, I thank you for triumphing through Jesus over all that I fear and all that could enslave me. Jesus, you are my hero whom I can trust and my source of hope, enabling me to live victoriously. In your name, my Conquering King, Jesus, the victorious Rider on the white horse,* I thank and praise you, O God. Amen and Amen

The 4 Horses are Also Mentioned in the Old Testament . Sag 6 v 1- 6 The same Chapter and Amount of Verses . But something Interesting , The Future Direction they take and Grouping is Mentioned in this Chapter

A Vision of Four Chariots
Zec 6:1 And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
Zec 6:2 In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;

Zec 6:6 The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them;

Meaning That The Roman Catholic and the Jesuit order went North of Israel too Rome Italy and ruled from there !!!

and the grisled go forth toward the south country.
Zec 6:7 And the bay went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.
Zec 6:8 Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.

5 Seals Opened , 6th Seal Next

The 6th Seal = The 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ , The Rapture and the Battle of Armageddon.

Rev 6:12 And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood;
Rev 6:13 And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.
Rev 6:14 And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.
Rev 6:15 And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;
Rev 6:16 And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb:
Rev 6:17 For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?
2 Peter 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Jesus says this in His own Words!
Mat 24:29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, andthe moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:
Mat 24:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
Mat 24:31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
1Thess 5:2 For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.
1Thess 5:3 For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
(Immediately After) = The Great Tribulation.

Mat 24:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.
Mat 24:22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect’s sake those days shall be shortened.

Jesus gives 4 Clues.
1. the sun be darkened
2. the moon shall not give her light
3. the stars shall fall from heaven
4. the powers of the heavens shall be shaken

We have one Sun, one Moon and Starry heavens.
This means the Sun will not shine anymore!
The Moon will not reflect the sunlight anymore!
There will be no stars in the sky , it will appear like all stars has fallen from the sky, the reason , no sunlight will reflect from it anymore for us to see the stars.

Were in the Bible do we read of an event were the Sun will be Darkened and the Moon not signing anymore?

Revelations 16. The Wrath of God. (After the Mark of the Beast was implemented)
Rev 16:7 And I heard another out of the altar say, Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are thy judgments.
Rev 16:8 And the fourth angel poured out his vial upon the sun; and power was given unto him to scorch men with fire.
Rev 16:9 And men were scorched with great heat, and blasphemed the name of God, which hath power over these plagues: and they repented not to give him glory.
Rev 16:10 And the fifth angel poured out his vial upon the seat of the beast; and his kingdom was full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues for pain,

Remember the Opening Verse!
2Pe 3:10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Let’s Continue with the Wrath of God in Rev 16.
Rev 16:15 Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Rev 16:16 And he gathered them together into a place called in the Hebrew tongue Armageddon.
Rev 16:17 And the seventh angel poured out his vial into the air; and there came a great voice out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, It is done.
Rev 16:18 And there were voices, and thunders, and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such as was not since men were upon the earth, so mighty an earthquake, and so great.
Rev 16:19 And the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell: and great Babylon came in remembrance before God, to give unto her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of his wrath.
Rev 16:20 And every island fled away, and the mountains were not found.
Rev 16:21 And there fell upon men a great hail out of heaven, every stone about the weight of a talent: and men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail; for the plague thereof was exceeding great.

SO WHAT DID YOU JUST READ FROM THE BIBLE?

1. Jesus will come after the Great Tribulation.
2. Jesus will come after the Sun was darkened.
3. Jesus will come after The Moon does not reflect the sun anymore.
4. Jesus will come in Total Darkness.
5. After Jesus arrived the “Rapture” will take place.
6. After the “Rapture” there will be total destruction on Earth.
3000 Year old Prophecy of Zechariah comes to Life! By Pastor Dirk Flemix.
In the Old Testament the Prophet Zechariah recorded this Prophecy.
Off 4 Chariots and Horses traveling from one direction to another. This the Angel explained to be evil spirits that report to the lord of the World being satan.
We read of Chariot with Red Horses, a Chariot with Black Horses , a 3rd Chariot with White Horses and a 4th Chariot with Grisled and Bay Horses being Light Green Pale Horses.
Zec 6:1 And I turned, and lifted up mine eyes, and looked, and, behold, there came four chariots out from between two mountains; and the mountains were mountains of brass.
2 In the first chariot were red horses; and in the second chariot black horses;
3 And in the third chariot white horses; and in the fourth chariot grisled and bay horses.
4 Then I answered and said unto the angel that talked with me, What are these, my lord?
5 And the angel answered and said unto me, These are the four spirits of the heavens, which go forth from standing before the Lord of all the earth.
We read of the same color Horses in the New Testament in the Book of Revelations by John. In revelations there are no Chariots or multiple Horse, But a Single Horse with a Rider. And the Rider is explained in detail.

What is interesting is that in both the new and old Testament this is recorded in the same Chapter and the same verses.
Zec 6 v 1-8 and Rev 6 v 1-8

Rev 6:1 And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.
2 And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
3 And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.
4 And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
5 And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
7 And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.
8 And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.

This also the 1st 4 Seals opened according to John.
This 4 Horses with their Horsemen describes a spirit of believe system controlled by satan.

The 1st Horse in Revelations. The White Horse

And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.
This was the Catholic Believe system that started around 70 AC and at the head of this believe system the Pope.

The 2nd Horse in Revelations. The Red Horse
And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.
This was Communism and Socialism that started around the 1800 AC. Countries like Red Russia, Red China and Red Romania.

The 3rd Horse in Revelations. The Black Horse.
And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, a measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
This was Capitalism and Free Trade that Started around the 1900 AC.

The 4TH Horse in Revelations. The Pale (Light Green) Horse.
and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.
This is Islamism or ISIS that was born in 2011.

What is interesting is the Directions these Horses went in the Book of Zechariah.

Zec 6:6 The black horses which are therein go forth into the north country; and the white go forth after them; and the grisled go forth toward the south country.
Zec 6:7 And the red went forth, and sought to go that they might walk to and fro through the earth: and he said, Get you hence, walk to and fro through the earth. So they walked to and fro through the earth.
Zec 6:8 Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.
The Black Horse being Capitalism went into the North Countries. Being the North America’s and Europe. And the White Horse being Catholic Believe system went after them. This is where the Illuminati were born.

Note that the Grisled Pale Light Green Horses went into the South, Being ISIS in the Middle East. And the Red Horses moved with the Light Green Horses but went to and fro through the Earth and at the end they both walked to and fro on the Earth. The Grisled Light Green Horse = Islamism or ISIS Currently and The Red Horse being Communism leaders Russia and China.
We are currently seeing that Communism and Islamism are riding together, The Alliance between Red Russia and Islam’s Iran and Turkey. Russia inviting these two Islam Countries into the BRICS Country alliance.

BRICS Being, Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. And now the 2 newest member countries Iran and Turkey.

The Red Horse Riding with the Light Green Horse to and fro over the Earth.
We are currently seeing to World forces competing.

The Black and White Horse Alliance. The NATO , EU World Order.
And
The Red and Light Green Horse Alliance. The BRICS Alliance, the New World Order.

In Zechariah 6 v 8. it speaks of an invasion.
Can this invasion be that the Red = Communism and Light Green = Islamism alliance want to invade the North Countries being North America and Europe = NATO EU and the Illuminati?

Or is it that The North Alliance are trying to silent the New World Order being the Red and Light Green Horses alliance = The BRICS Alliance.

Maybe the 5th Seal opened according to Revelations can shed more light to this Question.

Rev 6:9 And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of God, and for the testimony which they held:
10 And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O Lord, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?
11 And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.

We see in these verses there was a Christian Tribulation explained.
Currently Christians is being killed with the Sword = beheaded in over 12 Islamic controlled Countries and the Islamic Invaders into Europe are now doing the same. 5 of the 7 Countries under the BRICS Alliance are not Christian Countries. The Only Countries claiming to be Majority Christian is Brazil and South Africa. Both Russia and China are from the Red Horse origin and Iran and Turkey from the Light Green Horse origin. With India with several believe systems but in majority Islam, then Hindu and then a list of other believe systems, with a minority of Christians.

And Russia placing a Ban on Evangelism in 2016.

NOTE: That the BRICS Country Alliance will be the Army that will invade Israel according to the Ezekiel 38 and 39 wars. The Gog = Russia and Magog = Iran War. This Alliance is mentioned with Turkey and more countries.

Your question now! Who will be the World Order at the End of Days during the 7 Year Peace agreements and the Great Tribulation?
This Gog and Magog army that will invade the North Countries and Israel.

Eze 39:1 Therefore, thou son of man, prophesy against Gog, and say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
2 And I will turn thee back, and leave but the sixth part of thee, and will cause thee to come up from the north parts, and will bring thee upon the mountains of Israel:
3 And I will smite thy bow out of thy left hand, and will cause thine arrows to fall out of thy right hand.
4 Thou shalt fall upon the mountains of Israel, thou, and all thy bands, and the people that is with thee: I will give thee unto the ravenous birds of every sort, and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.
With most of the BRICS Army defeated by God Himself. The Old World Order. NATO, EU and the Illuminati will become the New World Order again and scream Peace, Safety and Security and arrange the 7 Year Peace Agreement.

America’s Last Soldier Has Left Iraq – But Is Babylon’s Story Just Beginning?

After more than two decades of American military involvement, the final U.S. forces have departed Iraq.

The withdrawal closes another remarkable chapter that began with the overthrow of Saddam Hussein in 2003, continued through America’s first withdrawal in 2011, and reopened when ISIS conquered huge portions of Iraq and Syria and forced American troops back into the country in 2014.

There are plenty of reasons to wonder what happens next.

Iran and its allies have celebrated the American departure as a strategic victory. Iran-backed militias remain powerful inside Iraq, while ISIS has never completely disappeared. Iraqi security forces must now shoulder greater responsibility without the permanent American military presence that once stood behind them.

But for students of Bible prophecy, Iraq raises an entirely different question.

About 50 miles south of Baghdad lie the ruins of Babylon.

This was the capital of Nebuchadnezzar. It was the empire that conquered Jerusalem, destroyed Solomon’s Temple and carried the Jewish people into captivity.

Yet Babylon doesn’t disappear when the Old Testament ends.

It returns dramatically in Revelation 17 and 18.

And that raises one of the most fascinating questions in Bible prophecy:

Is Babylon destined to rise again?

Babylon: A City Or A System?

Christians have debated that question for generations, including conservative dispensational prophecy scholars who agree on much of the end-times framework but don’t necessarily agree on every detail concerning Babylon.

John F. Walvoord, the longtime president of Dallas Theological Seminary and one of the most influential dispensational theologians of the 20th century, distinguished between the two Babylon’s depicted in Revelation.

He viewed Revelation 17 primarily as religious or ecclesiastical Babylon–a vast apostate religious system associated with the final world order.

Revelation 18, however, describes something different: an astonishing political and commercial power whose influence reaches kings, merchants and nations across the earth.

And here Walvoord entertained a remarkable possibility.

Could that Babylon actually be Babylon?

Walvoord noted that Isaiah 13 and Jeremiah 50-51 describe Babylon suffering a sudden and devastating destruction. Yet historical Babylon declined over a long period. It wasn’t suddenly obliterated when the Babylonian Empire fell.

Walvoord therefore concluded that, in several respects, a rebuilt Babylon provides the simpler literal fulfillment of those Old Testament prophecies and Revelation 18. He also allowed for the possibility of Rome functioning as an ecclesiastical center while rebuilt Babylon becomes the political and commercial capital.

That interpretation has been taken even further by contemporary prophecy scholar Mark Hitchcock.

Hitchcock argues that Babylon began as both a literal city and a center of organized rebellion against God. From Babel onward, Babylon represents mankind attempting to build civilization apart from its Creator.

But Hitchcock doesn’t believe that symbolism eliminates geography.

He believes Revelation ultimately takes us back to the place where the story began: literal Babylon in modern Iraq.

Under that interpretation, Revelation 17 describes a final religious system centered there, while Revelation 18 reveals Babylon as the political and economic center of Antichrist’s world system.

In other words, Babylon could be both a city and a system.

Could Babylon Really Be Rebuilt?

At the moment, ancient Babylon looks nothing like Revelation 18.

UNESCO describes the location about 85 kilometers south of Baghdad as an archaeological site containing ancient walls, gates, palaces and temples. Approximately 85 percent of the property remains unexcavated.

Saddam Hussein famously tried to resurrect some of Babylon’s former grandeur. Beginning in the 1980s, his government reconstructed portions of the ancient city, sometimes placing modern bricks directly over ancient foundations and stamping them with Saddam’s name.

His ambitions were unmistakable. The slogan of the 1987 Babylon International Festival reportedly proclaimed a renaissance stretching “from Nebuchadnezzar II to Saddam Hussein.”

But Saddam’s reconstructed Babylon was nothing remotely resembling Revelation’s global commercial powerhouse.

If Hitchcock and others are correct, that transformation remains future.

Babylon As A Global System

There is another possibility that shouldn’t be dismissed.

Babylon may primarily describe the culmination of the worldwide system that began at Babel.

Look at Revelation 17-18.

Religion is involved.

Political power is involved.

Kings are involved.

International commerce is involved.

Merchants become extraordinarily wealthy through it.

The nations participate in it.

And when Babylon suddenly collapses, economic powers around the world mourn.

That sounds much larger than one archaeological site in Iraq.

But these interpretations don’t necessarily contradict each other.

Washington is simultaneously a city and shorthand for American political power. Wall Street is a physical location and a term representing an enormous financial system.

In the same way, a future Babylon could conceivably be a literal headquarters for a worldwide religious, political and economic order.

Is America Mystery Babylon?

Then comes the question many American Christians ask.

Could Revelation actually be describing the United States?

At first glance, some parallels can sound compelling.

America possesses enormous economic power. Global merchants depend heavily upon American consumers and financial markets. American culture reaches virtually everywhere. Wealth, luxury, materialism and moral rebellion are certainly present.

Some interpreters have consequently identified America–or even New York City–as Mystery Babylon.

Hitchcock strongly rejects that conclusion.

He argues that Revelation identifies Babylon as a specific city and attaches characteristics to it that don’t comfortably fit America, including its association with the killing of God’s prophets. Hitchcock instead expects a literal Babylon in Iraq and says he does not believe America is identified in Revelation 17-18.

That’s an important distinction.

America can display characteristics of Babylon without being the Babylon of Revelation.

A nation can embrace materialism, pride, sexual immorality and rebellion against God without Scripture therefore identifying that nation as Mystery Babylon.

The Bible never explicitly calls the United States Babylon.

America’s Absence May Be The Bigger Question

In fact, Hitchcock makes a different observation that may be even more sobering.

He doesn’t believe America is clearly identified anywhere in end-times prophecy.

For a nation that currently exercises enormous military, financial and cultural influence, that absence raises obvious questions.

Perhaps America’s influence declines. Perhaps international power simply reorganizes around different centers. Prophecy scholars have proposed numerous scenarios.

But Scripture doesn’t tell us precisely why America isn’t clearly identifiable, so humility is required.

We shouldn’t turn speculation into prophecy.

Back To Iraq

And that brings us back to today’s remarkable development.

American soldiers are leaving the country containing ancient Babylon.

Iranian influence remains substantial. Iran-backed militias remain. ISIS remains a concern. The Middle East’s balance of power continues shifting. America may have withdrawn its troops, although Washington retains enormous economic influence over Iraq, including through the financial arrangements surrounding Iraqi oil revenues.

The American withdrawal does not start some identifiable prophetic countdown.

But we’re still left with something extraordinary.

A city that much of the world considers a relic of ancient history occupies a remarkably prominent place in the Bible’s description of the final period of human government.

And if the literal interpretation is correct, Babylon’s greatest moment may not be behind it.

Babylon And Jerusalem

Perhaps the most fascinating part of the entire story is how Revelation ultimately contrasts two cities.

Babylon represents mankind’s rebellion, wealth, false religion and civilization organized independently of God.

Jerusalem represents something entirely different.

Revelation 17 and 18 describe Babylon in all its glory–and then its catastrophic destruction.

Just a few chapters later, Revelation 21 and 22 introduce another magnificent city: the New Jerusalem.

Hitchcock describes the contrast as man’s city versus God’s city. Babylon disappears. New Jerusalem remains.

America may be leaving Iraq.

Whether Revelation’s Babylon ultimately proves to be a literally rebuilt city, a worldwide system headquartered there, or is best understood primarily as a symbol of the final anti-God world order remains debated even among conservative Bible scholars.

But Babylon’s ultimate fate isn’t debated.

The system appears powerful.

Its merchants become wealthy.

Its rulers believe themselves secure.

And then it falls.

That may ultimately be Babylon’s greatest prophetic lesson.

Human empires rise. Political systems change. Nations accumulate extraordinary wealth and military power. Civilizations convince themselves that what they have built will endure.

Babylon once did exactly that.

And according to Revelation, Babylon will do it again.

But Babylon doesn’t get the final word.

Christ does.

Experts: The Church Must Wake Up to Dangers of Islam

Growing embrace of politicized Islam is “perplexing” to those with first-hand experience of its oppressive system, confessed Pastor Shahram Hadian, an Iranian Christian convert from Islam, at Family Research Council’s 2026 Pray Vote Stand Summit. “America is trying to give it a hug. We’re going on dates with it. We’re romancing it. We’re trying to find out, ‘Are we compatible? Can we get along? Can we get married?’ This is insanity!”

“Iran fell in 1979 and became an Islamic theocracy under Sharia,” Hadian said. “The Iranian people … have died this year alone by the tens of thousands to liberate themselves not just from this regime, but from Islam. … They’re still trying to fight for freedom. And America is going down without a fight.”

Courage and Cowardice

A recent illustration comes in the race for U.S. Senate in Michigan, where strict Muslim candidate Abdul El-Sayed (D) has refused to condemn the Islamist regime in Tehran. At a recent townhall, a University of Michigan student from Iran, Iman Dashti, confronted El-Sayed about this decision. “My cousin was hunted in the streets of Iran by the IRGC because her hijab wasn’t on right. My uncle was sentenced to die, received 50 lashings by Ali Khamenei’s government … I wanted to ask if you stand unequivocally against the IRGC, against the Islamic Republic of Iran that has killed 50,000 protesters.”

Dashti’s courage to speak out against the evils of Islam is rare. If he were not Iranian, he might have thought twice about saying anything, because he might have been accused of racism (even so, Dashti has encountered significant personal consequences for speaking out).

“Most people don’t want to say anything about Islam because they’re scared to death of being called a racist. We need to get over that,” former Congresswoman Michele Bachmann urged. “The people that have come into the United States, that are Muslim … are pushing Sharia law … are pushing dominance. … That’s the goal: it’s dominance, and it’s takeover.”

“Minneapolis was the first city in America that allowed the Muslim call to prayer,” Bachmann explained. “I called up one of our freedom organizations in Minnesota. They wouldn’t touch it because they didn’t want to be called racist. So, we tried to get pastors to do something. They wouldn’t do anything because they don’t want to be called a racist.”

“We have to get real. We’ve got to wake up and realize what this is,” she insisted. “In Congress, we were taught a fantasy view of Islam that has never existed in the history of the world. The fantasy that says Islam is a religion of peace. That’s the mantra we were all told to repeat. It doesn’t exist anywhere in history.

Religious Freedom

A second factor that deters criticism of Islam is more flattering to the American spirit. “As soon as you bring this up, somebody’s going to say, ‘Well, we have religious freedom in this country,'” observed FRC President Tony Perkins.

While that is true, “we have to have a national discussion about the nature and parameters of religious freedom,” suggested Jihad Watch Founder Robert Spencer. “Several years ago, two Muslim doctors in the Detroit area … were put on trial for carrying out female genital mutilation. … A judge struck down the law and said this was a local criminal matter. … He did not address the most important aspect of the case, which was that the doctors had argued that they should be free to do this because it was part of their religion.”

“It still hasn’t been tested in American courts,” Spencer added. “And so, this is the national conversation we have to have: does religious freedom give you some kind of license to break other laws?”

Spencer suggested the Supreme Court 1890 precedent against Mormon polygamy provides a roadmap to answer this question. “The Supreme Court was assuming that there was a limit to the religious freedom based on the freedom and rights of women not to be treated as commodities in a polygamous marriage,” he pointed out. “So, it would seem to me the same kind of idea could be applied to Sharia, in all its dehumanizing aspects and discriminatory aspects against non-Muslims, and women particularly.”

Hadian approached the question from a different angle, arguing that Muslim-dominated governments do away with religious freedom. “Where I became a Christian in America, I was able to leave Islam and follow Christ,” he explained. “If I was in a Muslim country, that is a death sentence under apostasy laws. … If they can’t get you for apostasy, they get you for blasphemy because you’ve dishonored Islam.”

“There is a very famous tradition where Muhammad is depicted as saying, ‘When you meet the unbelievers, invite them to accept Islam,'” Spencer concurred. “So far, that’s somewhat akin to the Lord saying, ‘Go and make disciples of all nations’ [Matthew 28:20]. And then it departs significantly. … Muhammad goes on to say, ‘and if they accept, then accept them as brothers in Islam. But if they refuse, then invite them to pay the jizya,’ which is the tax that the Quran specifies for the non-Muslims, particularly Jews and Christians. … ‘And if they refuse both, then seek Allah’s help and fight them.'”

Islam may begin with a non-threatening “invitation” to convert, but it will not take no for an answer.

Fundamentally Political Religion

This highlights a fundamental distinction between Christianity and Islam. Jesus says, “My kingdom is not of this world. If my kingdom were of this world, my servants would have been fighting” (John 18:26).

By contrast, “Islam is a political system cloaked in a religious garb,” as Perkins put it, “and it is profiting and benefiting from America’s religious freedom that we extend.” Or, as Spencer said, “Islam is not a religion of peace. In fact, Islam is the only religion that is considered to be one of the world’s great religions that has a developed doctrine, theology, and law mandating warfare against unbelievers and their subjugation.”

“There is no separation” between Islam the religion and Sharia the political system, Hadian insisted. “Islam is Sharia. Sharia is Islam.”

Sharia is not only a political system, it is one that Muslims believe applies to “every aspect of life, for non-Muslims as well as Muslims,” Spencer argued. “When we talk about allowing for Sharia in the United States, a lot of people assume that we’re talking about benign religious law. … Abdul El-Sayed recently compared it to the canon law of the Roman Catholic Church. Well, if you’re not a Roman Catholic, canon law … doesn’t pertain to you, and it will never bother you. But if you are a non-Muslim, Sharia does pertain to you. And that’s the problem.”

The Islamic political system is “antithetical to the Constitution” of the United States, and the rights recognized therein, Hadian added. For one thing, public calls to prayer or public prayer zones are a publicly-backed establishment of religion, in violation of the First Amendment. In a lesser example, the New York City Police Department is “going in mosques and recruiting for Muslim police officers,” he shared. “Can you imagine if we went into this church and a sheriff’s department came in … and said, ‘I’m here tonight to exclusively recruit a Christian police officer’? There’d be lawsuits before the night was up.”

Furthermore, “under Sharia there is no concept of the equality of rights of all people before the law,” Spencer added. “That does not exist. If you are a non-Muslim, you are denied basic rights that Muslims enjoy. And Muslims occupy a superior position in the society. If you are a woman, you also occupy an inferior position in society that involves a denial of basic rights.”

Bachmann said that Sharia law is “100% incompatible” with the Constitution “because Sharia is the Constitution for the Muslim.

The ‘Upper House’

“Islam operates in a duality,” Hadian explained. “When they don’t have power or control,” Muslims “claim plurality in religion. ‘We’re just a religion. We can operate like any other religion.'” This is the “lower house” or “House of War.”

The “upper house” or “House of the Surrendered Individual” is what happens when Islam becomes the dominant religion. “You submit to it in the upper house. There is no plurality. … When they take over, Islam has to be the final religion.

“Parts of America are in the ‘upper house.’ The Islamic call to prayer is the surest way to know they’ve already declared the upper house, because … they are broadcasting their supremacy,” Hadian warned. “What is that prayer? ‘There is no God but Allah, and that Muhammad is the prophet of Allah.’ So that is directly saying, ‘We’ve now subjugated you.'”

“They allowed the Islamic call of prayer in Paterson, N.J.; Dearborn Heights, Hamtramck, Minneapolis” he listed. “Where are the Christians that said, legally, this is unconstitutional?”

“They don’t need the entire country. … They’re so emboldened that they’re building their own Muslim-centric cities” like the EPIC project in Texas, Hadian continued. “Texas is fighting … but the problem was all of this was passed at the local level. They wooed the city council, the county commissioners. And they got all the zoning permits, everything. So they’re not even just talking about a mosque. ‘We want to build an entire city that is ours.'”

In Minneapolis, Bachmann chimed in, the city effectively invited the influx of Muslims through taxpayer handouts. “We have a huge Somali population in Minnesota,” she said. “They come in with their four wives. And the taxpayers of Minnesota buy an apartment for each of the different wives and a minivan for each of the wives. And so, we’re paying for the Islamic way of life.”

This has contributed to “a level of arrogance that I’ve never seen before in Minnesota,” she added. “Jaylani Hussein, who is the head of CAIR Minnesota, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Muslim Brotherhood front group … said, ‘We were shocked how easy this was,’ and, ‘this is a blueprint,'” Hadian lamented.

Urgency and Apathy

Another difference between Islam and Christianity makes the growth of Islam especially troubling. “In Islam … there is no guarantee of salvation, but one … if you are martyred,” said Hadian. “In the Hadith, which is supplemental to the Quran, they have seven blessings for the martyr. We focus on the sixth one, which is the 72 virgins. … The seventh one … says the shedding of the blood of the martyr — he intercedes for 70 of his relatives, meaning he becomes the superstar.”

“Now you understand jihadist mentality: when your son is martyred, your whole family goes to heaven,” Hadian summarized.

What a powerful incentive! What a cruel dogma. “In Islam, the false god of Islam says, ‘Die for me.’ In the Bible, the God of the Bible says, ‘I love you so much, I died for you,'” Hadian presented the contrast.

Yet, almost by its very structure, the U.S. government refuses to recognize the power of this teaching. In 2011, Robert Spencer was fired from teaching U.S. intelligence officers about jihadist terror after a group of Muslim organizations complained that he was “Islamophobic,” he explained. “Since then, even through one-and-a-half Trump administrations, there has been no mention of Islam. If you want to join the FBI, you’ll learn about terrorism. You’ll learn about right-wingers and white supremacists and so on. You will not learn anything about Islam or jihad.”

Bachmann said that members of Congress were equally blinded by censored training materials. During her time on the House Intelligence Committee, she shared, the FBI and CIA moved to remove 800 pages of briefing materials on Islamist terror. “I was the only member of Congress who read them,” she told the audience. “Every bit of it was removed, just as Robert said. It never went back.”

Now, the urgency of the question arises not only in conversations about national security, but also in those about national politics. “This fall, on the ballot is communism and the marriage with Sharia,” Bachmann declared. “You’re looking at two different forms of government. … It’s not freedom of speech. It is a complete revolution, a coup of our government, and an overthrow. … You have two totalitarian systems of government that want to take over America and get rid of the Constitution.”

Not that this alliance will end well for the communists, Hadian predicted. “The same thing happened in Iran. In Iran, the Marxists helped to overthrow the Shah and allow Khomeini to come in and take over Iran. In one year, Khomeini banned the Marxists, either killed them or kicked them out. All these foolish LGBTQ leftist feminists wear a hijab today. … The Iranian women are burning their hijabs because they’re saying, ‘We’re done.'”

The Church’s Response

Christians in America must think carefully and biblically about how to respond to surging political Islam in this country. “In Christianity, do we want to influence government? Absolutely. But we don’t mandate it. We don’t force people to become Christian. … No, we love them until they do,” said Perkins. “I want Christianity to be the dominant religion in our country. But I’m not doing it by the sword. It’s not by force, by power, by submission. It is by surrendering to the Lord Jesus Christ.”

Perkins also shared his ambition not to box out the Muslim world, but to bring it to saving faith in Christ. “We have to be able to battle … political Islam that wants to kill the freedom that all the world longs for, but at the same time, love the people that are doing that and share with them the freeing gospel of Jesus Christ,” he said.

The way to do this is through “boldness,” Hadian declared. “There is no mixing it. There’s no common ground. There’s no interfaith dialogue. There’s no ecumenism with Muslims, even in our missions.” Some missionaries try to contextualize the gospel,” he said. “No. Proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ. Islam is antithetical to the Jesus of the Bible. … There is one Lord, one Savior, one faith, one baptism, and we need to proclaim him to Muslims.”

“There is no reforming Islam. We need to stop wasting our time trying to reform it. The greatest reform for a Muslim is to become a Christian,” Hadian insisted. “When I became a Christian, if someone had taught me this conciliatory approach to Islam, I would have never become a Christian.”

Instead of finding common ground with Islam, Hadian recommended bold confrontation, and he offered his own personal testimony to underscore the point. From the age of four, he had dreams of a “man in white,” which prompted him to ask his parents “about death, salvation, heaven. They were giving me the Islamic answer — not a good answer — until I met some bold Christians. Praise God. God gets all the glory for that.”

Hadian also pointed to the growth of Christianity in Iran, which he called “the fastest growing church numerically in the world, under great persecution,” yet with up to five million souls in its number.

“Islam gives Muslims a kind of vaccine against Christianity, and they think they know all about it and they think they know why it’s all false,” Spencer explained. “The Quran denies the divinity of Christ, denies the Trinity, denies the crucifixion, denies the redemption. … And so Muslims, when you come to them and you tell them these things, they think, ‘Oh, the Quran has already told me all this is wrong.’ But the Quran also says that Jesus is the word of God and was born of a virgin. Muhammad was not those things. … The hadiths say that Jesus will return at the end of the world, not Muhammad.” Spencer recommended that Christians use the special status of Jesus, even in Islam to prompt Muslims to ask hard questions about their own beliefs.

Ultimately, the confrontation with Islam “is a spiritual battle,” Hadian counseled. “We can pass legislation until we’re blue in the face,” but it will avail nothing “if we, as the church of Jesus Christ, do not rise up and understand.”

The “one message the Iranian people would have … for America and the American church,” Hadian said, is this: “wake up and fight for your liberties.”
