God wants to Transform your Mind from Worldly to HEAVENLY

The phrase “transformed by the renewing of the mind” is found in Romans 12:2. Chapter 12 marks the transition in that epistle from the apostle Paul’s theological teaching to his practical teaching. The book of Romans is probably the closest thing in the Bible to a systematic theology. Paul did not found the church at Rome, but he had every intention of visiting that church on his way to Spain. As a result, Paul wrote this epistle as a way of introducing himself to that congregation and to give them an overview of the gospel and what it means in the lives of believers.
After teaching the great doctrine regarding the gospel of God’s righteousness that is ours through faith in Christ in Romans chapters 1—11, Paul begins to exhort us to godly living. How are we to live in light of the saving power of the gospel? That is what Romans 12—16 aims to teach. The practical section of Romans begins with a great “therefore.” Seeing all that God did on our behalf, therefore live like this. The first of Paul’s great exhortations is to be renewed in our minds:
“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect” (Romans 12:1–2, ESV).
The phrase “the mercies of God” refers to all of what has preceded in chapters 1—11. The exhortation that Paul presents is that since we have been the recipients of God’s great mercies, we are to be “living sacrifices” to God. How do we do this? We are living sacrifices to God by not conforming to this world, but by being transformed by the renewal of our minds.
This exhortation really serves as a summary statement of all that follows. A living sacrifice to God is one who does not conform, but is transformed. We are not to be conformed to this world. Paul is using the word world here to refer to the spirit of the age. In other words, world refers to the popular worldview that rejects God and His revelation. As unbelievers, we are naturally conformed to the world (Ephesians 2:1–3). As believers, we are no longer conformed to this world because we no longer belong to the spirit of this age. We have been translated from the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of God’s beloved Son (Colossians 1:13). Therefore, rather than continuing to conform to this world, we are to be transformed by having our minds renewed.
It is interesting to note that Paul says that we must be transformed by the renewing of our “minds.” The mind is the key to the Christian life. The reason why non-Christians do not respond to Christian truth is that they cannot discern spiritual truth (1 Corinthians 2:14). The gospel is a call for the unbeliever to repent of his sin and embrace Christ by faith. The Greek word translated “repentance” carries the notion of a change of mind. Our thinking must be changed (transformed) from old, ungodly ways of thinking into new, godly ways of thinking. What we know in our minds to be true forms a conviction in our hearts of that truth, and that conviction in our hearts translates into action. Therefore, we must first renew our minds.
The only way to replace the error of the world’s way of thinking is to replace it with God’s truth, and the only infallible source of God’s truth is His revealed Word, the Bible. Transformation through renewed minds comes as believers expose themselves to God’s Word through the faithful exposition of it each week in church, personal Bible study, and group Bible study. A solid church that believes in preaching the Word, reading the Word, and singing the Word is invaluable in helping us renew our minds.
There are no shortcuts. There is no magical formula for renewing our minds. We must fill our minds with God’s Word. As Jesus prayed to the Father, “Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17).
In the Bible transformation means “change or renewal from a life that no longer conforms to the ways of the world to one that pleases God” (Romans 12:2). This is accomplished by the renewing of our minds, an inward spiritual transformation that will manifest itself in outward actions. The Bible presents the transformed life in Christ as demonstrated through our “bearing fruit in every good work [and] growing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:10). Transformation involves those who were once far from God being “drawn near” to Him through the blood of Christ (Ephesians 2:13).
Moreover, evidence of transformation within us is seen in the way we increasingly reflect the likeness and glory of Christ (2 Corinthians 3:18). For as the apostle Paul said, “You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ” (Romans 8:9). To be considered as children of God, we must be led by the Spirit of God. And it is through the power of God’s Spirit that Christ lives within us. The transformed life mirrors the attitude of the apostle Paul: “I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20).
This power of transformation comes from one source. Paul said, “For the message of the cross [the gospel] is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God” (1 Corinthians 1:18). In speaking of Jesus, the apostle Peter, empowered by the Holy Spirit, boldly declared this truth: “Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).
Transformed lives begin with the gospel message of Christ, for in it is the power of God. It is the gospel that brings us salvation: “I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: ‘The righteous will live by faith’” (Romans 1:16-17).
Through the gospel message of Christ, we learn “to put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24). “For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God” (Romans 8:13-14).
Just before he died, the apostle Peter provided us specific instructions on how we are to live out our transformed lives: “His divine power has given us everything we need for life and godliness … for if you do these things, you will never fall, and you will receive a rich welcome into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 1:3-11).
In a challenging teaching on holy living (Ephesians 4:17—5:21), the apostle Paul emphasized the importance of the believer’s mental outlook. He reminded the Ephesian Christians what they had learned in their relationship with Christ: “To put off your old self, which belongs to your former manner of life and is corrupt through deceitful desires, and to be renewed in the spirit of your minds, and to put on the new self, created after the likeness of God in true righteousness and holiness“ (Ephesians 4:22–24, ESV).
The phrase be renewed is derived from the Greek verb (ananeousthai) meaning “to be or become reestablished in a new and often improved manner.” By entering a relationship with Jesus, the believer is reestablished in an improved standing as a “new creation” in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17). At the same time, Christians are daily, continually being renewed by the indwelling Spirit of God: “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day” (2 Corinthians 4:16).
“The spirit of your mind” refers to the believer’s thoughts and attitudes. In the New Living Translation, Ephesians 4:23 says, “Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.” The mind is the arena where the Holy Spirit constantly works on renewal. Paul urged the Romans, “Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will” (Romans 12:2).
Spending time daily in fellowship with Jesus Christ is vital to being renewed in the spirit of our minds. We are renewed in our internal nature as we “learn to know [our] Creator and become like him” (Colossians 3:10, NLT). In fact, this is the believer’s destiny: “For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters” (Romans 8:29, NLT; see also John 13:15; Philippians 2:5).
The more we know Jesus, who reflects the very nature of God (Philippians 2:6), the better we can see and understand the heavenly Father (see Colossians 1:15). “The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word” (Hebrews 1:3). As we follow in Christ’s footsteps and arm ourselves with the same attitude He had, our lives become a pleasing “sacrifice to God” (Ephesians 5:21; 1 Peter 2:21; 1 Peter 4:1).
God’s Word is essential to being renewed in the spirit of our minds. Jesus prayed to the Father for all believers, “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth” (John 17:17, NLT). As we develop in our understanding of the truth in Scripture, our minds are renewed and transformed by God’s Spirit, and our lives reflect that change.
“Physically, you are what you eat, but spiritually, you are what you think,” writes Warren Wiersbe in The Bible Exposition Commentary (Vol. 2, Victor Books, 1996, p. 40). As we meditate on God’s Word “day and night” and “delight in the law of the Lord,” we become firmly reestablished “like trees planted along the riverbank, bearing fruit each season. Their leaves never wither, and they prosper in all they do” (Psalm 1:1–3, NLT).
Prayer is also necessary to be renewed in the spirit of our minds. Paul prayed for the Colossians to be filled “with the knowledge of [God’s] will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God” (Colossians 1:9–10). After David confessed his sins of adultery with Bathsheba and the murder of Uriah, he prayed, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me” (Psalm 51:10, ESV).
As you seek the Lord in relationship with Jesus, in the truth of His Word and in prayer, you are renewed in the spirit of your mind: “Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:7, NLT). Renewal brings a new mindset of trust, peace, and humble obedience (Isaiah 26:3; Romans 8:5; Philippians 4:8–9; Colossians 3:1–2).

Tea Time Manna
I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.
—Psalm 40:8
Too many of us are paranoid about the word “law” and find it hard to hear a scripture like today’s verse. However, we must recognize that the goal of the New Covenant of grace and the gift of the Spirit is that God’s law is written on our hearts (Hebrews 8:10, 10:16) and demonstrated in our lives (Romans 8:3-4). God is not concerned with the law being written on tablets of stone. He wants us to know his will in our hearts and live it out in our daily lives. Jeremiah prophesied of this day coming, a time when God’s people desire to do God’s will from the heart, with a passion to love what our Father loves and despise what he despises (Jeremiah 31:33). Having been saved by our faith in Jesus based on God’s grace and filled with the Holy Spirit, we can now say with confidence:
I desire to do your will, O my God; your law is within my heart.
Prayer
Abba Father, I long to do your will. I desire to please you, glorify you, and lead others to you. Please give me spiritual discernment to know your will, and spiritual courage to do it each day. I yearn for your character and righteousness to inform my heart when Satan tempts me not to live for you. Gently humble me when I am wrong, have lost my way, or ignore the Holy Spirit’s influence in my heart. Awaken me, dear Father, to your law written in my heart, and unleash the power of the Holy Spirit to animate my life to live your will more completely. In the mighty name of Jesus, my Savior, I pray. Amen and Amen

Black Friday: The Alter of Black Horse Capitalism, Greed, and the Biblical Warning
The phenomenon of Black Fridays has evolved from a single day of post-Thanksgiving shopping into a global spectacle of consumerism. While market analysts celebrate it as a triumph of retail strategy, a deeper cultural and spiritual critique reveals it as the ultimate product of “Black Horse Capitalism”—a system driven by greed, the insatiable love of money, and a structural disregard for spiritual well-being. From a theological perspective, the chaotic scenes of shoppers rushing store shelves serve as a modern reflection of ancient warnings found throughout the Bible .
The Symbolism of Black Horse Capitalism
In biblical prophecy, specifically within the Book of Revelation, the Black Horse represents scarcity, economic inequality, and hyper-inflation. Revelation 6:5-6 describes the rider of the black horse holding a pair of scales, where basic necessities like wheat and barley cost an entire day’s wages, while luxury items like oil and wine remain untouched.
When applied to modern economics, Black Horse Capitalism refers to a system that manipulates perception:
- Manufactured Scarcity: Retailers use “limited-time offers” and “doorbusters” to create an artificial panic, forcing consumers to act on impulse rather than need.
- Economic Imbalance: While corporations maximize quarterly profits, everyday consumers are nudged further into credit card debt, chasing a material high that promises satisfaction but delivers a deficit.
The Mechanics of Greed and the Love of Money
At its core, Black Friday feeds on greed—both corporate and individual. The frantic rush to secure the best deals exposes a societal infection: the belief that a person’s worth is tied to the abundance of their possessions.
The Bible explicitly diagnoses this condition as a spiritual trap:
- The Root of All Evil: 1 Timothy 6:10 warns that “the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.” On Black Friday, this love manifests as aggressive behavior, trampling incidents, and an obsession with material accumulation.
- The Illusion of More: Ecclesiastes 5:10 reminds us that “whoever loves money never has enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with their income.” Black Friday capitalizes on this cycle of permanent dissatisfaction, convincing buyers that the next purchase will finally bring fulfillment.
Biblical Warnings against Materialism
The consumer culture epitomised by modern shopping holidays stands in direct opposition to the teachings of Jesus Christ and the prophets. The scriptures offer stark warnings for a society built on retail worship:
- The Trap of Covetousness: Luke 12:15 commands, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.”
- The Danger of Idolatry: Colossians 3:5 equates greed directly with idolatry. When shopping becomes a ritual that takes precedence over gratitude, community, and spiritual reflection, the marketplace replaces the Creator.
- The Call to Contentment: Hebrews 13:5 urges believers to “keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have.” Black Friday is systematically engineered to destroy contentment, replacing peace with an artificial urgency to consume.
Conclusion: From Consumption to Contentment Black Friday is more than a commercial event; it is a cultural mirror. It exposes how effectively Black Horse Capitalism weaponizes human desires, transforming the pursuit of stewardship into the worship of mammon. By stepping back from the frenzy and reflecting on biblical wisdom, individuals can break free from the cycle of greed. True wealth is not found in the bargains of a chaotic marketplace, but in the enduring peace of spiritual contentment and generosity.

Large Banks Debanked, Discriminated Against Customers For Christian Views

Nine of the nation’s largest banks relied on subjective decision-making and the opinions of advocacy organizations to terminate customer accounts or deny service to potential customers—often because of Biblical beliefs on key moral issues—between 2020 and September 2025.
The findings, released Wednesday, were part of a report from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), the bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury that charters, regulates, and supervises banks and federal savings associations.
‘Irrefutable Evidence’
“Today’s report provides irrefutable evidence that the nation’s largest banks have denied, debanked and discriminated against customers and lawful businesses,” said Comptroller of the Currency Jonathan V. Gould. “Americans should have access to financial services regardless of their beliefs, affiliations or political views. Fair access to financial services is not a mantra—it is a mandate.”
The OCC says it reviewed nearly 100,000 complaints, hundreds of bank decisions and about 420,000 pages of bank documents in its Debanking Review.
Franklin Graham’s 2023 Warning
In 2023, during the period reviewed by the OCC, Franklin Graham delivered the keynote address at the National Religious Broadcasters convention. He warned those in attendance, “We are living in a cancel culture that wants to destroy Christian organizations. They want us to shut our mouths. They don’t want to hear from us. Now, if you don’t preach the Gospel, you don’t have anything to worry about. If you’re not going to talk about sin, you don’t have anything to worry about. But if you’re going to try to preach and proclaim the Gospel, they’re going to try to shut you up.”
Key Findings
The report highlights a number of key findings the OCC found in its review. Among them:
The banks largely lacked clear and measurable standards and objective, risk-based criteria for assessing the reputational risks of customer relationships. The report added: “The banks also relied on various sources to inform these decisions, including the results of negative news searches and non-traditional sources, such as the opinions of advocacy organizations.”
The way the banks implemented ambiguous “reputation risk” policies disadvantaged Americans holding certain political, religious and social views.
Mere allegations, negative press or negative reviews contributed to some banks declining to serve average Americans, even in the absence of any validation of the underlying facts or concerns.
The passage of “fair access” laws in several states seems to have led many banks to revise the policies that had led to their unjustly debanking customers, but the report adds with the change of each administration or Congress, “a return to prioritizing public perception could easily result in backsliding.”
Dubious Sources
Reputational risk appears to have been a core concern in the debanking of certain customers. The review found that bank policies reflected concern for negative news, social media or attention from advocacy groups. The report includes several examples of banks basing decisions, at least in part, on information from the Southern Poverty Law Center, which has repeatedly labeled Christian organizations as “hate groups” because of the Biblical views of those organizations.
The report includes several examples of customers whose accounts were closed or were otherwise denied financial services because of perceived reputational risks.
PNC Bank declined to issue a line of credit to a media company. “Bank employees cited a speech made by one owner, ‘a conservative political commentator,’ and noted that another owner’s foundation ‘has funded several Christian conservative groups, including several identified as hate groups by the Southern Poverty Law Center.’ One bank employee stated, ‘I think it becomes really difficult to justify aligning ourselves with a company whose owners have built very public personas around opinions very contrary to PNC’s beliefs/values.’”
In June 2021, JPMorgan subsidiary WePay closed the account of a customer that employees characterized in the bank’s internal tracking system as a “[r]ight wing religious conservative nonprofit with strong anti LGBTQ rhetoric.”
Wells Fargo influenced one of its independent sales organization customers to close the merchant account of a religious nonprofit, providing the sales organization with information from a third-party website highlighting the nonprofit’s views on same-sex marriage. The sales organization terminated the nonprofit’s account.
Executive Order
The OCC launched its review in response to an executive order from President Donald Trump in August 2025.
The executive order stated: “Financial institutions have engaged in unacceptable practices to restrict law-abiding individuals’ and businesses’ access to financial services on the basis of political or religious beliefs or lawful business activities.” The order added that as a result, “individuals, their businesses, and their families have been subjected to debanking on the basis of their political affiliations, religious beliefs or lawful business activities, and have suffered frozen payrolls, debt and crushing interest, and other significant harms to their livelihoods, reputations and financial well-being.”
The banks included in the review were JPMorgan Chase Bank, Bank of America, Citibank, Wells Fargo Bank, U.S. Bank, Capital One, PNC Bank, TD Bank, and BMO Bank.
Syria Is Rebuilding An Army: Conflict With Israel Is Only A Matter Of Time

Ahmed al-Sharaa inherited a country in ruins. War halved the size of Syria’s economy and left nine people out of ten below the poverty line. According to serious Israeli sources, the priority in Damascus has little to do with reconstruction.
Al-Sharaa, it appears, is directing most of the state’s resources, foreign aid included, toward a large standing army and new weapons systems, while concealing the scale of the effort. His forces are not yet rated as capable, but they have held brigade-level exercises, are being organized into brigades with divisions to follow, and are seeking air defenses able to restrict the Israeli Air Force. This is the army Israel gutted in December 2024, when 480 strikes in two days destroyed an estimated 80 percent of Assad’s strategic arsenal. It is being rebuilt with money meant to rebuild the country.
Al-Sharaa has spent two years trying to persuade the world that he is no longer Abu Mohammad al-Jolani. He joined al-Qaeda in Iraq after America’s 2003 invasion, spent five years in the American prison at Camp Bucca, and returned to Syria in 2011 to found the Nusra Front. The United States designated him a global terrorist in May 2013, and put a $10 million bounty on him, which was lifted only in December 2024.
He broke with al-Qaeda in 2016 and recast himself as a nationalist. After Damascus fell on December 8, 2024, the Military fatigues gave way to suits. In May 2025, President Donald Trump met him in Riyadh the day after announcing the lifting of sanctions, and in November he became the first Syrian president ever received at the White House, where Syria joined the coalition against the Islamic State.
The gamble had a rationale: isolation threatened to turn a wrecked state into another permanent failure. Saudi Arabia and Turkey lobbied for lifting sanctions, and Europe saw a path to stabilizing the country and sending Syrian refugees home. In May 2025, the European Union lifted its economic sanctions. In December 2025, the US Congress repealed the Caesar Act, and on August 24, 2026, Washington removed Syria from its list of state sponsors of terrorism, a designation it had carried since 1979. Germany, which reopened its Damascus embassy in March 2025 and hosted al-Sharaa in Berlin a year later, now leads the European aid effort.
Western governments and al-Sharaa do not attach the same meaning to the word “stability.” Europe needs a Syria calm enough to justify sending back refugees. Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates want Damascus locked out of Iran’s orbit, and Washington wants a partner against the Islamic State. Al-Sharaa needs all of them, and Israeli assessments hold that he is using them for something larger: restoring Syria as a regional military power.
His planning is apparently aimed at the moment, once his buildup is complete and the American presence in Iraq has thinned, when he can strike Hezbollah in Lebanon and the pro-Iranian militias in Iraq. Those targets are Israel’s enemies too, but that does not make the army taking shape in Damascus an Israeli asset. As one security official put it:
“Ahmed al-Sharaa wants to build Syria under his leadership into a regional power that will look in every direction. The moment he decides to, he will also direct military force against Israel.”
Middle Eastern alignments rarely outlive the enemy that produced them. Al-Sharaa’s hostility toward Iran and Hezbollah follows from his own history: Iran and its militias spent years fighting the insurgency that carried him to power. None of that says what a stronger Syrian state will do in ten years.
In September 2025, al-Sharaa told reporters that a security deal with Israel, modeled on the 1974 disengagement agreement, was a “necessity.”
A year after he declared this supposed “necessity,” al-Sharaa announced at the UN that the Golan Heights “will remain Syrian” – possibly so that Syrians will once again be able to shoot down at Israeli farmers on the plain below. Al-Sharaa added the complaint that “Israel is launching attacks against Syria. There have been 500 air strikes, more than 1,200 incursions, and 300 detentions. This is at odds with the orientation we’re seeing at global level.”
Al-Sharaa, however, forgot to mention why. Ever since al-Sharaa overthrew the Assad regime, Christians ,Druze, Alawites and other minorities have been victims of attacks that are reportedly “genocidal” – all while al-Sharaa’s plan for the radical Islamization of Syria surges ahead.
The Trump administration’s removal of Syria from the list of state sponsors of terrorism seems to have been based on wishes rather than any kind of facts on the ground. Perhaps the administration still hopes — although, after its run-in with Iran, it really should have learned better — that rewarding good behavior before it takes place will somehow magically cause it to spring into being simply does not work. Gifts in good faith, especially to supposedly former terrorists, can simply get pocketed in expectation of the next ones.
Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz immediately replied to al-Sharaa, “The Golan under Israeli sovereignty is an integral part of the State of Israel forever.”
At this point, al-Sharaa’s demand is tantamount to expecting the United States to return its southwest to Mexico.
Israel, evidently motivated by survival, treats its northern frontier as a question of capabilities rather than of declared intentions: the red lines it carried into the American-mediated talks that resumed in August after a six-month freeze include: a demilitarized Syrian Golan, no Turkish Military activity in Syria and no strategic weapons systems in Syrian hands.
Al-Sharaa has not simply exchanged one patron for another. Turkey made his rise possible and, under an August 2025 training agreement, is to supply weapons systems to the new army, yet Israeli officials do not expect him to hand Syrian bases to Recep Tayyip Erdogan, even if that is what Erdogan expects. When Israel bombed the Abu al-Duhur air base on August 18 to forestall a Turkish deployment, the American envoy called the strike an “unnecessary escalation,” while Israeli sources judged that it had spared al-Sharaa a choice he preferred not to make.
Russia has not left either. In August, Russia and Syria agreed to convert Russia’s military bases in Syria, Tartus and Hmeimim, into joint training centers with Russian forces remaining, and in September a Russian convoy docked at Tartus for the first resupply under the deal.
Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have their own reasons for courting al-Sharaa. Assad’s fall shattered the corridor Iran spent decades building through Iraq, Syria and Lebanon. Gulf money can make the loss permanent. Saudi Arabia and Qatar paid off Syria’s World Bank arrears in April 2025; a Saudi delegation signed $6.4 billion in agreements that July, and DP World took a 30-year, $800 million concession on the port of Tartus. The wager is that investment and honors will pull al-Sharaa toward moderation. It may pay off, but its beneficiary, al-Sharaa, is using part of the proceeds to build an armed power of his own.
Israel now faces a problem less simple than Assad, who was hostile but familiar and dependent on Iran and Russia.
Israeli security sources concede that a chance to lock in border arrangements was missed when al-Sharaa was weak and newly installed, and now assess that a confrontation is a matter of time.
The communication cell agreed in Paris in January still exists. Mossad chief Roman Gofman met with Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani in Amman in August. The Israeli defense establishment is intensifying intelligence collection on Syrian forces and preparing for a broad operation should the buildup threaten Israel’s freedom of action.
A channel to Damascus has bought Washington influence that isolation never could, but it should not buy amnesia: al-Sharaa’s past is documented, his diplomacy is real, and the army now taking shape belongs to the same man.
Whether Ahmed al-Sharaa has changed since the world knew him as al-Jolani will occupy biographers. Israel’s planners have stopped asking. They are counting his brigades.
