The 25th of December is not the Real Birth Day of Jesus
Christmas is not the Birthday of Jesus , It started as a Saint Nicholas Day – The Truth about XMAS – Throughout history, many legends about Saint Nicholas have circulated around the world, bringing us the character we know today as Santa Claus. But who was the man behind the fictional character of Santa Claus?
Nicholas was born in the third century in the Roman Empire’s province of Lycia in modern Turkiye (Turkey). According to tradition, he was a man full of generosity and conviction. He was born to wealthy parents who left him their fortune when they died. Instead of squandering his inheritance on himself, he used it to help those in need. He even exposed a corrupt government official who hoarded grain to push its price higher.
While many have preserved stories of Nicholas’ righteous acts, few know of his sufferings for Christ.
Sometime after the Roman emperor Diocletian took power in A.D. 284, he instigated a horrific persecution of Christians. Nicholas was imprisoned for refusing to deny Jesus as God. According to Eusebius’ Church History, an edict ordered all church leaders arrested. Prisons were so full of Christians that there was no room for actual criminals. Diocletian destroyed churches and burned Scriptures, and the killing of Christians became a form of entertainment for the Romans.
Diocletian aimed to finish off the church for good, but the courage of believers martyred for their witness had caused many others to place their faith in Christ. Having failed, Diocletian abdicated the throne in A.D. 305. According to one source, he returned home to be a cabbage farmer.
Nicholas was released from prison and is believed to have died around A.D. 343, on December 6, a date that is celebrated today as “Saint Nicholas Day” in nations such as Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands.

What is the real date of the Birth of Jesus?
History convincingly shows that December 25 was popularized as the date for Christmas, not because Christ was born on that day but because it was already popular in pagan religious celebrations as the birthday of the sun.
The biblical accounts point to the fall of the year as the most likely time of Jesus’ birth.
But is it possible that December 25 could be the day of Christ’s birth?
“Lacking any scriptural pointers to Jesus’s birthday, early Christian teachers suggested dates all over the calendar. Clement… picked November 18. Hippolytus … figured Christ must have been born on a Wednesday … An anonymous document[,] believed to have been written in North Africa around A.D. 243, placed Jesus’s birth on March 28” (Jeffery Sheler, U.S. News & World Report, “In Search of Christmas,” Dec. 23, 1996, p. 58).
A careful analysis of Scripture, however, clearly indicates that December 25 is an unlikely date for Christ’s birth. Here are two primary reasons:
- We know that shepherds were in the fields watching their flocks at the time of Jesus’ birth (Luke 2:7-8).
Shepherds were not in the fields during December. According to Celebrations: The Complete Book of American Holidays, Luke’s account “suggests that Jesus may have been born in summer or early fall. Since December is cold and rainy in Judea, it is likely the shepherds would have sought shelter for their flocks at night” (p. 309).
Similarly, The Interpreter’s One-Volume Commentary says this passage argues “against the birth [of Christ] occurring on Dec. 25 since the weather would not have permitted” shepherds watching over their flocks in the fields at night. - Jesus’ parents came to Bethlehem to register in a Roman census (Luke 2:1-4).
Such censuses were not taken in winter, when temperatures often dropped below freezing and roads were in poor condition. Taking a census under such conditions would have been self-defeating.
Given the difficulties and the desire to bring pagans into Christianity, “the important fact then … to get clearly into your head is that the fixing of the date as December 25th was a compromise with paganism” (William Walsh, The Story of Santa Klaus, 1970, p. 62).
Did Jesus Christ birth occur on December 25th? Can we even know when Christ was born? Should we really be celebrating His birth?
If Jesus Christ wasn’t born on December 25, does the Bible indicate when He was born?
The biblical accounts point to the fall of the year as the most likely time of Jesus’ birth, based on the conception and birth of John the Baptist.
Since Elizabeth (John’s mother) was in her sixth month of pregnancy when Jesus was conceived (Luke 1:24-36), we can determine the approximate time of year Jesus was born if we know when John was born. John’s father, Zacharias, was a priest serving in the Jerusalem temple during the course of Abijah (Luke 1:5). Historical calculations indicate this course of service corresponded to June 13-19 in that year ( The Companion Bible, 1974, Appendix 179, p. 200).
It was during this time of temple service that Zacharias learned that he and his wife Elizabeth would have a child (Luke 1:8-13). After he completed his service and traveled home, Elizabeth conceived (Luke 1:23-24). Assuming John’s conception took place near the end of June, adding nine months brings us to the end of March as the most likely time for John’s birth. Adding another six months (the difference in ages between John and Jesus) brings us to the end of September as the likely time of Jesus’ birth. WHAT HAPPENED ON THIS DAY IN 2025 ? The 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 80) will open on September 9, 2025, with the General Debate commencing on September 23, 2025, at the UN Headquarters in New York. This annual event serves as a key forum for all 193 member states to discuss global issues and develop international policies.
The doctrine of the virgin birth teaches that Jesus Christ was born of a virgin. That is, when Mary conceived Jesus, she had never had sexual intercourse. Jesus’ birth, therefore, was truly miraculous. The virgin birth of Jesus is a crucially important doctrine and one that the Bible plainly teaches in Matthew 1:23 and Luke 1:27, 34.
Let’s look at how Scripture describes the virgin birth. The angel Gabriel visits the Virgin Mary to bring her the news that she would be the mother of the Messiah. Mary asks, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” (Luke 1:34, ESV). Gabriel’s reply indicates the miraculous nature of the conception: “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you. So the holy one to be born will be called the Son of God” (Luke 1:35). The angel points not to any human act but to the Holy Spirit and the power of God as the agency of Jesus’ birth. Jesus would properly be called the Son of God.
Gabriel later repeats the news to Joseph, betrothed to be married to Mary: “What is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:20). Joseph needed this information because, “before they came together, [Mary] was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 1:18). Accepting God’s word on the matter, Joseph proceeded to take Mary as his wife, but she remained a virgin until after Jesus was born: “He did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son” (Matthew 1:25).
The gospel writers are judicious in their wording to maintain the doctrine of the virgin birth. In his genealogy of Jesus, Luke mentions that Jesus was “the son (as was supposed) of Joseph” (Luke 3:23, ESV). In his genealogy, Matthew carefully avoids calling Joseph the father of Jesus; rather, he speaks of “Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, and Mary was the mother of Jesus who is called the Messiah” (Matthew 1:16).
The virgin birth of Jesus Christ was predicted in the Old Testament: “The Lord himself will give you a sign: The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel” (Isaiah 7:14, quoted in Matthew 1:22). There is also a possible allusion to the virgin birth in Genesis 3:15, which says that the “seed” of “the woman” would destroy the serpent.
The Bible teaches the preexistence of the eternal Son of God. In Isaiah 9:6, the child who is “born” is also the son who is “given.” In like manner, Galatians 4:4 also teaches the preexistence and virgin birth of Christ: “God sent His Son, born of a woman.” The virgin birth is important because that was the means by which “the Word became flesh” (John 1:14). The incarnation is when the eternal Son of God took on human flesh; without losing any of His divine nature, He added a human nature. That miraculous, history-changing event took place in the Virgin Mary’s womb.
In the virgin birth, the immaterial (the Spirit) and the material (Mary’s womb) were both involved. Just as, at creation, “the earth was formless and empty” and dark (Genesis 1:2), Mary’s womb was an empty, barren place. And just as, at creation, “the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters” (Genesis 1:2), the Spirit of God came upon Mary (Luke 1:35). Only God can make something out of nothing; only God could perform the miracles of creation, the incarnation, and the virgin birth.
The virgin birth is important in that it preserves the truth that Jesus is fully God and fully man at the same time. His physical body He received from Mary as her biological child. But His eternal, holy nature was His from all eternity past (see John 6:69). Jesus had no sin nature (Hebrews 7:26) and therefore was able to be our perfect substitute (1 Peter 1:19), conquering sin and death once for all (Hebrews 10:10). Not only was He able to take away our sin, but He was tempted in every way that we are, yet without sin. Therefore, He is our perfect sacrifice and also able to empathize with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15). Our God miraculously became man to save us and graciously reveal His love for us.
The virgin birth of Jesus is an example of God’s gracious work on our behalf. God took the initiative—Mary was not looking to become pregnant—it was all God’s idea. Joseph had no role in the conception—his body was not involved—so the power had to come from God. In a similar way, our salvation is based solely on God’s initiative and God’s power—we did not seek God, but He sought us; and we did nothing to earn our salvation, but we rely on God’s power.
Unsurprisingly, Jesus’ enemies among His contemporaries denied His virgin birth. They went so far as to publicly accuse Jesus of being a Samaritan, i.e., a person of mixed race (John 8:48). Those today who would deny the virgin birth contradict the clear teaching of Scripture, call into question other miracles recorded in the Bible, and open the door to a denial of Christ’s full deity or His full humanity.

I have a friend in Jesus who has taught me the power of sharing a spiritual blessing with others. We share a conviction: Many times in life, ministry, and trial, people need way “more than my words”! Oh, for sure, they do need to hear from me. But my words are earthbound and relatively unproven. The Scriptures, however, are full of proven, inspired, and powerful blessings and prayers. They are way “more than my words”! Which brings us to today’s verse. I can’t think of a better blessing that is way “more than my words” than this short blessing from the apostle Paul: grace, love, and fellowship, all rooted in the eternal, sacrificial, and gracious nature of our God, are captured in this one short and amazing blessing!
May the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
And we share these blessings with God’s children from all around the world, so let’s remind each other how blessed we are by sharing this grace-filled blessing with those who might need it.
Prayer
Father, I am thinking of several precious friends who need this blessing to fall richly upon them. Please bless them graciously, fully, overflowingly. Please be real to them as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. May they experience Jesus’ grace, the Father’s love, and the fellowship of other believers through the Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name, I ask for this grace. Amen and Amen

Superiors General are elected by the General Congregation of the Society, summoned upon the resignation, retirement or death of an incumbent. Superiors General are elected for life and almost all have served life terms, the exceptions being Father Pedro Arrupe (resigned for reasons of failing health) and his successor, Father Peter Hans Kolvenbach.
Kolvenbach’s resignation was announced in February 2006, which led to the convocation of the 35th General Congregation. That General Congregation elected the current Superior General of the Society, Father Adolfo Nicolás, who succeeded Kolvenbach.

When they could not tell the king his dream, Nebuchadnezzar was so angry that he ordered the killing of all the wise men in the kingdom. When Daniel heard about the king’s dream and his order to destroy all the wise men in his realm, he requested time from Arioch, the king’s captain, promising to tell the king his dream. Daniel and the three Hebrew children prayed and fasted, asking God to reveal the king’s dream. That night, God showed Daniel in a dream what Nebuchadnezzar had dreamed and its meaning.
The next day Daniel was ushered into the presence of the king. Daniel told the king, that he could not know nor interpret the dream himself. However, he served a God who reveals the secrets of men’s hearts, and He could reveal his dream. Then Daniel proceeded to tell the king what God had showed him.

The Israel Fault Line: Dividing Christians And Jews From Within
For many pro-Israel Christians, the numbers are difficult to understand.
A new national survey of Jewish voters finds that 67% plan to vote for Democratic congressional candidates in November, compared with just 26% who plan to vote Republican. At the same time, 71% say they remain emotionally attached to Israel and an overwhelming 89% say they are concerned about antisemitism in the United States.
How can those numbers exist together?
Especially when Israel has become one of the Democratic Party’s most contentious internal issues.
In July, 103 House Democrats voted for an amendment that would have cut off $3.3 billion in annual U.S. security assistance to Israel. Democratic leader Hakeem Jeffries opposed the measure, demonstrating that the party remains divided, but the vote represented a dramatic change from 2016, when the House backed the U.S.-Israel security assistance agreement 405-4.
For evangelical Christians accustomed to thinking of Israel as a defining biblical and political issue, continued Jewish support for Democrats can appear almost inexplicable.
But there is something important Christians need to understand.
There isn’t one Jewish America anymore—if there ever was.
There are increasingly two very different Jewish worlds living under the same identity.
Same Ancestry. Very Different Worldviews.
“Jewish” can describe religion, ethnicity, ancestry, culture and peoplehood. It does not automatically tell you what someone believes about God, Scripture, Israel—or politics.
That distinction becomes startling when you examine the numbers.
Pew Research found that 75% of Orthodox Jews identified with or leaned toward the Republican Party. Among American Jews overall, however, roughly seven in ten identified with or leaned Democratic.
The divide goes considerably deeper than party registration.
Ask whether God gave the land of Israel to the Jewish people and the two Jewish Americas become even clearer.
Among Orthodox Jews, 87% told Pew they believe God gave the land that is now Israel to the Jewish people.
Among Conservative Jews, that dropped to 46%.
Among Reform Jews, only about one-quarter agreed.
Among Jews who don’t affiliate with any branch of Judaism, the figure was approximately one in five.
Those aren’t simply different political opinions.
They represent fundamentally different ways of understanding Jewish identity itself.
An Orthodox Jew may see Israel through thousands of years of Scripture, covenant, exile, persecution and promised return.
A secular American Jew may care passionately about Jewish survival and antisemitism while understanding Jewishness primarily through ancestry, culture, family history, the Holocaust and shared ethnic identity.
Both call themselves Jewish.
But they may be looking at Israel through entirely different lenses.
Israel Matters—But Other Things Matter More
That helps explain the apparent contradiction in the latest polling.
The new Jewish Voters Resource Center survey found 71% emotionally attached to Israel. Yet when voters were asked to name their two highest political priorities, affordability registered 37%, the future of democracy 36%, antisemitism 25%, healthcare 18% and Israel 16%.
In other words, attachment to Israel does not necessarily translate into voting primarily on Israel.
The same poll found 75% disapproved of President Donald Trump’s performance, while 65% disapproved of the Israeli government’s policies regarding Gaza and the West Bank and 67% viewed Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu unfavorably.
A Jewish voter can therefore worry deeply about antisemitism, feel emotionally connected to Israel, dislike Netanyahu, oppose Israeli government policies and vote Democratic without seeing those positions as contradictory.
For many evangelical Christians, Israel may actually occupy a more explicitly theological place in their political worldview than it does for many secular American Jews.
That may sound extraordinary.
But the polling has pointed in that direction for years.
Pew found that 67% of Jews by religion expressed at least some emotional attachment to Israel, compared with just 33% of Jews of no religion. Orthodox Jews demonstrated particularly strong attachment.
October 7 Exposed What Was Already There
The Hamas massacre of October 7, 2023, and the war that followed did not create these divisions. They exposed and intensified them.
In 2024, Pew found that 85% of Jewish Republicans viewed the Israeli government favorably.
Among Jewish Democrats, it was only 41%.
Age mattered too. Only 45% of Jews under 35 viewed the Israeli government favorably, compared with 64% among Jews ages 50 to 64.
More recent polling continues to find significant divisions between religious and secular Jews over Israel and Gaza.
That means the battle over Israel is increasingly occurring inside the Jewish community itself.
One Jewish American looks at Israel and sees the miraculous survival of an ancient people returned to their ancestral homeland after centuries of exile.
Another looks at Israel primarily through modern political categories involving nationalism, Palestinians, human rights and military power.
One begins with Abraham.
Another begins with Gaza.
Those starting points inevitably produce very different conclusions.
And Christians Should Recognize This
Before Christians shake their heads too vigorously at Jewish America, however, we should look inside our own churches.
Because Christianity is experiencing a remarkably similar fracture.
Two Americans can both identify themselves as Christian while holding almost opposite beliefs about what Christianity actually teaches.
One believes Scripture is authoritative.
Another believes Scripture must continually be reinterpreted through contemporary cultural values.
One believes Jesus Christ is the only way of salvation.
Another considers such exclusivity intolerant.
One believes biblical sexual morality remains binding.
Another celebrates same-sex marriage and transgender ideology.
One sees modern Israel through the biblical story of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob and the prophetic promises concerning the Jewish people.
Another sees Israel primarily through the political framework of colonialism, oppression and social justice.
Both may still check the box marked “Christian.”
Just as two people may check the box marked “Jewish.”
The label remains.
The worldview underneath it has changed.
Israel Is Becoming A Revealing Fault Line
This is why Israel has become such a revealing issue for both communities.
It forces questions that go far beyond Benjamin Netanyahu, Gaza or American foreign aid.
Does the Bible describe an enduring covenant with the Jewish people?
Does the Jewish people’s ancient connection to the land carry meaning today?
How should biblical promises be understood?
Does Scripture shape our understanding of modern events—or do modern political ideologies determine how Scripture itself is interpreted?
Jewish Americans increasingly answer those questions very differently.
So do Christians.
And perhaps that is the larger story behind those surprising election numbers.
America isn’t simply dividing between Jew and Gentile, Christian and secularist, Democrat and Republican.
The fault lines increasingly run straight through religious communities themselves.
There is an Orthodox Jewish world and a secular Jewish world that may share ancestry while possessing radically different understandings of God, Israel and Jewish identity.
There is also a biblical Christian world and a progressive Christian world increasingly divided over Scripture, salvation, morality and Israel.
The names have remained the same.
The beliefs underneath them have not.
And few issues expose that divide quite as clearly as Israel.
When The Patient Cannot Say Yes: The Next Frontier Of Euthanasia
For years, euthanasia and assisted suicide have been defended around one overriding principle: choice.
A competent adult suffering from an incurable condition should be permitted, advocates argued, to decide when his or her suffering has become unbearable. Whether one agreed with that argument or not, personal autonomy was placed at the center of the debate.
But what happens when the patient never asks to die?
What happens when the patient cannot understand death, cannot request death and cannot possibly consent to it?
That question is no longer hypothetical.
In the Netherlands, physicians can intentionally terminate the life of a newborn infant under narrowly defined circumstances. Dutch government guidelines state that the baby’s suffering must be considered “unbearable” with no prospect of improvement, the diagnosis and prognosis must be certain, the parents must consent, and an independent physician must examine the child.
The Netherlands has gone further still. A separate framework allows doctors to terminate the lives of terminally ill children between the ages of 1 and 12 when they are determined to be suffering unbearably without prospect of improvement and no reasonable alternative exists to relieve that suffering. Parents participate in the decision, and the child is consulted when possible.
This is an extraordinary transformation of the original argument for assisted death.
The question is no longer simply whether someone has a “right to die.”
It is whether someone else has the right to decide that you should die.
And now that same question has surfaced in Canada.
From Canada To The Netherlands
In October 2022, Dr. Louis Roy appeared before Canada’s Special Joint Committee on Medical Assistance in Dying representing the Collège des médecins du Québec, Quebec’s professional medical regulator.
Roy told lawmakers that the organization had considered extending medical assistance in dying to babies from birth to one year old in cases involving extremely serious medical conditions and virtually no chance of survival.
The Collège subsequently clarified its position before the same parliamentary committee.
Its representative said the organization believed MAID for infants could represent “a responsible ethical solution” in cases involving an unavoidable end of life under unbearable circumstances. Its earlier report had contemplated cases involving serious malformations or syndromes with no prospect of relief or survival.
The organization emphasized that it was not proposing killing babies without parental consent and described the idea as an avenue to be explored.
The fact that one of Canada’s major medical regulators has publicly entertained this possibility should make Canadians ask where the boundaries of assisted death ultimately lie.
Because Canada has already moved those boundaries before.
Canada’s Rapidly Expanding MAID System
When Canada legalized MAID in 2016, the law required, among other things, that an eligible person’s natural death be reasonably foreseeable.
That requirement is gone.
In 2021, Parliament expanded eligibility to people whose natural death is not reasonably foreseeable, creating what is now known as “Track 2” MAID. A person therefore does not need to have a terminal condition to qualify under Canada’s current system.
The numbers have risen dramatically.
Health Canada’s latest annual report records 16,499 MAID deaths in 2024. That represented approximately 5.1 percent of all deaths in Canada—roughly one out of every 20.
And another major expansion remains scheduled.
People whose sole underlying medical condition is mental illness are currently excluded from MAID, but that exclusion is set to expire on March 17, 2027 unless Parliament changes the law again.
Terminal illness was once presented as a boundary.
Then it wasn’t.
Reasonably foreseeable death was a boundary.
Then it wasn’t.
Mental illness alone is currently a boundary.
Under existing law, that boundary is scheduled to disappear.
And now Canadian physicians have openly discussed another boundary: infancy.
When Consent Disappears
This is where the debate changes fundamentally.
An adult requesting MAID can articulate his wishes. A newborn cannot.
The infant cannot evaluate treatment alternatives. The infant cannot understand a prognosis. The infant cannot determine that suffering is intolerable. And the infant cannot say, “I want to die.”
Other people must make that determination.
The Dutch system acknowledges this reality by requiring parental consent and independent medical review. But those safeguards do not change the underlying ethical transformation.
Death is no longer being provided because the patient autonomously requested it.
Death is being chosen for the patient.
That should force society to confront a question much larger than euthanasia itself: Who gets to determine when another person’s life contains too much suffering to continue?
The answer becomes especially consequential when disability enters the discussion.
Human beings are notoriously poor at predicting what another person’s life will ultimately be worth. Medical prognoses can be wrong. Treatments improve. Families adapt. People born with severe disabilities can experience love, relationships, joy and meaning that cannot be calculated from a hospital room shortly after birth.
There will certainly be tragic cases in which doctors know an infant has only hours or days to live. Modern medicine already has an answer for those circumstances: aggressive pain management, palliative care, comfort and allowing natural death when further treatment is futile.
There is a profound difference between allowing someone who cannot be saved to die and intentionally causing that person’s death.
Once medicine crosses that boundary, the doctor’s role changes with it.
